Happy Badgers

Hi, I’m back. With news. Look what I found in the waste paper basket of the international press:

Happy Badgers EnquiRA

Click article to enlarge

The International EnquiRA – in good old tabloid tradition – has got it wrong, of course. There have been other sightings of happy badgers. Barsine posted some pictures on Twitter

and Circusgifs disclosed her preferred badge position on tumblr. However, the anchoring of the badge beside a local landmark is a new thing. And the challenge is there: Send me a photo of yourself wearing the badge beside a local landmark. I’d love to make a collage of it and show the reach of the badge 😉 Either send to guylty (at) photographer (dot) net or link a picture into the comments, please.

Oh, and The International EnquiRA reported correctly that a second batch of badges has been printed and is currently on its way to RAPS Inc. HQ. If you haven’t got one but want one, pipe up. The next opportunity for a badge-outing is coming soon: The screening of The Crucible in the UK and Ireland has been announced for December 4th and 7th, Hobbit BOFA premieres following soon after.

  1. “in good old tabloid tradition” hahahaha!!!!
Anyway I swear that this week I wanted to send you one with St. Peter’s cathedral as background but as I have needed fifteen shots at home to make the pic I uploaded in Twitter, I guess I would make at least the double to send you something different from the white marble of Bernini’s columns 😀
But a challenge is a challenge, I promise to send you a couple of pics.

    • Um. I suppose the whole selfie thing is really only easy for cameraphone users. I didn’t think of that. But hey, don’t worry – I do not expect portrait quality images. Anything – even if grainy, shaken or with cut off heads – will do. It’s just a gag, really 😉

  2. cRAp? …ouch! *gg But I would definitely wear one of those too. No question. So far I am a proud owner of distRActed and I am so so so happy with it. I‘d love to give proof of the globetrotter qualities of said badges with a pic of evidence, but that is a rather challenging demand. Significant landmark? I live in the neck oft he woods and I could choose a random tree or mountain for a background. And that could be claimed being in western Siberia as well as southern Ukraine, some shabby place in Northamerica or the backyard of northern India. I will have to give it some thought. Maybe I could impress the worldwide fandom with apic of the church of St. Charles in my hometown. An(ot really) impressive building (no one ever had heard of….).
    🙂

    • The “choice words” at the end of the article refer back to the EnquiRA’s reporter 😉
As for landmark – why not any of the mountains in the background? That describes your location in the Alps well enough for me. It doesn’t have to be a recognisable place. Just evidence, that the badge has landed in many different locations.

  3. i must subscribe to the EnquiRA, they have such global coverage to envy them, not mentioning the extra erudite writers :-p
DARn! why didn’t we think of these wonderful CRAp and PRAt before! :-p the choice of the word on the elegant background :-p
Hm i need proposal for a pic, i’ll need to take it off backpack as i can hardly photograph my own back! 😉 any choice of London Landmark? and i’ll take it to Cardiff next week too, might as well doing 1 fun thing on the work trip.. I better not forget to pack the camera, just so you get some variety – grey rainy sky in London is soooo different from grey rainy sky in Wales :-p

    • The EnquiRA is widely known for its quality of reporting *coughs*. Definitely a quality newspaper…
I think if I had included cRAp or pRAt in the mix, I would’ve gotten a lot of dRAma 😉
As for London landmark? Ok, my secret wish is for badge in front of Old Vic *ggg* Now, there is a challenge for a budding photographer 😀 In the meantime, Cardiff will do.

      • wicked minds think alike!!! as i was pondering i thought oh well i’d like to do one in front of Old Vic just because :-p it will look weird with the Electra overhead but i’ll find a way, the problem will be getting a shot of the Old Vic and the badge in one pic (size, distance, grr) I’ll work on it :-p I may need to get that tripod sooner 😀

        • Well, here’s the photographer’s suggestion: If you take the selfie from that little square across the street from the OV, you can probably angle your handheld camera in such a way that it catches the OV sign on the facade while you yourself may cover the Electra sign on the porch above the entrance…

