*ooof*: Personal Favourites

Let’s ring out the old year with an *ooof* – neglected as they have become, not least because there are too many new images that merit a look. While my “to be *ooof*ed” folder is brim-full, I have picked the most recent image, and one from a photographer whom I haven’t honoured subjected to an *ooof* yet. Mitchell McCormack’s shoot for DaMan resulted in a number of drool-worthy images. And even if he is not Armitage’s favourite photographer – his images easily live up to the Armitagean accolades of Dunn’s imagery. Here is my chosen end-of-year offering:

Is Mr A a giant or is he continually being placed on chairs that are straight from Lilliput? Here we have RA posing on a silver chair in a studio environment. The chair is at an angle to the camera, and thus Mr A has also turned his body away from the lens and looks off-camera to the right. Assuming a slightly hunched pose, he has folded his right leg backwards while leaning forward, with his hands loosely clasped between his knees. Dressed in denim trousers, a dark jacket and a grey scarf, here is Mr A in a decidedly unsexy pose.

Previously an enthusiastic fan of all studio photography – because it demands more technical skill and creativity than location shoots imo – I have to admit I am beginning to get a bit bored by it all. I am craving context – props that evoke a story, combined with the pose and facial expression of the sitter. The white background – clean, fresh and calming as it may be – feels clinical and ultimately bland. (That is not to say that McCormack’s images are boring. There are a number of shots where he has given context to RA: lounging sexily on a sofa, showing off a ring, sitting in a studio/loft environment. ) An yet there is a reason why the studio images are ever-popular: With the lack of props, there comes a lack of distraction and subsequently a concentration on the sitter. His features, his pose, even his clothes, gain more weight in the overall composition and impact of the image. And how could that be bad when it comes to Mr A?

Once again I prefer an image where Armitage looks away. I am trying to figure out why I seem to prefer those images to ones where we get the straight look from his eyes into the camera. Are the full-on gazes too close for comfort? And for whose comfort? The longer I study Armitage in his photographs, the more I come to the conclusion that I like the veiled looks better than the full onslaught. The reason for that is that the full-on gaze is clearly a pose, offered by the sitter because he is *aware* of being photographed. The images, however, where he looks off camera, could be interpreted as incidental shots, as RL snapshots, almost, that to me appear much more *real* and life-like than those where he is consciously posing and acknowledging the photographer – and the viewers by extension. It tickles my imagination more to contemplate what is going on in the studio while Armitage is looking *away*, than when he is looking *at*. For me it carries the possibility that he was being himself (like in this)- something that he rarely looks to me when he poses deliberately (like here). This could be totally in the eye of the beholder, i.e. me, but I always seem to detect an edge of discomfort in the latter – an awkwardness in the pose, the slightest hint of insecurity in the smile, a little defensiveness in the way the shoulders are held – whereas the former seem to be more relaxed, more honest, less “acted”, simply by ignoring the camera and avoiding the conscious acknowledgement  of the “I am being photographed right now” mental trigger.

Granted, this is a posed shot, too. And RA would not have been able to ignore that he was being observed/photographed. After all he is sitting on that hard chair, in front of a white background, with lights glaring at him. But McCormack has directed him well. We get to see the hands whose veins are put into relief, and his three-quarter profile is nicely lit so that we not only get the nose in all its glory, but also a look at the elven ear and the textured stubble-cheek. Even the clothes are nicely lit – we can see some detail on the jacket, and we can make out that his trousers are made of denim. And Guylty particularly loves the fact that the shoes are worn without socks. Total trigger!!! With the light coming from above Armitage’s left shoulder, it illuminates all the important bits nicely. Beauty light at its best – softly lighting up everything that is pleasing to the eye. And where the fuzzy shadow hits, i.e. on Armitage’s right arm, leg and foot, we can rely on our brain to substitute the shadow with light. We have his lit-up left side to tell us what it must look like.

