For some reason I thought that Thorin was by far the most popular of all RAPS subjects. To me it felt as if I had enshrined the noble King more than any other chaRActer over the course of the last six months. I thought he had beaten the old favourite, Mr Thornton, and even my very own gorgeous knight, Sir Guy. Thorin on map, Thorin with crowns, Thorin mad, Thorin sexy… It was all Thorin to me. But when I did a little bit of analytics today, I realized that Thorin is *not* the “most favourite” RAPS subject at all.
In fact, there is no clear favourite. Much to my own surprise Thorin is up there with Mr Thornton and Guy at five shrines each. And – this is the biggest surprise for me, considering my great difficulties at confining the spy to a tin – with Lucas North also at five shrines.
And would you believe it? RL RA is quite a babe-magnet! My reluctance at enshrining a RL person has been ignored by me and the commissioners, because he is up there with four shrines so far. Even Porter has only three!!! And Harry was only done twice, as was as John Standring. What kind of sorcery is this? Never mind baddies Paul Andrews and John Mulligan at one shrine each, but leather-clad Northern beatnik Ricky Deeming only gets one shrine? Bizarre. (“Mix” in the pie chart refers to the First Aid RAPS that contained well-wishing from Dr Track, John Porter and Mr Thornton.)
So, in an effort to align reality with impression, I am showing you a new Thorin RAPS today. Mind you, it was not made in order to falsify some statistics. Far from it. It was another beautiful fandom love story that I was very happy to be involved in. My tumblr friend Jollytr sweetly asked me if she could commission me to make a Thorin RAPS for her tumblr buddy Shieldmaidenofscotland. Without giving away too much let me just say that Shieldmaiden needed some love right now, something that I could very well understand after my own devastating loss recently. So I gladly agreed and produced a RAPS for her with the hot needle just before I set off on my London weekend. The stars aligned nicely on this one because thanks to our poster fairy Jane I had a batch of postage money left over which I was able to put into the shipment to Shieldmaiden. (Thank you Jane!) I hope the following shrine will give Shieldmaiden the courage she needs in the coming weeks and months…
Jollytr had sent me a few pointers as to Shieldmaiden’s preferences – so Thorin and a beardy RA from Hobbit-shoot era was to be in the RAPS. I kept the lid simple. It can be made even simpler – the picture of Thorin is a magnet and can be taken off if it is too obvious.
Here is the first Thorin shrine with a reference to the third Hobbit film, BOTFA. Thorin is looking back at his Shieldmaiden, asking her to follow him, one last time… Ha. Look how she can’t wait to follow him 😀 She is practically falling over that shield… Steady on, girl!
Not sure if this really “balances” it out or merely contradicts the previous image. Beard porn ahoy! And cheeky Guylty could not resist sticking a little diamond earring onto RA. If the words bother Shieldmaiden, she can take them off the majestic nose…
Shrine in full glory. I hope it warms Shieldmaiden’s heart with its overabundance of pink sparkles, eyelash focus, nose porn and the benign smile of Mr A himself. And I hope that she will smile again, soon.

Aaaaah I love it! The placement of the scene with the shieldmaiden is very nice, very atmospheric (and I love that no matter what time period, no matter where, the disco ball seems to follow RA characters wherever they go. Somehow that fits for Richard). I hope the shrine is duly loved!

😀 The disco ball is my trademark, Katherine. It’s in every RAPS, no matter how small. I agree that it is kind of fitting for RA. It’s my reminder to him that I want to see him in a re-make of Saturday Night Fever *lol*.
And with an evocative name such as “Shieldmaiden of Scotland” the RAPS practically made itself 😀

Ah, you’re so right! RAPS has become a collective process, a way people have to send love to each other. Kudos to you for the original idea (oh, to Mr. Guylty too for the very first srhine at all!!!) and to everyone that participated to the creative process sending material and suggestions. And love of course. Because any single RAPS is an act of love. Among friends towards friends and towards RA. ❤

That’s how I like to see it as well. I am crafting in tongues, so to speak :-). The tongues of others who inspire me or who commission me or who send material. (And yes, I won’t lie – it gives me immense satisfaction that this idea has become so popular!)

