😀 There, I bet I have your attention now

As promised yesterday, here is the post announcing my giveaway in honour of M___ of Night Flight Comics. Since she has been sending me lots of Hobbit goodies – and since the world of fantasy seems to be one of the main themes in comic book land – it is only fitting that I produced the first ever Thorin RAPS for this occasion. Here it he is:

RA shrine (6 of 34)

Who can resist those eyes??? I had to employ Thorin himself for the sake of this shoot. I tell you, I was hypnotized, looking through the viewfinder… *fans herself*

RA shrine (7 of 34)

And there he is, the magnificent king, knee-deep in preciousssss jewels, in front of his map. It’s a little bit worse for wear use, but his path is clear.

RA shrine (10 of 34)

Is it a path to madness? The greed seems to have already taken hold of him – he has grown tresses of diamonds and pearls. (I just couldn’t resist using that bit of embellishments – it looked as if it was made for Thorin’s head…).

So here is the shrine in full working, drool and admiration mode:

RA shrine (16 of 34)

And once again for a better view of the details:

RA shrine (8 of 34)

Those eyes are driving me insane… Stawwwwp, Thorin, stawwwp!

Right. Would you like to be the owner of the shrine? Well, you can be. It’s ready and waiting to be shipped anywhere in the world. To take part in the giveaway, simply leave a comment below to let me know you covet the king. I will make this a quick give-away because if I leave him with me longer, it will get ever more difficult to let him go and honour my promise to pass him on and give you 48 hours from now. So leave your comments until Wednesday, 16th March Edit: April April APRIL, 2014, 9am GMT. The winner will be picked – as usual – with the help of RandomPicker. Guylty wishes good luck!

PS: My weekend was fruitful. Six shrines in total – two more Thorins, a Ricky, a Porter and a Standring. Coming soon. Here’s a sneak peek of more Thorin goodness:

008Sorry, not showing the full glory yet… I can only say they both look completely different from the giveaway shrine.

  1. Could I save my King from the dragon sickness? I do not know. Could I save him from mortal woulnds at BoFA? I do not know. But I would never cease to fight for him and with him to help him back to himself – strong, quick, and battle ready. I would guard his mind and his back. I would provide him with harsh truths and soft comfort.

You are spreading such happiness with your shrines – not only to the lucky recipients but to everyone who sees them and gets a giggle out of them. Your hubby did a pretty cool thing for women all over the world when he made your Christmas shrine for you!

    • 🙂 Yeah, my hubs has inadvertantly spawned quite a bit of RAlove, hasn’t he? A virgin birth of another kind, so to speak. I have actually told him that his original shrine has made waves. He just knowingly smiled at me and ventured no comment 😀 Hubsie knows that I make pocket shrines, but I have never shown them to him. I don’t really think he’d be mad (or think *me* mad). He is creative himself, so I think he would be glad I am finding a creative outlet. And he’d feel reassured by the fact that I have kept none of the shrines for myself 😉
I like your pledge of loyalty in your comment, Jolly. The shrine is a substitute, just like any altar is, for those we direct our thoughts to. I hope you’ll say what you have written there to your RL love ❤

      • Yeah, Hubby knows exactly where he ranks in my heart and in my life. It’s why he jokes about getting one of RA’s hair cuts every time he goes to the barber. He’s been threatening to buy leather pants and a poet shirt too. It’s when he scoops me into a ridiculous hug under the pretence of his need to take back Erebor that I really laugh … mostly because he then calls me Erebor for the rest of the day/night. When our teenage sons are rotten he tells them their step father will throw them in Vaisey/Thranduil’s prison if they don’t smarten up. When our eldest sees RA on the tube he rolls his eyes and says “are you gawking at your boyfriend AGAIN?” They can all laugh at it and tease because they know who is first in my heart. Hubby is one I could follow – one I could (and do) call king 🙂

        • Ahahahaha, love it, you’re hubs ribbing you and giving you Thorin hugs and calling you Erebor… that’s quite sexy 😀 Oh, and I am the butt of my teenage son’s jokes, too, of course. I actually quite enjoy that, but psssst. 😉

  2. Fantastic job, guylty! 😀
The King needed a proper (well 2 or 3) place in your collection of shrines. Thank you for your time and fantasy used in these creations!

    • You’re in! Thorin is proving very fantasy-compatible. Eh, that kind of rings like a truism. He *is* a fantasy chaRActer. But it was really easy to come up with three different shrine versions for him, one after the other. Other chaRActers, OTOH, are proving really elusive. Lucas North has me seriously scratching my head. Weird, as he is the most visible of chaRActers due to his three year headlining run in Spooks…

Guylty, it’s beautiful. The jewels suit him so well, especially the ones in his hair. They get my imagination going…

        • Thorin travels anywhere to be with his treasure :-D.
Glad you like my slightly OTT jewelery decoration. It came off a tin that Katia made for me, and I had been wracking my brain how to use it. And then it was just perfect for the shape and flow of Thorin’s hair… Wouldn’t you just love to put your hands in that mane and pick off the jewels, bit by bit, carefully laying them aside, preparing the hot king for his bed *ahem*…

          • Actually, at the divorce, Peckerhead asked for it back and i told him I had chucked it in the river. Truth is, it is in my son’s dresser drawer – I gave it to him to use as exchange or at least a down payment on a wedding ring when he marries. although, if I asked for it back, I don’t think he’ll mind. I gave it to him on his 21st bday – and he was … shocked for some reason.