I totally love determining the technical intricacies of a photo – the type of light, the direction, the technical props used. It’s a little bit like detective work, and for me it always has the added benefit of understanding what the photographer did, and possibly copy the approach in one of my own photographs.  This kind of copying is done by photographers all the time, btw. And no, it is not plagiarism – because I can guarantee you that I would most probably not be able to recreate this particular set-up identically. One of the things I had to do for one of my photography exams in college was explaining the lighting set-ups in a photograph that was printed in our exam paper. I remember staring at the picture for minutes, trying to understand all of it – noting where the shadows were, where the light reflected, which parts of the photographed object were dark and which were illuminated, the light (or lack thereof) in the background. Immensely gratifying when you finally cop on how it must have been done.

And yet, all of that pales in comparison when you have a subject to look at that not only pleases the eye but also teases your brain. The hunched pose. The loosely folded hands. The inquisitive facial expression. The styling. It all meshes in our brains to create a picture of the man – not only the way he *looks* but the way he *is*. Interpretation, conjecture, guess-work, *of course*. But that is and remains one of the fascinating fallacies that makes both looking at RA in his photos, but also watching him in interviews or reading about him so endlessly entertaining: However much light is thrown on him, he remains a mystery. Because he is forever creating his own image himself – sometimes with the help of a photographer, sometimes with the assistance of an interviewer, and other times even on his own, when he reaches out and communicates via Twitter. In all of it, I am hugely entertained and intrigued. And even if he contradicts himself every once in a while – he remains my personal favourite.

 

He lounged in his comfy chair with his iPad and a glass of Pinot Noir. South Island, of course. Ahhh, the rich, earthy aroma of the fermented grapes spoilt his taste buds. He closed his eyes with a sigh and savoured the luxurious warmth of the wine, as a wide smile graced his stubbly cheeks. The perfect accompaniment for the task his fans had set him for New Year’s Eve: Accounting for his year. They had sent him a list of “essential questions, 2014 edition” that he was supposed to answer. As the dust settled on the closing year, he reflected on the challenges he had mastered. Three promo tours, two films, two stage productions, numerous interviews, one con, lots of photo sessions, recordings, public appearances. He had achieved a lot.

Right, let’s get to it, he thought. He reached for his wine glass again, swirled the ruby-red liquid and took an appreciative sniff before he downed a generous sip for courage. Then he opened the document on his iPad.

“Dear Richard – congratulations on 2014. As your fans we were delighted to see more of you than ever before – off and on-screen. We particularly enjoyed all the public appearances, photo shoots interviews, and tweets where you allowed us a glimpse at you, the man. However, could we please get the fundamentals right? You keep contradicting yourself in your interviews. You claim that socks and aftershave are the perfect Christmas pressies, and a week later you say there is nothing worse than receiving such. What is it then? Our essential list of questions is attached at the bottom. Please answer and tweet. And finally, please tell us the question that you were never asked in an interview but would love to hear.

With fond greetings – your fans”

Time to wrap, he thought. But one more request to fulfill. He extracted himself from his comfy chair and took his iPad to the kitchen counter. Propping up the iPad to stand in its cover, he pulled one of his silver kitchen chairs under his lush bum and plonked down. With his arm outstretched, he fumbled with the apps on his iPad. When the little red light started flashing, he pulled back his arm, and looked up at the iPad camera. Here is my question for you, friends. And I cannot give you the answer. But I hope you can? He drew an audible breath, and the slightest flicker of insecurity flashed over his stubbled face. But then he quickly added Will you follow me another year? He paused and leant forward, his hands folding between his knees. He switched on his sparkling puppy eyes from under his softly folded frown.

  9. Happy New Year Guylty ! I remember that once you said that you was “warmed by love” and it’s what happens to me tonight because it’s the 31st and I am alone (son and husband working). BUT there is your blog and I feel much better ! Of course I will follow RA another year and even another century ! as well as I will follow you because there is no place in my heart for another actor but with your blog everything is so funny and interesting (your ooofs as well as your RAPS (passed and future). I like this photo and specially the photos where we can see his hands. I love them. And about the questions-answers (very well-done) it’s true that the moment I prefer is when he is getting out of the limo in London, how I was proud of him at this special moment. All the best for you and your family and your trip in New Zealand !!!