          • that’s exactly what i thought :-p and just had an idea :-p you don’t need me in the shot, just the badge and the Vic :-p Thanks for tip i now def have a few option, cross fingers for a non-rainy day! def doable but i will need the tripod so you don’t just get a blur, will email a bit later for advice 😉

            • 🙂 I wouldn’t want to force anyone to unmask themselves for my delectation. All that’s needed is the badge, preferably attached to you, and a landmark in the background. But I completely leave it up to you how intricately you want to plan and execute your shoot 😉

  4. Keine Kamera, sorry.

Übrigens: Es ist hilfreich, während der Antworten auf Interviewfragen nicht zu kauen, dann entsteht auch kein Phenomen-nom-nom-nom-non. 😉

So we are officially badgers now? 🙂 Obscura must be thrilled!
(And I too am pleased the cRAp option never came up 🙂

  6. I have plenty of choices for landmarks (at least if you are a surfer and know your breaks), but do you want this landmark to be recognizable to most people or a local landmark that comes with an explanation of where it is? I am close to some famous ones, and not so famous ones. It is easy for me to do either one. I am at your service. Maybe one of each?

  7. This is hilarious! “He’s relieved they didn’t choose gRAndpa or funeRAl for the badge, though” … or ReAr-end… ROFL!
As to a local landmark for a Badger pic… I’m going to have to think about that. If you asked the locals I’m sure it would be the football stadium, which is all-important in this town. As to world-renowned landmarks… there simply are none!

  8. Ohh, you’re wonderful Guylty, thanks for today’s laugh!
Hmmm, a picture, now you’ve got me thinking……lots of mountains, green fields and Spring gardens in bloom around here but nope, no landmarks and something that says Australia…hmm, I need to find me a ‘roo or a wombat happy enough to pose :o)

This is brilliant Guylty – thank you for the giggles. How wonderful that you’ve had such a great response that a second print run was required! I think I mentioned to you that mine is getting around pinned inside my handbag, ready to whip out the instant I think there’s a possibility of another distRActed, deRAnged or entRAnced well wisher in my vicinity. Landmark maybe coming up next week courtesy of my trip to the city to see Mathew Bourne’s Swan Lake.
I will certainly be wearing it when I see a screening of The Crucible – I think that’s going to be the most likely occasion for me. 🙂

    • I will definitely put a few more in the post for you, Mezz, so that you can pass on more badges. And great, so an Australian landmark will be on its way, soon 🙂
If it doesn’t rain today, I might try and produce a landmark picture, too…

      • Thanks heaps for that G. The girls here are very keen to have one so the extras will be much appreciated.
I don’t know if any of Melbourne’s landmarks are recognizable to anyone who hasn’t been there but I will give it a shot! 🙂

        • Good news – the new badges have just arrived this morning. They’ll be on their way to you asap!!! And hey, don’t worry about landmarks too much. It doesn’t have to be a perfect shot!!!

  10. Hilarious article though I don´t know if my new avatar will fit the idea 🙂 Do I need to wear the badge myself?
Hhmm, finding a recognizable spot in Germany´s famous (haha) town of the Grimme Preis is not that easy, and there´s no surfer dude available… What a challenge 🙂

  11. I’m continually amazed and thrilled at the creativity of this fandom. I sent you a bad photo with a 5-line e-mail, Guylty, and you turned it into this masterpiece! Yet again, Mr. A serves as the muse. As for being a badger: I’ve enjoyed being a provoker in this fandom, which would make me a badgerer, right? But I can own “badger,” too. Yup, I’ll be a badger.

    • Thanks, and yes – I totally feel “be-mused” by RA. And by the people I am a fangirl with. Is there anything better than amusing others?
Badgerer – LOL, that it’s a great coinage. Fair enough, you can definitely be badger and badgerer simultanneously. Or according to the International EnquiRA you might be a “badgeRA”?

  12. Guylty, I can’t wait to wear my badge around town and see if any eagle-eyed Richard admirer will spot me. From LA with love…ML

  13. Love my badge! I still have it on my jacket and wear it with pride. : D

And how many fangirls does it really take to make a decent selfie — laughing or not? Fangirls with longer arms than ArmitageBesotted and I have.
