RA Pocket Shrine 54/? – RALala

A day starts well when I wake up to the news that RA will be doing another Twitter Q&A (Thursday, April 2nd, 2pm – GMT, I suppose) – and find an e-mail in my inbox that notifies me a RAPS has reached its destination. Because that means I have the pleasure of posting a new shrine on my blog. Today’s RAPS was a commission by frequent commentator miapatagonia. Commenting here on-blog, Mia connected with fellow Californian and shrine fairy Kathy Jones. The two of them hooked up for the LA Premiere of BOTFA last year – which Kathy wrote about in a guest-post that includes a little bit of info about miapatagonia.

Anyway, miapatagonia coined the theme for her commissioned RAPS “RA in La la Land” – and stipulated an appearance of BAFTA LA RA (2013 – is it really that long ago??) in the shrine. Well, here we go:

IMG_3510That’s right, walking on the clouds, he is ready for an Oscar, while the Hollywood Hills have already switched to his name in big letters. (Look closely at that guard of honour. You might be surprised to see who has sneaked in…) He’s showered in gold-dust and…

… and the stars are at his feet. He really should have his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. Just a matter of time, maybe? In any case, on the cusp of another, very prestigious awards ceremony, I believe that RA deserves all of the awards.  Let’s hope I am clairvoyant.

There we go. I hope the RAlala RAPS fits right into Hollywood, amuses Miapatagonia every time she needs a bit of cheer – and comes timely and appropriately just before the Olivier Awards on April 12th, 2015.

PS: Special thanks go to the Irish postal service. It seems to have a direct connection to California and delivers packages expresso to the American West coast… Meanwhile, another shrine is on its way to Finland, presumably less favoured by An Post and delivered by donkey cart. Let’s hope I can present it, soon – commissioner Nokisuu has been waiting for it for eight months. Guylty! The shame! Apart from that, another RAPS is almost finished as I am working through a number of commissions that had to wait while my office/work area was occupied. But the urge to shrine is strong at the mo, as is the supply of cool tins. Happy days…

  2. I have stars in my eyes and gold is glittering everywhere like pixie dust. I am so glad the shrining bug has bitten you again. Who needs the Hollywood sign when Richard is around? Love the lurking figure among the statues and Richard floating on clouds under the California sun. Another shrine for the ages.

    • Hehe, yes, I showered him in pixie dust. Did you see the bit that settled on his chest hair *giggles like a schoolgirl*. And I just couldn’t resist putting one sprinkle of gold dust on his nose… (pre-op? more space to settle for the pixie dust *coughs*)

  5. Love the Hollywood theme, especially the transformation of the iconic sign! It reminds me of a comment made by the Long Suffering Husband who was raised rather puritanically in the Midwest. When we went out to LA (my birth city) for a visit, he marveled at the palm trees and perfect weather. He called it “Sin City.”

  8. Hat er da Goldglitter auf der Nase? So nach dem Motto “ein goldenes Näschen haben?” Was ist er nicht süß!!!
    Ja und die goldenen Männer hätte er natürlich definitiv verdient, bestimmt und spätestens für Chop, oder als Mönch mit Tonsur oder nein, nicht als blutspritzender Drache…..wir werden sehen.
    Kann mir bitte jemand mitteilen wann die Fragen auf #AskArmitag tatsächlich beantwortet werden? Habe mich heute durch Orkan, Regen, Schnee nach Süddeutschland gekämpft und von den wirklich wichtigen Dingen des Lebens nichts mitbekommen 😦

    • In der Tat, das hat er. Kann man natürlich auch so lesen, dass er sich eine goldene Nase verdient hat (bekannter Showbiz-Award für Filmschauspieler).
      Zu deiner Frage re. “Fragen Sie Armi” – Donnerstag um 15 Uhr deiner Zeit.
      Hoffe, der Sturm hat dich nicht weggefegt. Der hat sich hier gestern Nacht über Irland erst richtig aufgeblasen und ist dann zu euch gefegt… Mein Haus hat gezittert und gebebt. Steht aber noch. Ihr könnt also im Mai immer noch kommen…

      • Ich glaube wir würden auch im Zelt schlafen, aber schön, dass Ihr ‘Niklas’ gut überstanden habt. Ich hatte ein paar heiße Momente als Beifahrer meines Sohnes der seit kurzem den Führerschein hat, und auf dem Weg hier runter natürlich unbedingt fahren wollte – und Sturm? Welcher Sturm? – ich musste nur einmal ins Lenkrad greifen, war aber fix und alle hinterher….
        Hat der download geklappt? Bist Du am ZIEL? 🙂 Es gibt doch für die Ostertage nichts schöneres als gutes Fernsehen, so gleich nach den Ostereiern und Osterhasen…..
        Danke für den Donnerstags-Tip! Werde ich mir dann am Karfreitag rigendwann anlesen, vorher sind Family und Freunde angesagt 🙂