    • Oh no, so sorry to hear you had to spend NYE on your own, Katia. Mind you – I realized last night that I have *never* in my life spent NYE entirely on my own, and I would actually like to know what that is like… It’s different though, when it is not by choice.
      Love the hand photos, too – they are always more real than the face, strangely.
      To tell you the truth, I never saw how he got out of the limo in London – I was on the wrong side of the red carpet for that. But I imagine Mr A was as graceful as could be…

  19. ‘Best taste encountered – Salted caramel’ You’re amazing Guylty! how did you know that salted caramel was actually the best new taste I encountered in 2014?? I had never tried it before because I was a bit ify as to whether I’d like it, then I saw some gourmet icecream on sale and bought it on a whim and pow! taste explosion and I’m hooked forever……………..

  20. Ah, ah what a great after-Xmas present this is! Happy New Year first of all! 🙂 And thanks for taking the time to write this, I missed them 😉 And this is the best thing to read tonight, for so many reasons.
    I loved the abundance of news and images but it was all a blur, a rush – in all its meanings. It felt like I couldn’t stop and really enjoy and now I finally can! (I’ve got a little stash of favourite photos that I put away too and hope to drag them out 1 by 1 separately and just stare at each in peace and enjoy 😉 )

    I loved this particular one as soon as I saw it too, for the exact reasons you mention! I hope it will make you smile when I tell you I stopped at the photo and just studied it for some 15 minutes before I read any further. I love the oofs both for their Hermi bits and their technical bits, it’s fascinating! So I was trying to identify the light direction, studied the shadows :-p, looks at the angle of the legs, the chair and its position and colour and size, the background and then read to see how much, if any I got right 😀 I’m so grateful for your oofs and all the things I learned and above all learned to enjoy and discovered I love!

    I like being able to see the stiches, the texture of the shawl and all the bumps and folds on his face 🙂 I couldn’t agree more with what you say! That’s why I liked it so much, because it looked like him, engaging with something, preoccupied with something and that something wasn’t producing an image for the camera, or it is very close to that. Looks almost as if he is listening to somebody and is speaking with them. Just being himself, not having turned ‘sexy’ on :-p although those hands can never be anything else but fascinating 😉 But I love the way the expression and the light show the folds, wrinkles in his face, as he is now, not a smoothed version. That face has character and it’s all mystery, I think you’re totally right, it spells interested and interesting but you can’t put your finger on anything in particular, you can’t pin it down, looking at this makes me want to listen to what he is saying next 🙂

    And the ficlet is perfect!! I nearly giggled my way out of bed… favourite premiere indeed! And I bloody bet it is bloody London! 😀 All the other answers had me in stitches too! Hashtags and selfies! 😀 (and didn’t he go ahead and produce another eye popping one in the cold of a slope! Grrrr, those eyes 😉 ) But the one that literally had me with tears of laughter is the song choice! OMG, all I can hear now in my mind is nothing’s-gonna-stop-me-nooooowww and see her…. assets… bouncing! Sheesh… 😀 The man has impeccable taste, what can we say 😉
    And need you ask me the question when I confess I was still teary eyed at the fumbling and following for another year and the end? He’s part of all of it, but you know all of this is so much more and it means a lot ❤ Going nowhere! 😉 <3<3<3

