RA Pocket Shrine 22/? – Elucasive North

Lucas North lives! Well, in our imagination. I have had word today that two of my shrines have reached their destination. Among them the elusive Lucas North. He successfully eluded my attempts at enshrining him again for so long, but eventually I managed to pin him down. It was a hard battle of wills, but I finally found an angle on him. He was a long-due present for UtePirat – she who kicked off the shrining frenzy with a parcel waaaayyyy back in March!

IMG_7212Oh how we would love to fix him…

After Alyssa’s justified comment that she couldn’t bear the thought of confining him to a small box, I felt very bad, indeed, but I decided to give him a bit of assistance with the nightmares, caused by water… can you spot it?

IMG_7211

Dear Lucas, a hero, haunted by the past, and forsaken by his protector. The pain behind those eyes is almost tangible.

IMG_7210

Let’s give some warmth and hope – he’s not just back, he’s home.

A bit morose for a fandom love project? Well, he’s a companion piece to Ute’s Power Porter, so hopefully the MI-6 man can share some of his extra with his MI-5 colleague…

There is another Lucas North -fan out there who has been patiently waiting for a looong time to get a Lucas North RAPS of her own. Helen has been extraordinarily supportive already, sending me several (!) parcels with extra tins, crafting beads and her beautiful handmade jewellery. She has been nonsensically babbling in the comments about “having to build up credit” with me. I have no idea what for – I am so deeply indebted to her, I almost feel like John Porter himself… (cf. SB Episode 4) *ggg*. No worries, Helen, my punch is non-existent. But I do have a killer charm! And today she’s done it again. As a back story you must know that I am a notorious dispenser of unsolicited advice and ideas. Helen has patiently endured my brilliant ignorant suggestions – and even put them into practice. I unwrapped her parcel…

Helens parcel

… which not only contained more sparkly crafting material and tins, *and* three gorgeous beads for the choker she gifted me in March, but also three handfuls of glass raindrops that she had made because I had whined about the bare display of branches above my fireplace… You can see them here in the photo.

Helen (4)

I spent my lunch time attaching them to aforementioned branches, and I am currently waiting for some sunshine to properly photograph them in situ and show them off.

So once again a massive thank you to Helen, and all my lovely fellow fans – your kindness is amazing! This fandom keeps on giving. And I am planning on bringing more such fandom love stories to your attention this week, because there is more to record and document that I haven’t yet touched on, and more community spirit to reinforce. Some really cool suggestions have been made, and I need your advice on some shrining issues, too.

  2. Oh so very very loverly!!! Although I have NOT seen Spooks, I know Lucas is just as damaged as my darling, so I think I most likely have a soft spot for him already!

    • Yes, damaged. But without a shadow of anything but heroic, decent behaviour. (Deliberately ignoring season 9 here… you’ll see, if and when you ever catch up on this…) Not quite the delicious bad boy that Guy is…

      • I’ve heard that Season 9 was to be avoided like the plague. It’s part of the reason why I”m avoiding the entire thing. Must. write. Fanfic. To.Fix….

Yes. Guy is totally edible. 😀

        • Oh, you have carte blanche from me to avoid season 9. And to continue writing the hero Lucas North is. I actually can’t wait to draw you over to the dark side of Spooks (if only it didn’t mean you finishing Manna 😦 What a price to pay…)

          Like

          • Oh I MUST finish Manna! I have NOT had a fic blow through me like this in ages. Maybe… 2 others. My first one (225K words in 10 months) and then Love Rohirrim Style – 45K in 5 weeks. Right now, Manna is writing itself. I’m just the secretary to type it out – although this chapter will go through the fire and through the fire over and over until I get it right. You can probably imagine WHY it’s going to be a bear. So NO other Richard roles UNTIL Manna is finished.

            • I really, really admire your discipline – both in terms of writing, as well as in staying away from other chaRActers. I know I am weak – I just can’t 😀

              • I don’t have a choice. I have 2 fics that are sitting on the backburner – a Doom fic I’ve not updated in a year and a LOTR/HP crossoverr that I’ve not updated in 2 years – and I’ve been working on it since 2003??? 2002??? I forget… and it’s HUGE… And sooo close to the end. It’s not abandoned – just the Muse went into the dungeon and locked the door.

                Must. Go. Knit.