            Like

            • Practical thinking. And I can’t believe your ex asked for it back. What an … !!!
Not surprised that your son was a little bit shocked. Wedding rings are made out to be so precious, at least in terms of sentimental value. (I am glad I don’t have one. I never wanted one, either…)

              • Guylty,

I hope my saying the pocket shrine is hilarious takes nothing away from your artistry. I echo the sentiments of others about that! Really well done. Plus, it just looks like it was fun to do.

                Like

              • I always told him when he reached 21, it was his. I don’t think he believed me.

As for my ex – a year after we divorced, he demanded a blood test to PROVE Spawn was his and went as far to tell the judge that he was so positive the test s would come back that he was NOT his that he wanted me to return ALL the child support he had paid, ALL of the medical bills he had paid, ALL of the medical bills he paid when I had Spawn and my share of the bills he paid when I was out on maternity leave. The judge just stared at him – you are joking, right? And then he lit into him. Seems Spawn looks like me. It was VERY obvious when he was younger. Of course NOW Spawn is built like the Sperm Donor, walks like him and when he gets mad and huffs off…. oh Peckerhead Jr. But it doesn’t matter, it’s past. He missed the greatest kid growing up. (His parental rights were revoked when Spawn was 3. If I ever remarried, my new husband would have been able to adopt him, no problem.)

Oh – I’m on a tear. You will probably be seeing stuff by the weekend.

Yes I’m writing. the muse is very chatty now that I’ve finished Thorin and he’s throwing in wenches… er… wrenches…

Losing Gin updates on Wednesday. There are currently 2 parts (prologue and chapter 1) and the next chapter goes up tomorrow. It’s at the usual suspect places – DF, RASF, ffnet, wattpad, Ao3, Open Scrolls… I no longer update at OEAM. (that would be the nasty ‘I showed my ass’ rant I posted 2 weeks ago.) There is graphic art that has been done for this and its post at DF, RASF, and A03.

  4. I love the artistic touches in this one! the way the map is folded, the jewels at the bottom, and especially the jewels on half of Thorin’s head to show how the dragon-sickness is starting to take over. since it was Thorin who pulled me into this whole RA world, I have a special place in my heart reserved just for him 😎

    Like

    • Glad you have noticed the folded map – it’s my favourite part of the shrine, printed on off-white paper and custom scorched and smudged. The swirls of the embellishments were slightly evil, I felt, so they really push that interpretation of dragon sickness.
Thorin as a gateway – good enough reason to be in the draw. You’re in, of course! 🙂

    • I have to own up that the belt buckle on the lid was not done by me.
And wading through the jewels: As usual improvisation proves to be a winner. I had to disguise the side of the tin. I threw on a handful of pearls and silver beads and voilá 🙂 Your bag of Indian beads might come in useful for that, too, Helen!
      Hehe, you’re in.

Have to come up with an L or M word to fit this. : D Anyway, I noticed your post says March 16th as deadline and wondered if I was drunk. I assume it means this Wednesday, April 16th. Yes, my anal-retentive self is in charge today.

BTW, when I first started mobile blogging, I did hate it. Now I do it about half the time. Occasionally it’s a bitch.

  11. Oops, my reply went to the wrong comment, but now that I’ve screwed it up, I might as well go for broke.

I also don’t have a wedding ring. Oh, I have one and an engagement ring too, but I have not worn them for most of my marriage, and I asked SO not to buy them for me before we were married. He did it anyway because he didn’t believe me. Now he does.

    Like

    • *kheehee* – and I was wondering why you wrote that comment there ;-).
Yeah, wedding rings… well, I suppose they are an anachronistic relict from the times when women needed a material back-up plan in case things didn’t work out… (Actually, many still do 😦 ) I never had a wedding ring, I never exchanged rings. I am married though. (At least I signed some sort of paper, if I remember correctly. My memory is hazy. I was heavily pregnant at the time. 5 days before our son was born *ggg*)
And despite my own unromantic approach I think it sounds really nice that your husband insisted on buying a ring.

  12. i##################### I am in awe of the Shrine and of course the King. It was amazing in full size but the portable version has managed to keep it all intact and what a joy to have something that can be carried anywhere and placed for total satisfaction. The upcoming items are tantalizing as well.

    • Cheers Peggy 🙂 Yes, Mr Guylty has totally kicked off an avalanche. I still laugh when I look at that Original Shrine. It occasionally gets added to (placed my new Hobbit badge courtesy of Night Flight Comics in it today; Thorin badge is currently on my fleece cardigan, worn every day :-D).
And yes, you totally got it. The pocket shrines are about having a handy little drooling aid at hand *at all times*. They are no bigger than a cigarette case/mint tin, so fit in the purse or pocket.
I sent off a shrine today to Germany. As soon as it reaches its destination, I’ll disclose it here. Another one to go out tomorrow. Still leaves four shrines to find good homes :-D.