    • Thank you, Hari – for spending thoughts and time on reading and commenting. It’s very flattering for me, and I appreciate your participation <3.
      As for the image – interesting that it still provides so much to study, even though it is pared back and undistracted. But then again, that is the advantage – we can study the details. In that sense, the *ooof*s are a great opportunity to look at something in detail. (Ugh, that sounds rather presumptious and self-important…) I really should get back into regularly *ooof*ing. I just find that I am beginning to repeat myself, and I don't want to bore anyone with my posts.
      And hahaha, I am glad you appreciated my choice of music. I confess, my tongue was firmly in cheek – but in any case, there is a high chance that Mr A was bopping away to that particular song way back when… whether he was aware of the Fox'ean assets, who knows – he must have been in his early teens.
      He is much more – and I find that I am getting more and more open about saying that I am a fan of his. Because there is nothing to be embarrassed about. He is a great actor, a wonderful narrator, and simply a nice, decent fella. It doesn't hurt that he is nice to look at, too – but that would be nothing without all the other facets that make up RA. I thought that my infatuation would be done and dusted by now, but I find it has been reignited somehow. Let's see what happens in 2015.

      • same here, i felt overload in Dec and all the publicity and public persona thing felt strange and alien at some point, like it had nothing to do with the Hermi i knew over the summer, but then something like this comes along or he writes some quirky tweet or the lovely Xmas message and becomes his sort of more ‘normal’ self again.. does this mean i like his daily self more than his glamed up version? Probably 😉 I think it is more that i feel the glamed up version hides too much of the complexity of the normal self which is forever fascinating 🙂

        • I think we are all more intrigued by what might be the “real” Richard Armitage than what we get presented in glossy magazines and under the glare of flash bulbs and studio lighting. It’s so attractive because we don’t know what it exactly is 😀

    (Note to self: *Vorher* ins Wörterbuch gucken! *grummelgrummelgrummel*) 😀 😀 😀

    Danke für diese Jahresend-/Jahresanfangs-*Ooof!*. Es ist auch für mich eines der gelungensten Fotos davon – und außerdem erfreulicherweise nicht ganz so schlimm glattgebügelt. (Das schlimmste Beispiel für misslungene Nachbearbeitung ist ja noch nicht so lange her … Dunns Horrorfoto Marke “Barbie hat Ken verlassen und ist jetzt mit RA zusammen” bereitet mir immer noch Albträume. Die kleine Spitze – wenn es eine sein wollte – in Richtung SD war mir höchst willkommen, hehehehe. 😀 )

    Sind solche Stühle eigentlich Sonderanfertigungen? Die Höhe ist ja normal,, aber die Lehne und anscheinend auch die Sitzfläche verkleinert … Seltsam.

    Ich mag den dreifach grauen Schal. 🙂
    Dafür kann ich die Schuhe nicht leiden … Immerhin keine pinkfarbenen* Socken … *gg*

    Ich mag übrigens ebenfalls die Bilder, in denen er nicht geradeaus in die Kamera guckt, meistens lieber. (Natürlich gibt es Ausnahmen: Mein derzeitiger Desktop-Hintergrund guckt mir intensivst ins Gesicht.) Zum Teil aus demselben Grund wie du, zum anderen, weil ich finde, dass er eher besser aussieht, wenn nicht so frontal draufgehalten wird.

    ich wünsche dir und deiner Familie ein schönes und streitfreies 2015 mit vielen, vielen, vielen schönen Erlebnissen, seien sie in Neu-Zehland** oder Irland oder sonstwo. ❤

      Hä? Welches Barbie und Ken-Foto meinst du denn? Das, wo sich das Studio Baby an die harte Männerbrust schmiegt? Das war doch süß – wenn auch *ganz* schwere Kost für alle RA-Verehrerinnen.
      Ja, der Stuhl war seltsam. Für mich sah der aus wie ein Barhocker, dem man die Füße abgesägt hatte… Aber RA sieht irgendwie immer für alle Stühle zu klein aus. Das müsste man mal in natura überprüfen. Ich hätte da eine schöne Auswahl an Testobjekten in meinem Haus…
      Ich mag ihn auch am liebsten in Dreiviertelprofil – oder zumindest nicht mit dead pan Perspektive, sondern gesenktem Haupt. Und wenn er nicht direkt in die Kamera guckt, sondern sich abwendet, kann man schöner fantasieren, worüber er denn wohl gerade nachdenkt. Aber genau wie du sind meine Bildschirmschoner auch alles direkte Blicke. Ich führe das aber eher darauf zurück, dass das die Fotos in größter Auflösung waren, die ich finden konnte…
      Neuzehland – wunderbar. Ich könnte einen neuen Zeh gebrauchen. Die Hühneraugennarbe nervt…