                • I can see that you have learnt (from past mistakes *ggg*). You are staying away from new distractions in order to finish what you are doing. Good plan. (And good thing that I am not into LOTR/HP or Doom :-D)

    • RIght now, I’m avoiding it, not because I don’t want to watch but because the writer in me wants to FIX everybody…

      I mean… please… I found a loophole to keep Severus Snape alive…a believable loop hole…

I have enough on my plate right now. My Guy fic is tearing me to pieces….

  3. Mmm, lovely Lucas 🙂 Love the tiny umbrella! 😀 Aw, thanks for the sweet comments, Guylty. You’re the only person in this fandom who doesn’t truly understand the power of your RAPS, and therefore my need for credit… Yes, looking forward to my Lucas (could that be the other one that’s finished, I wonder…) but then there’s Ricky calling out to me. Not to mention that new chaRActer photoshoot RLRA… 😀 Greedy, moi? 😉

    • *kheehee* the creative nuts and bolts immediately start turning. But no no no, must finish that Lucas North RAPS first… can’t get distracted again. You very high in credit here, so no worries 🙂
And all the thanks to you! Amazing gifts – still can’t take my eyes off my drawing room wall!
As for the power of the RAPS – ha, you could be right! I have seen behind the scenes of the RAPS – demystified 😀

  4. Raindrops not falling on his head. Great to see Lucas with protection from the elements with some humor thrown in. No season nine, ever. I never will go there, no matter what. Latest shrine is fabulous, as always.

  5. Oh dear, a shrine that breaks my heart. I’ll never forgive RA for the amount of pain he poured into Lucas…
But… zeesmuse… Fixing Lucas?! Please make Spooks next on your wacthlist!
    /and a LOTR/HP crossover?! Get writing, young lady!!/

    • He really played him so well, didn’t he? Particularly in seasons 7 and 9. You are so right, I can not ever forgive him for that last scene. Gee, it still touches me, whenever I think of it. He did that so convincingly.
I hope Zee sees this and pastes a link to her fic in here 😀

      • Too well! Eyes, face, posture all speak of strength on the surface that conceals pain just underneath. Fragile beauty that you can’t take your eyes off, even if it hurts to look at him. *lucased*
But S09 gives so much opportunity for fixing, not to mention a certain love story…

      • The crossover fic is the sequel to my VERY first fic, which was a LOTR fic (and my ONLY Elf fic… wait, I had 2 others but they were one shots…) I’m in the process of cleaning the first one up…and then… hoping reposting the cross over will give me some sort of focus… I dunno. Ping me privately and I’ll give you the links. Personally, I think the original fic is my weakest and people either love it or hate it – no middle ground.

  6. Lucas is very well embedded in my trouser pocket, looking at him gave me the strength to make not a fool out of me (you know about it), and as I carry most of the time an umbrella with me we both are very well double protected. Together with Porter nothing could get wrong anymore 🙂

    • Thank you for looking after Lucas so well – he’ll never get wet (unexpectedly) again 🙂
And yes, what a protection team you have now… Doubly safe. Great to know that one of them is actually with you!!!

  7. N like nice as usual. Love the umbrella. “So British” LOL. I love Lucas North and everytime I see the last episode (yes because I look at it). I cry and I promise to myself to not see it again but after a few weeks I do it again. This is called “RAddiction”.
And these glass raindrops (falling on RA’s head may be) are just extraordinary.

    • Ha, you are definitely RAddicted if you can put yourself through *that* season. It just annoys me so much, I avoid it and veeeeery rarely veer into season 9. Pictures are fine, though 😀
The glass drops a lovely – still waiting for a bright day here to photograph them, though.

  8. Is it just me, or does Mr. A specifically choose parts where his character dies? Lucas North, Sir Guy, Porter (I keep hoping he really isn’t) and I cannot name everything because I have not seen them all. Oh and Clarissa: Portrait of a Young Lady? I know it is only audio, you cannot see the pain he is in and he plays a despicable character, but the death scene was still so tragic. Also, I want to slap (not that I ever would, but I so want to) one of my staff every time I am helping customers with film related books, pins, magnets, PoPs etc., and we start to digress in observation of a certain someone’s princely portrayal in these films, he (my co-worker) says, with extra snark, “…going to be so sad when he dies in the end” in reference to… dare I speak of it? I am dreading it already. Ugh, the drama in these various roles is like another knife twist in my angst-wounded heart. Can someone suggest a comedy please?

