2015 Armitage Weekly Round-up – tumblr edition #12

Slightly later than usual this week – not at my usual 8 am scheduled publishing time, due to shrining activity. No news from set. It’s still oh, so quiet. Pity. Especially as here is the opportunity to post something else but selfies… At least Stanley Weber keeps us supplied in technicolor images of Ireland. (Wonder whether that is Rockfleet Castle, or maybe Kildavnet Castle, or even Renvyle Castle?)

Anyhow, it’s a long weekend here in Ireland. The May Day holiday has been rescheduled in such a way that Monday is off (not the original 1st of May). Don’t labour laws apply to film crews, too? If so, then the cast and crew of Pilgrimage should have had a long weekend off. Or maybe Mr A was up early on his way to the airport to jet over to the bigger isle and visit family and friends? It’s only an hour by plane, so just around the corner…

    Nr. 1: Finde ich gut, dass du das bekannt machst. Vielleicht ist das der erste kleine Anfang einer erfolgreichen Karriere für non6ix. 🙂

    Außer Konkurrenz 😉 : Ich frage mich, wie lange RA wohl schon fotografiert? Er scheint ja doch ein bisschen Übung zu haben, auch mit Bildbearbeitung. – Jaja, müßig, darüber zu spekulieren. Es zeigt höchstens, wie viel wir von dem Herrn nicht wissen. 😉

    • Schön, dass einiges kommentarwürdiges für dich dabei war, Hedgy. Ad 1. Normalerweise bin ich ja nicht so dafür, Werbung zu machen. Aber wenn es um Fan Art geht, warum nicht. Ich finde es toll, wenn fellow fans uns ihr Talent kostenlos zur Verfügung stellen. Umso besser, wenn sie dann auch einen weg finden, ihren Aufwand zu versilbern.
      Re. RA und fotografieren. Hm, ganz ehrlich gesagt, bin ich da anderer Meinung, was das angeht. Ich finde seine Fotos jetzt eigentlich in keiner Weise herausragend. Von Bildbearbeitung habe ich da noch nicht so viel gesehen – das findet ja dann auch wahrscheinlich alles auf dem iPhone statt, ist also vermutlich ein vorgegebener Instagram oder sonstwas Filter. Das macht man mit einem Klick, das ist eigentlich nichts Besonderes. Ich habe also nicht den Eindruck, dass er sich mit Fotografie besonders beschäftigt. Zum Vergleich, guck dir mal die Bilder von Stanley Weber auf Instagram an. Der hat zwar ein (unschönes) Faible für zu bunte Farben, ist aber offensichtlich stärker interessiert an Fotografie, macht seine Fotos mit “Absicht”. Die erkenne ich bei RA eher selten. Das liegt aber auch daran, dass RA vorwiegend Selfies macht *ggg*…

      • Ich hätte eigentlich immer Grund, irgendwas zu kommentieren, aber in letzter Zeit war die Realität nicht immer so dolle, dass ich dafür Nerv gehabt hätte. (Tja, und *wenn* ich kommentiere, vergesse ich die Hälfte der Anmerkungen … Mein Kopf ist ein … Wie heißt nochmal das Ding mit den vielen Löchern? 😉 )

        *g* Ich muss gestehen, dass ich un- oder zumindest wenig bearbeitete Fotos mehr schätze als zurechtgepfuschte (falls ich das mal so respektlos ausdrücken darf). Ich schätze, die Frage kam in mir hoch, weil mich das eine Foto (das ohne Sonne) einfach angesprochen hat. Mehr jedenfalls, als mich viele RA-Selfies ansprechen (Sakrileg!!!). 😀

          Heißt also: Ich mag allein den Gedanken nicht, dass dran verbessert wurde … 😉

        • In der Beziehung stimme ich voll mit dir überein – die Selfies reißen mich wenig vom Hocker. Mir sind es einfach zu viele, und im Vergleich mit dem anderen Bildmaterial, was wir von Herrn Armitage haben, sind die Profifotos einfacher besser *achselzuck*. Und letzten Endes bin ich grundsätzlich kein Selfie-Fan. Ganz harsch ausgedrückt – ich finde, das ist etwas, das Teenager(-Mädels) machen… Was Bildbearbeitung grundsätzlich angeht: Die ist Teil von Fotografie. War sie übrigens schon immer, denn auch analoge Fotos konnten und wurden im Entwicklungsprozess noch “verbessert” – man kann da in der Dunkelkammer ebenfalls Filter auflegen, Bildteile hervorheben oder verschwinden lassen. Insofern ist das “Pfuschen” ganz normal. Ich selbst bin da eher der Minimalpfuscher – ich passe im Nachhinein lediglich die Belichtung noch mal an, schneide zu und justiere ggf. die Saturation, aber zu großen Herausschneideaktionen fehlt mir einfach die Lust. Ich mag die dokumenatarische Natur von Fotografie, die “Abbildung von Wirklichkeit”. Deswegen sind mir z.B. die bunten Filter von Weber auch zuwider, denn so sieht die Realität einfach nicht aus…