      • Habe ich das nie erwähnt? Das Dunn-Pic, in dem RA so furchtbar “falsch” aussieht:

        Das sieht für mich aus, wie RA als Puppenversion aussehen würde. Hautfarbe unnatürlich, praktisch jede Linie weggezaubert … Brr! (Wahrscheinlich wollte ich es erwähnen und habe es erfolgreich verdrängt.)

        Okay, okay, ich kann Barbie verstehen, wenn sie Ken für Richard verlässt … Aber wenn er so aussieht, muss ich mir auch echt überlegen, ob ich ihn ihr neide. 😀

  26. Alles Gute für 2015 und lass dich drücken. ❤ (Bist sicher schon komplett zerquetscht 😉 )
    Sach ma, da hatter doch tatsächlich meine brennendste Frage beantwortet. Mann, bin ich froh, dass er "in echt" wenigstens nicht auf so lange Zotteln steht ;-).
    Ja, ja, das Mysterium der kleinen Stühlchen. DAS würde ich ihn gerne mal fragen: wie er das findet. Ob er überhaupt eine Meinung dazu hat? Ist ja so ein netter Kerl und setzt sich anscheinend überall hin, egal ob auf oder neben Sofas, Sessel, oder halt Küchenstühle /-hocker. Hauptsache möglichst klein, jedenfalls die Höckerchen.
    Bin ja soooo froh, dass der dusselige Hut aus dem Bild verschwunden ist. Das war doch leicht aufgesetzt. Ha, Witz komm raus…..
    Und eindreifach donnerndes Ja, ja, ja! Klar laufe ich ihm noch ein weiteres Jahr hinterher.
    Egal wie dusselig, widersprüchlich und eitel er daherkommt. Stehe total auf mir bekannte Unzulänglichkeiten 😉 Und solange es immer noch Bilder gibt, in denen er mich nicht so provozierend schmachtend anblickt (nach dem Motto: hey baby, was geht?) bin ich total versöhnt.
    Bin nach dem Schneeselfie wieder vollkommen baff, wie mich diese (vermeintlich) privaten Bilder ansprechen, ja anmachen. Ich kapiere den Mechanismus sehr wohl und erliege ihm trotzdem. Willenlos und zappelnd wie ein Käfer auf dem Rücken! Weia!
    Ich wünsche uns noch viele schöne Stunden in 2015 bei der Analyse unseres Lieblingsthemas und freue mich total auf jede neue Bildbesprechung.
    Und zum Abschluss noch einen höchstpersönlichen Konjunktiv für dich: Möge deine Kreativität dieses Jahr (noch) weiter wachsen und gedeien 😀