    Like

    • Maybe he only gets *offered* parts where he dies. And parts where his name is John *LOL*.
I am with you on dreading part 3. I already hated the book in that respect. And frankly, I thought that dramatically that was a mistake. Ok, Thorin turns greedy and mad at the end, but to kill him off (and his innocent nephews) just looked like author’s revenge to me. *huffs* But hey, who knows? PJ is pretty ruthless when it comes to his adaptations. Maybe he’ll have a surprise for us in store?

      Like

      • Sadly, one of the actors who played one of the dwarves – I forget which one – has said the filming of Kili’s death made him cry. As much as PJ is known to alter things, or leave things out… I think he’s going to remain true to this…

      • I’m in constant hope for Galadriel and Gandalf to save them. (sigh) Maybe I should start listening to Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings to desensitize myself by then. (Probably won’t work though.) Here is a link to a YouTube of Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings:

PS: My favourite ever piano concert: Rachmaninov’s “Variations on a Theme by Paganini”. Unfortunately does not fit the sombre mood of the pieces quoted so far. But is the most gorgeous, passionate music I can think of.

          • (sigh) Gorgeous music…oh and here is another one by Ludwig Van Beethoven that made me want to cry, oh, I think I actually did, (hubs says it gives him a period, so it might not be the same for everyone) for Anne Elliott when they played it in Persuasion with Rupert Penry-Jones and Sally Hawkins. Piano Sonata #14 in C Sharp (another smart-ass comment by hubs is, “why didn’t these guys name their songs?)

                • I taught beginning strings one year during my teaching career – I had to sell both of my cellos and my violin 2 years ago, trying to make ends meet. Will NOT sell my piano (that’s my instrument!)

                  Like

                    • I sucked at cello. I played a three quarter which has a really tinny sound. My students made fun of me actually – they taught me to play. But by the end of my year there, I could tune and do some repairs – replacing string and posts.

I sat down at a piano a few months ago… and cried. My fingers didn’t know what to do. I’m horribly out of practice. I am desperate for a job so I can get my piano nad music out of storage and sit down and just open SOMETHING on the scroll that will make me fall to my knees and find God. The yearning to play in the last year has never been so strong – not since I graduated college in 1997.

  9. Not to change the emo sub, but I would like to take a moment to compliment Guylty on the rich, crisp photographs you shoot of your tiny RAPS. Lighting, composition, of course interesting subject matter goes without saying. It cannot be easy, but you are making it look that way in my opinion. I’m always taking snaps with my cell or iPad and find it difficult to avoid glare, reflection or angle. While I would never presume to suggest what you do is easy, it does impress me to see your various shots, from various endlessly interesting angles. So, uh, yeah, thanks for the added goodness you bring to my RAlove-life.

    Like

    • Oh, that is a compliment that is going straight to my photographer’s ego!!! Puffed out chest for the rest of the day. – I am very pleased you have noticed that. I do try to set the RAPS into scene nicely – with appropriate background, deciding which aperture is best (do I want everything in focus? Is there a domestic scene of slobby mess in the background that better be blurred out?) and which angle avoids unsightly reflections. Even though I always say that it doesn’t matter what camera you use, I must admit that it helps when you have a dSLR at your disposal. Big images – which means you can crop things down and still have a large enough image for the blog, and usually great focus (although I need to have my camera checked – there is something wrong with my focus, it often is blurry, and not due to camera shake). Most of the images of your presents and packages are taken with my iPhone, and you can see the difference – slightly blurry etc. It is a great tool to have at my disposal and I love it dearly, but it does not give best results. Tablet cameras are even worse, because the device is so heavy and unwieldy that it becomes near impossible to hold the camera steady and get a clear image.
Mind you – I am of course a photo nut, so I love playing around with all this, and the pleasure of photographing the finished shrine is part of the whole process for me. It is probably why I feel so happy to part with them. 🙂

      • Boy, you’re not kidding it’s hard to photograph these things. I struggled to get just a few decent shots of my RAPS for my post, and you manage it with style and seeming ease every single time. Mind you, I did use only my second best camera, but it should have been camera enough for the task at hand. Instead it was like prolonged dental work. My hat’s off to you for all of your lovely and fun RAPS pictures.

        • If I were really, really anal about this, I’d use a macro for shooting them. My lens starts at 28mm, and sometimes that is too far away, too. It’s due to the large picture file (3700×5600 px) that I can crop in closer.