        • Oha, die ersten Fahrerfahrungen… Da graut mir auch vor, ist aber noch ein,zwei Jahre hin… Was machst du eigentlich in Bayern? Osterurlaub?
          Und von wegen mit dem österlichen Fernseherlebnis. Die Saga geht noch weiter. Ich mag schon gar nicht mehr dazu tweeten. Als ich heute morgen an den über Nacht weitergelaufenen PC kam, stand der Download als 100% heruntergeladen im Fenster. Nur dass meine “Session” abgelaufen sei. Als ich mich dementsprechend neu eingeloggt habe, verschwand der Download. Aktuell befinde ich mich jetzt wieder bei satten 7% heruntergeladen… Wenn das ein Aprilscherz ist, DT, dann finde ich den ausgesprochen bescheuert. *grah*

                • Was ist denn jetzt wieder los???? WP gönnt sich einen Aprilscherz, oder was. Anonymus, so ein Bullsh…… Also wollte sagen, dass dein Ärger gut nachvollziebar ist und ich auch gerne mal schlechte Laune kriege, wenn es an mein Geld geht.

                @Guylty Mann oh Mann…. so schlecht kann dein Internet doch gar nicht sein 😦 Jemand hatte sowas ahnliches und hat die angeschrieben und sie haben das Gelz zuruckgeschickt und ihr geraten die SD Version zu versuchen die ist halt kleiner und kommt besser runter, aber sieht wahrscheinlich am PC besser als am Fernseher aus, ich denke aber fur PC reicht auch SD… Drucke Daumen dass es doch klappt!
                Ich glaube ich gucke Guy fertig aus der Retorte, bin einfach nicht lang genun zu Hause diese Tage um es runterzuladen.. na ja und habe das Geld leider fur Live Theater ausgegeben ups, really bad fan.. vielleicht sollte ich dafur weniger Schokoeier essen…

  9. I’m the happy recipient of this latest and greatest RAPS! I was barely passed the front door when I ripped through a small brown package from Dublin.

    The description of “RA in La la Land” came to me as soon as I saw Guylty’s clever appropriation of Richard’s name in the Hollywood Hills. I immediately thought of how the “Hollywood” sign was originally an advert for a hillside housing development in the 1920s called “Hollywoodland.” Upon close study of the cute Oscar statues and Hollywood Walk of Fame star, I thought of the “La la” and my own distaste for Hollywood awards and celebrity PR hype. Despite my ambivalence, I know these awards and symbols can add professional and public currency to an actor’s career or legacy, something that I want more for Richard.

    Placing Richard both front center, as well as lurking behind the ultimate symbol of Hollywood artistic recognition, to me astutely symbolize Richard’s approach to his career. Richard puts himself out there–working, pushing himself artistically, emotionally–yet he also hides, blends in, maybe to protect himself from the un-groundedness that is Hollywood.

    This RAPS is perfect for me in that it’s aspirational, fun, yet also brings out my ambivalence.
    The glittering dust on Richard and on the iconic scrubby, arid hillside reminds me of William Faulkner’s short story “Goldenland”, where LA has become an idealized place where the sun always shine and bronzed people strive for wealth and fame. Thank you for this brilliant RAPS!

    • Ha, Mia, that was an interpretation worthy of an art magazine 🙂 I wish I had been quite so conscious of what I was doing when I made this shrine… What counts is that you like it. But I like that you find something in it that makes you think. x.

  10. Bravo, Guylty! And I hope you are able to tell the future. RA is so deserving of so many awards and, if he doesn’t win the Olivier tomorrow, you may hear my guttural curses all the way to Dublin. I love the Oscar & Hollywood theme. You even redid that iconic sign and gave him his own star on the Walk of Fame. And do I see a little RA peeking around a statue? I couldn’t tell which character it was in the shadow.
    Am continuously amazed by your creativity. You were energized by NZ weren’t you?

    • Yes, I think it is high time RA’s talent was recognized with a prestigious award although I hope that the general enthusiastic, first-hand response he received at the curtain call and the stage door last summer is already precious to him. He really has earned it.
      And yes, your eyes did not deceive you – there is John Porter in there, sneakily hiding behind the Oscars. I hope he is not there to sabotage but to bodyguard the man…
      Thanks for the compliment :-). Yes, you could say that NZ has reenergized me. Getting away from it all meant that I was positively gagging for it when I came back home.

    • Oy, I didn’t dust it on *those* bits. (But good idea, I might do so when the next opportunity arises *ahem*)
      As for awards, yes to all of them. I do think he has a chance at the Oliviers. This is not about fan recognition but about critical success, and the play had all that and more.

      • me too actually, given how hard it is to get nominated, what plays and actors were on last year they put him up there because they meant it, i strongly believe now. Any of the 4. Personally i think on the strength, length, breadth, intensity, variety and versatility of performances it would be between him and James..