    • Hey, eine Umarmung geht immer noch rein 😀 Ich nehme alle. Und drücke zurück!
      Freut mich, dass alle deine brennenden Fragen geklärt werden konnten. Nur das mit den Stühlchen wissen wir noch nicht. Das wäre dann mal was für das nächste Twitter Q&A – sicher brennt er selbst darauf, dieses kontroverse Thema einmal anzuschneiden. Vielleicht hat er ja auch einen Lieblingsstuhl – oder er liebt Dunn so sehr, weil sie ihm eher Kisten und Leitern hinstellt, als so alberne Kindersesselchen. 😀
      Der leicht aufgesetzte Hut *gröhl* – in der Tat. Völlig bescheuert, so was. Fand ich schon bei Hassler komplett beknackt. Ich mein, Props sind ja schön. Ich nenne da nur mal die fizzeligen kleinen Knöpfchen am Smokinghemd im Mezibov Video, aber so’n Opa-Hut? Da fehlt dann nur noch die behäkelte Klorolle auf der Hutablage hinten im BMW… (Na, das wäre dann wohl mal was für ein *ooof*let, wenn ich ein paar Aggressionen loswerden muss. Notiert.)
      Ansonsten – die Selfies kommen bei mir immer total widersprüchlich an. Das liegt weniger an ihm als an mir. Ein schöner Mann bleibt ein schöner Mann. Obwohl ich ja das letzte Selfie wirklich unvorteilhaft finde. Irgendwas ist da mit den Proportionen verrutscht. Der Unterkiefer ist irgendwie zu lang. Die Augen dafür brandheiß in ihrer arktischen Kälte. Aber was mich immer annervt, ist die Eitelkeit, die sich mir daraus aufdrängt. Und das ist eine Schwäche, für die ich sehr, sehr wenig übrig habe… Aber dennoch bleibt es so, wie du es beschrieben hast – man ist da dann doch ziemlich willenlos und kann sich nicht wehren.
      Vielen Dank für den Konjunktiv – das Jahr 2015 fängt mit einem grammatikalischen Höhepunkt an. Das lässt hoffen. Und back to you xxx

      • Wo wie alle doch grosse Anhänger von Höhepunkten sind……
        Stimmt die himmlische Visage ist ihm im Eis leicht verrutscht. Vielleicht werden die Augen schlechter und er kann das Handy nicht mehr im richtigen Abstand halten, um alles gut zu erkennen UND scharf drauf zu kriegen. Wahrscheinlich hat er dehalb den Blaufilter auf die Augen gepackt, weil die ihm zu klein ausgefallen sind. Schnell ein bisschen Farbe drauf, dann merken die Mädels nix und japsen wg. dem “Eiseffekt”. Guuuut gemacht. Insgesamt fände ich es aber wünschenswert, wenn er wieder ein wenig mehr Aufmerksamkeit auf die Proportionen verschwenden würde.

        • Ich konstatiere – der “Mädelswinkel” ist für Männer-Selfies nicht immer ideal. Was bei den Damen das Doppelkinn wegzaubert, verlängert beim Bartträger den Unterkiefer. Das hat er doch auch gar nicht nööööötig! Aber ja, die blauen Guckerchen sind schon schön. Ich vermute aber bald schon, dass er da Kontaktlinsen drauf hat… schließlich greift er ja auch gerne zu Lady A’s Gleitsichtlesebrille *kicher*. Alterserscheinungen. Da können auch brandheiße Selfies an eiskalten Pisten nichts dran ändern.

          • Bisher habe ich keine Anzeichen von Kontaktlinsen bei ihm gesehen.

            Vorsicht, jetzt wird’s sachlich: Altersweitsichtigkeit fängt durchschnittlich so um die 40 an. Sie muss aber nicht. Es gibt auch Leute, die mit 80 noch ohne Brille lesen können. (Gemein, ich weiß.)
            Selbst wenn Mr. A von altersbedingter Anpassungsschwäche der Augen betroffen ist, kommt er in den meisten Situationen problemlos ohne Nasenfahrrad aus, denn die Anpassungsschwäche betrifft die Sicht auf *nahe* Objekte.

            Sorry, dass ich euch den Tag vers**e. 😉

                • Da gibts nichts schönzutrinken. Das Grundmodell ist einmalig gutaussehend und kleinere Sünden sind vernachlässigbar! Daran ist für mich nicht zu rütteln 🙂
                  Das läuft ganz klar auf eine nicht endend wollende Obsession hinaus!

