United We Stand, Divided We Fall

A community moves and changes, it has prominent bloggers, less active writers, frequent readers and anonymous commentators. Altogether we make up this “fellowship” of fans. We all have our interpretations and ideas. But the thing that binds us together is the fact that we all share an admiration for one person. We can niggle with each others’ interpretations of him, we can take issue with some perceptions or even just think that noone “gets him” like we do. But at the bottom of it all is that we enjoy the art of one person. Can we concentrate on what unites us, rather than what separates us?

I am not for hiding wrongs under the carpet. And I think the threat that I have seen yesterday is wrong. Very wrong. I trust that what is right and what is good will always come out top. But if we do not stand united – and I mean *all* – then we will all fall divided.

Come on, we can do it! We all have a talent for intelligence!

  1. Real life kicked in recently so I was not able to be as up-to-date with what’s going on as usual. When catching up on stuff that had been posted during the last few days I could only shake my head in disbelief. Small wonder people are looking down their nose on fangirls (or mostly fan(grand)mamas in our case) and call them hormonal loonies. Or worse. I seldom came across such immature behaviour. But I do hope this is part of ebb and flow and only represents a very small fraction of the otherwise lovely bunch of people in the RAfandom.

  2. Apparently I am very uninformed. I follow my favorite blogs and people and have missed it all. I feel a somewhat out of the loop but a little relieved I have missed the negativity.

Guylty, again I want to thank you for all of your work making Valentine’s Day so special.

And I too want to thank Guylty for working to put people together to create beautiful things for and about each other

  3. I share your sentiment completely 😎 we may not always get along, some of us may not even like each other all that much, but we are a collective “we”. Live together, Die alone; I want this fandom to live 🙂

  4. I almost died when I saw the ‘threat’ post … I re-read it a couple of times because it couldn’t possibly be real. When it became clear that it was real I felt sick to my stomach. It was a nasty piece of extortion and censorship! You have said it well Guylty – let’s concentrate on what unites us and leave go of the differences.

    • Ping me on FB and tell me what’s going on. (Can’t get to tumblr) or PM me at DF…

now I’m going to die of curiosity and I’m in the mood to get really righteous. Maybe it will clean out my sinuses…

  5. I’ve completely missed this too – perhaps just as well, but I’m curious to know what has caused the latest storm? I do think it’s sad when people can’t just live and let live.

  6. From Richard’s last message : “I am very proud to have such a dedicated community of “well wishers”. Proud because of the dignity and decency with which you communicate with each other and document your ideas. It’s always illuminated with positivity and support for each other, unlikely friendships forged through a common interest. That makes me proud, and brings me to my real reason for the message”.
I think there is nothing else to add…

  7. Having been off of Twitter for a day or two, I don’t know what the “threat” was or to whom it was made or who made it, but something like that is just unacceptable.

  8. I have also been out of the loop for a while, but what little I have gathered by now (aft of Feb 17) stinks! Granted I haven’t looked too far back, but I know of NO reason for this blogger to be smeared: frankly, it has done nothing but increase my admiration & sympathy for an intelligent, perceptive, frank adult! As for the individual who started this: MAYBE this was actually as good impulse gone wrong, but if it wasn’t, this person is just another in a long line of bullies trying to “be somebody” by tearing someone else down with attacks that are half-truths, fears about what ‘could’ happen’, and about entirely different people! We are each responsible for our choices read (or not), to use safely & wisely (or adventurously), to care for the vulnerable, to be kind, rude, brave, self-righteousness or anything else we do or don’t do. None of us are perfect or is likely to become so, but we EACH should be (at least) trying to make ourselves a little bit better every day. AFTER you attain personal perfection, you get to fix everyone else, NOT before…. (just think of all the mistakes you’ll avoid by being perfect….)

  9. Well said, Verbosa. I’ve seen some of the stuff now and it’s ludicrous. I don’t know who’s making the threat but they should just grow up. And listen to Richard about being nice to one another. For goodness sake!

  13. Well… I’d care about f@#$ing Richard Armitage, if we were using that as a verb… 😉 Sorry. I had to.

I agree with all the comments above. We are a clever, funny, generous community and we can do better than this; and I think we *do* better than this. Clearly this person is not a member of *our* community, or at least of our little corner of it. It’s sad that the intersection of Crazy and WTF has reached out to poke our friends, and even sadder that we’re not in physical distance to rally ’round with tea and coffee cake. Because I, for one, would love some big squishy RAhugs and coffee cake. But hopefully as time goes on, these people will self-destruct under the weight of their own nutterness and go. the Sam Hill. away.

In the meantime, we love you, O Other Bloggers Of Our Circle. We embrace, erm, us. Ourselves? How onanistic. snort Dangit!! (stomp) Screw the high-falutin’ language. I love you guys. I’m 100% behind any one of my friends and if any of you need a character reference for not being nuts, or for being nuts in a Good Way, I will be glad to write you one.

Although I may not be the girl you want on that job (see above). 😉 xoxoxo

  14. I also do not know what that threat was about. All I know is that sites like this lift the spirits. Not only because they are all about Richard Armitage, but also because they are about camaraderie and love. And when there is a stray element such as a threat, then there is clearly something pathetically damaged about the person who made the threat. I know that there are trolls on the internet that deliberately post comments that provoke anger. These trolls belong in a mental institution.