Nene, also um das mal richtig zu stellen: ja ich mag Fanfiction(aktuell von Prue Batton), ABER das war nur ein cross-over. Der Sxx würde ich so öffentlich (und überhaupt) nie nimmer was wegnehmen. Hier herrscht doch der Konsens, dass schwesterlich geteilt wird. Und auf die Idee mit dem Six-Pack-Kuchen hast DU mich mit deinem Tröste-Link geführt. Da sieht man mal wozu solch schwindliges Kommentieren führt. Wie bei Stille Post. Nachher kommt noch raus, dass RA mit irgendwem auf ‘ner Parkbank sitzt oder schlimmer noch, nach Bollywood geht! Stell dir doch das mal vor. Man kann nieee vorsichtig genug sein 😎

Du hast das einfach wunderbar vertont/bereimt – ich konnte mir das alles so bildlich vorstellen (allein wie cRAmerry und Guy über einem dicken Schokokuchen liegen, die Münder verschmiert, die Augen vor Wahnsinn und Gier starr).
Oh nein, oh nein, ich lache hier lauthals (es wird schon peinlich. Vor allem das Ende. Köst-lich. So schade, dass das der englischsprachige Teil des Fandoms nicht mitkriegt!

Das meiste entsteht spontan, wenn irgendwer mir eine Vorlage liefert, nach der sich so ein paar Reime fast von selbst schreiben.

Das muss man aber erstmal können, Igelchen, also nicht so bescheiden. Mir gefällt es wunderbar, denn der Witz, den du dabei an den Tag legst, ist so wunderschön un-deutsch. Genau deswegen wäre es schön, wenn das auch die Nicht-Deutschen lesen könnten, um dem Stereotyp der humorlosen Deutschen mal etwas entgegenzusetzen. Hmph.

Das passt gut Igelchen: im 5. Quartel zweitausendümpfundümpf findet im Rhein-Main-Gebiet ein Workshop mit bewusstseinserweiternden Techniken und Erfahrungsaustausch statt inkl. Matratzenlager und einem prominenten Premuim-Deluxe-Teilnehmer . Bisherige (bestätigte und verbindliche) Teilnehmer : 4 + IHM. Das könnten wir locker mit deiner Preisverleihung kombinieren. Und wie praktisch, wenn unser Schätzgen solche Synergieeffekte nutzen kann. Wo er doch soooo gefragt ist 🙂

Oh my, this is just beautiful. I love the owner-insert element at the top! And the bottom is just… Just… Let’s say it’s very nice and leave it at that. Must be the hearts and the earring that blinded me! Love the collaboration and friendship that went into making of yet another RAPS and I hope Shieldmaiden smiles again soon. And last but not least, the stats – Thorin would be very satisfied to hear that, although hard numbers tell the truth, his majesty leaves the impression of a much bigger – ha – figure!

It’s always nice to make a RAPS for someone specific. It doesn’t always go as easy as with Shieldmaiden. Her name is just so evocative, it really lent itself for a Thorin RAPS.
Yep, Thorin is number one now. As of this post he has been enshrined six times. King of the Stats, too, as befits his majestic “figure” 😎

Your heart was open and generous from the very first moment I contacted you, eager to offer what you could to a fellow well wisher even though you must have been extraordinarily busy with life and impending travel. I was touched that you asked me for a friend, there was no way I would’ve refused it, especially as I had been given a money donation, too. I don’t even know whether we are all that remarkable? I love the way Thorin is looking over his shoulder to see if his shield maiden is following him. As if she wouldn’t. Not in this universe. And the other half of the shrine glittering with hearts and beardy RA love. Great job, as usual. I have to give you major props for the pie chart. Awesome! What a colorful, informative and interesting graphic. If you ever make an annual report for RAPSing, it should go on the front page. Or maybe share it with Thorin.

Stole the pie chart from latest meeting of RAPS Inc. marketing dept. They are currently re-evaluating their product strategy. They think they ought to diversify a bit, widen the reach. 🙂

It’s to my everlasting chagrin that I didn’t see this post until now (but then, I think there are a lot of things on the internet as well as the outer world that I’ve missed these past few months), but I’m glad I finally saw it. It’s an odd thing to have something suddenly put a goofy grin on your face at a time when the very last thing you think you will ever do again is smile, but that’s what this did. And it’s humbling to be the recipient of such love from friends and strangers alike. There are no words of gratitude that could ever be enough. ❤