            • Also, ein Anzeichen von Kontaktlinsen ist ja, dass die Augenfarbe dadurch immer so intensiviert wird… Und angesichts der immer blauer werdenden Guckerchen habe ich da manchmal so meine Zweifel.
              Aber ansonsten hast du Recht – die Alterssichtigkeit schlägt ab 40 zu. Ich hab ja sowieso ne Brille, aber der Gedanke an eine Gleitsichtbrille ist derzeit für mich der größte Horror. Ich wehre mich, solange ich kann 😀

              • Durch Kontaktlinsen wird die Augenfarbe intensiviert? Davon habe ich bisher noch nicht gehört (außer bei gefärbten Linsen natürlich).
                Ich dachte mehr daran, dass weiche Kontaktlinsen ein wenig über den Pupillenrand hinausgehen; Gegen das Weiß des Augen kann man dann schon mal den äußersten Rand sehen – und das ist mir bei RA noch nicht aufgefallen. (Könnte aber natürlich auch sein, dass er harte Linsen trägt. Da braucht man aber mehr Eingewöhnungszeit, weshalb meistens weiche genommen werden. Und wenn das klappt, muss man ja nicht mehr rumprobieren.)

                Wenn ich ehrlich sein soll: Dank der Fältchen um Richards Augen herum frage ich mich sowieso schon länger, ob er nicht eine leichte Sehschwäche hat. Gering genug, um ohne Sehhilfe auszukommen, aber doch stark genug, um wegen häufigem Augn-Zusammenkneifen Spuren hinterlassen zu haben … Tja, who knows.

                Wenn du keine Gleitsichtbrille willst, nimm zwei oder drei Einzelstärkenbrillen, die du je nach Bedarf wechselst. (Oder Kontaktlinsen plus Lese-Brille oder so.) Das ist für viele Leute eh praktischer, z.B. weil sie viel am PC arbeiten. Eine Gleitsichtbrille hat ja einen relativ kleinen Bereich, in dem die Sicht für Entfernung X “richtig” ist, daher kann das eher zu Verspannungen führen, weil man halt immer wenigstens einigermaßen durch denselben Punkt gucken muss.

                • Sag mal, du kennst dich gut aus – ist das dein Metier? Und nein, noch brauche ich sie nicht, der Optiker war trotz meines fortgeschrittenen Alters noch mit mir zufrieden 😉
                  Und das mit dem intensiveren Blau fällt mir immer am eigenen Gatten auf. Vielleicht denke ich mir ihn aber auch nur schön 😉

              • Nee, nicht mein Metier, ich bin nur selber Brillenschlange und habe früher auch Kontaktlinsen getragen.

                Die Probleme mit Gleitsichtbrillen (deshalb müssen sich “neue” Gleitsichtbrillenträger ja auch erst mal dran gewöhnen – und manche kommen nie damit klar) und die beiden genannten Lösungen kenne ich von Freunden.

      • Puuuuuuuh! Was bin ich froh, dass du es ausgesprochen hast – das Schnee-Selfie! Verzerrt: Das Gesicht wirkt zu lang, die Nase zu groß (don’t tell Richard I said this). Falsche Kamera-Einstellung? Guylty, kann das bei einem Selfie sein?

        Eitelkeit kann ich nicht beurteilen. Zum einen fehlt mir das Fotografie-und-Nachbearbeitung-Fachwissen, was bedeutet, dass mir gar nicht so viel auffällt; zum anderen denke ich, dass RA sich ja auch präsentieren will und muss.
        Im Klartext: Ich will gar nicht spekulieren, wie viel davon persönliche Eitelkeit ist.

        Außerdem muss ich mich dann nicht über einen eingebildeten Schnösel aufregen … 😉

        • Also, Kameraeinstellungen gibt es ja bei einem iPhone nicht wirklich. Das Ding macht alles automatisch. Ich vermute ja eher, dass das an der unglücklichen Perspektive liegt, das Fotografieren von leicht schräg oben. Irgendwie sind da die Proportionen leicht verrutscht. *schauder*
          Du hast natürlich Recht – Twitter ist ein Selbstdarstellungsmittel, da darf ich hier nicht über Eitelkeit lästern. Und die konstant ekstatischen Begeisterungsstürme, die nach jedem Selfie durch die Twitter-Sphäre rauschen, geben ihm ja mit seinem Ansatz Recht. Ist höchstwahrscheinlich eine Mischung aus einem eigenen Hang zur Eitelkeit (der Mann ist schließlich Schauspieler, und ohne einen Hang zum Exhibitionismus geht das nicht) und dem Wunsch, sich selbst zu promoten.
          Nee, und für einen eingebildeten Schnösel halte ich ihn auch nicht… dazu ist er zu selbstanalytisch. Aber ich finde zu viele Selfies einfach peinlich. Nur meine persönliche Meinung…

