You spend your whole life as an actor waiting for that call, and then it finally comes. “There is Bollywood on the phone for you.” Yes, readers, the dream has come true, Bollywood has called. At least when it comes to his performance in a RAPS near you. I jokingly put the idea out there, months and months ago. So long ago actually, that I cannot be bothered to find and link that comment where I quipped about it. But would you believe it? Someone fell for it. I should’ve known, actually, because she who is now the owner of the Bollywood RAPS is well-known in the fandom as a professional dancer and belly dance instructor. Well, she prefers to be seen as a love-facilitator, but whatever she is and does, she is MsGigglepants aka Christine.
So, for a self-confessed lover of all things sparkly and colourful I set about designing a Bollywood shrine. Inspiration came very quickly and the RAPS was done in a matter of days – and then it languished for a looong time because Ms Gigglepants and I had a communication break-down :-D. However, with addresses finally exchanged, and packages crisscrossing the Atlantic, Bollywood RAPS is ready for the reveal.
That’s not Ms Gigglepants, holding her RAPS close and tight, but a lovely marionette that was brought back from India for me a few years ago… It had to go into my photo shoot.
An overabundance of sparklies was a must for this RAPS, as were the strong colours and a suitably turban-y image of RA. Thank Cod you can always rely on Sir Guy to provide the dramatics. Hey-ho, his little stint in Accra proved perfect.
And now for the personalised bit. MsGigglepants dances. So does RA. Supposedly he is “always the first on the dance-floor”. Yup, he said it himself. And so I looked for some evidence. Mhhhh, that Elvis pose is still quite delicious, I think. The prehistoric promo shoot for Cold Feet maybe not quite so much, but well, how *could* I *not* include that? Happy feet, indeed…
I keep saying that I want to see RA in a remake of Saturday Night Fever before he gets too old. Well, I’ve given him the sparkly, tiled dance-floor to strut his stuff and to glower at Ms Gigglepants.
There. Maybe we should send picture evidence of this to the copyright holders of Saturday Night Fever. Convincing, if you ask me. The man doesn’t need a show reel. He’s got the moves, even in stills.

*giggles* yes, but only while being off-set by the delicious Elvis pose 😀 They are just sooo bad… The only redeeming feature for me is that he looks so smiley in them, laughing and making fun of himself. (I’d love to know what he thinks of them, ten years down the road…)

Yesssss, this is a strategy of engaging him at his appearances. We can break through the robotic “oh, bless you,” “oh thank you,” I know we can. If we start showing up with really obscure photos (white kilt, anyone?), he’ll know we reeeeeally know him, and, after awhile, he might discern a pattern of “those women” with the wacky photos. Gee, they must all be talking to each other online! This isn’t random. They are organizing this!

Nee, er hat nur einmal was über Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge gesagt. Also muss er den Film kennen. Mir gefällt Kitsch in Maßen ganz gut. Zum Beispiel in den Maßen 6x4x1 in einer Blecchdose *ggg*. Schminke an Männern ist auch nicht so mein Ding, obwohl Guy ohne Guyliner undenkbar wäre.

What a great bejeweled tribute to dancinrg RA. Maybe someone will be brave ( or crazy ) enough to ask him to sign their RAPS. I can imagine a horrified, bemused or amused response, certainly not indifference. He didn’t seem to mind signing Thorin, so who will be the first to offer up a shrine to sign? He wouldn’t have to get a glimpse of what’s inside, just sign the lid. Maybe one without initials. Or a blank box, to be adorned with lovely RA bits later. Just a suggestion.

That was exactly what I was thinking, Kathy. After Pop Thorin anointed the next project would be to get a mintbox signed. Preferably a non-shrined mintbox. Everything else has the potential of being extremely embarrassing *ggg*. I know some people who are going to see the play, soon. Maybe I can bribe them… 😀

I’m loving this strategy. Suggestion: Make sure our sacrificial fan has her own paparazzo (designated photographer, preferably someone uninvolved who won’t swoon and forget to operate the camera) hovering nearby to shoot a photo of his reaction which includes the fan — who will deserve so much credit after this activity!

1.) I like the Cold Feet dancing pics, which seems to put me in the minority. I think he looks cute and boyish and like he’s having fun 🙂 2.) I’ve never understood why so many have dubbed that other pose “Elvis”, it screams “Michael Jackson” to me 3.) I really like this shrine! a perfect manifestation of the theme you were going for. very clean, symmetrical, and fun 😎

ad 2.) Whether you see Elvis or Michael Jackson depends on age and on whether you find that pose sexy at all. I’m afraid I am too young to be an Elvis contemporary or Elvis fan, but I find that pose so much sexier on Elvis than on Jackson… Go figure. (PS: I think we had that discussion way back when that Sarah Dunn image initially came out. Jackson stole the pose from Elvis though :-D)
Cold Feet dancing is involuntarily funny. I don’t look for those images, ever, but when I come across them, they make me smile. I guess that is good. And it proves again how photography is forever *ggg*.

Guylty, die Durchschnittsgröße deutscher Frauen liegt bei 171 cm, da sind wir nur ganz knapp drunter.
Ich vermute, man kommt sich schlicht kleiner vor, weil die eigene Augenhöhe ja nicht der Körperhöhe entspricht – man nimmt das Gegenüber in ganzer Höhe wahr, während man selber sich kleiner fühlt.
Außerdem nützt das alles nix, die 10 cm mehr kriegen wir so oder so nicht …

Naja, G, ich kann schon irgendwie nachvollziehen, dass du RL Richard im Schrein etwas freaky findest, aber andererseits – die Bilder, in denen RA eben den öffentlichen RA gibt, sind soooo nah am “echten” RA (wer auch immer er sein mag) eigentlich auch nicht. Aber ich verbinde auch mit “Schrein” nicht wirklich was. Mir fallen eher gewisse Gags aus irisch-deutscher Produktion ein als irgendwas Religiöses.

ALL of the singing in Bollywood films is dubbed by pros called “playback singers” (http://www.indiansingers.net/bollywoodplaybacksingers.htm), but the actors do have to do their own dancing. Some of it is pretty damned impressive, other numbers are less taxing. With his Cats background, I think he could pull off a good show. There’s also lots of posing and making sexy faces. Gee, do you think he could do that part?

Love, love, love it! Lucky MsGigglepants. This is such a fun RAPS. I think you made a great choice putting the Cold Feet pics with the Elvis pose in the middle. I think it enhances all three pics being put together like that. I always enjoy all of your little details; the sparkly tiled dance floor is awesome. I keep smiling thinking about this RAPS.