  27. To me the best pictures are the ones that aren’t trying to be sexy in the pose or the clothes. Subtlety is sexy in and of itself. This picture looks real and unstudied even though it’s posed. I agree on the benefits of not looking into the camera. When confronted with a camera, My Guy does something I call “The Gaze.” It’s his camera face. It looks good, but you have to get past that to have a portrait rather than a standard shot.
    Looking forward to many more ooooooooofs in the New Year 🙂

    Auch ich wünsche Dir ein gutes neues Jahr. Glück, Gesundheit, Zufriedenheit und die Erfüllung Deiner Wünsche, zumindest diejenigen die erfüllbar sind.     zum selfie: ich finde er sieht sehr durchgefroren aus, wo auch immer er da ist, es ist bestimmt saukalt! Dazu passen dann auch die Eisaugen, ich warte auf das Selfie von den Ski 😉
    zum ooof, ich glaube ich bin die Einzige die den Hut mochte……und nackte Füße in Slippern mit Wintermantel? Das möchte ich mal in Realität sehen – der Mann hat nicht nur heiße Füße 😉 aber ich mag das Bild, die Farben stehen im gut und der Blick ist so unbestimmt….. neugierig, fragend?

        und sicher, wir gucken doch als erstes nur auf die Augen, mit Ausnahme von cRAmerry vielleicht, sie schaut auf die Unterarme 😉
        zu cRAmerry unten: Mit der Fototapete würde er nicht so frieren, es sei denn er hat den Kühlschrank, bzw. Tiefkühler offen gelassen um ein möglichst realistisches Bild zu erzielen, den Rotwein gönne ich ihm nach so einem Skitag, danach ist man fix und foxi und nach 2 Glas Wein reif für´s Bett – hoffentlich nicht alleine! ❤

      As for *ooof*ing a selfie – I usually wouldn’t, because they are “amateur” work and not fair to critique.         Ach ja, da war ja auch noch das Hermitage-Bild auf deiner Tasche (bzw. eins aus dieser Reihe).

        Und ich wollte garantiert noch mehr vorschlagen, die mir nicht mehr einfallen … Erinner mich Dussel daran, mir demnächst einen Vermerk zu machen oder dich gleich mit sowas zu nerven. :-/

        • Couch und Bett hatte ich auch schon auf der Liste. Eiscremebild gibt evtl nicht genug her bzw sah für mich nach Handykamera aus, aber ich merk’s mal vor. Und das Guidicini Bild bzw eines aus der Reihe muss auch sein, ja. Hatte ich sogar schon mal irgendwo angefangen und dann auf Halde gelegt. Mal rauskramen…

    Loved the answers in the ficlet- RA has indeed become the hashtag master.

    • Hehe, I think when it comes to styling, he can never win… There are bits in the styling I like (no socks), but lots I don’t like (the shoes). I prefer casual RA, much like he seems to prefer himself (“happiest in jeans and a t-shirt”).
      Glad you liked my spoof answers. Thanks to RA’s tweets we now get much more of his cheeky sense of humour and see the way his mind works.
      Thanks for staying on, Katharine – all of this is only fun because we are doing it together. I cannot imagine admiring RA without my group of like-minded well-wishing friends around me. ❤

    • Der Rutsch war ruhig und eigentlich nicht anders als andere Abende. Aber ich bin auch kein Silvester-Fan. Aber der Jahresbeginn erfüllt mich immer mit Spannung – was wohl kommen mag?