          • Die Minimal-Pfuscherei – 😀 – stört mich nicht. Zuschneiden, aufhellen, was-weiß-ich, das ist okay und verbessert wirklich. Denk mal umgekehrt an Dunn, die offenbar nicht so aufs Zuschneiden steht …

            Aber andere Sachen empfinde ich nicht als Verbesserung. Fältchen wegbügeln? Warum? (Und von Photoshop-Pannen ist da noch nicht mal die Rede … Vor ein paar Tagen hat irgendein Model oder so ein Selfie gemacht, das es in die Promi-News geschafft hat. Genial bearbeitet: Das Dekolleté beginnt direkt unterm Hals.)

          • i rather liked R’s dark photo of the water and the dangerous clouds, looked beautiful and untouched to me. The Weber ones don’t look real at all anymore and don’t much look like Ireland either in those colours… not sure why he feels the need to pimp them up as much 😉

            • “Pimping” is quite the word… I agree – apart from the sunsets which really are all the purples, pinks and reds that Weber puts into his pictures, the rest of Ireland is predominantly green, blue and brown. That one picture of the bright red mountains was totally OTT…
              RA’s sunrise (?) pics were nice, I agree – but if we want to criticize them, then I’d say they would have benefitted from a bit of cropping or better framing (leaving out the road markings for instance) and slight exposure adjustment. The point is – he is *not* a photographer, that much is clear to me when I look at those pics. And I do not mean that as a criticism in any way. He has an eye for beauty, and he captures it. But the fact that he doesn’t endlessly fiddle with the settings tells me that he is not majorly concerned with the picture itself, other than trying to record a particular event and a particular atmosphere.
              Having said all that – I actually *do like* his non-selfie photography. I am interested in his “way of seeing” – what he finds noteworthy, beautiful, funny. You can learn something about his aesthetics, even his mind-set from the pictures he takes. That applies to all people who engage in any kind of photography – their pictures are as much a reflection of their own personality than a reflection of their environment.

              • yes i came late to his snaps from NZ bit it was the same kind of atmosphere, mostly early mornings or maybe late nights.. somewhat peaceful, landscape only shots. Feels like he is on his way to somewhere or is someplace and just gets sucked into the peaceful beauty of it and immortalises it as much for himself as for us. I’d say mostly for himself but he thinks it is beautiful enough to share. I don’t know what he feels about them, but i know how i feel about those kinds of views , they make me feel very peaceful but energised at the same time, the world feels so beautiful and unspoilt and perfect it just feels good to be there at that particular moment in time. And sometimes i just want to capture it to remember that moment 🙂 I don’t think i’ll ever be a settings fiddler myself either. But i want to know the machine well enough to chose the setting that captures the moment as accurately as i see it as much as possible. I want to see in the picture what i felt watching it through my eyes 🙂 And i’ve come to understand that does take a bit more knowledge than just pressing the button 🙂 He doesn’t seem to be into carrying equipment and such and is happy to snap with his Iphone. 🙂
                I like what i feel when i look at those snaps of his. I still remember the one from China with the water and sunset, that was so special…

                • I think we all take pictures for that reason – holding on to *that* moment that in some shape of form seemed meaningful or beautiful to us. Photography records memory – whether you are a pro or not, doesn’t matter. As such there is a deliberate action at the heart of it – the desire to document. It’s not even that what happens after the moment, defines the photographer. There are plenty of occasions when I do not play with adjustments but leave an image as it is. I think the defining difference comes just before the release of the shutter – those with a photographic interest take a second to take in the surroundings in terms of composition and then shoot. Those who want to simply record the moment, do not. There is no qualifying judgment inferred in this – it’s simply two different approaches, which serve different people with different interests.
                  In any case, a photograph – whether my own or someone else’s – only “works” if it is shared with others. I am glad that he is sharing his, on occasion. I really liked the one from China.

      • I hope you are feeling better today Guylty. After FCBD Saturday, I was brain-dead pretty much all day Sunday. It is always such an intense day for those of us that worked all day at the store that is. I don’t always understand why it is so exhausting to meet, great and talk to hundreds and hundreds of people non-stop for 10 hours. No breaks, no downtime, no slow times. By the end, we all just look at each other and can barely communicate. I wonder why it works that way, it isn’t like we are doing physical labor, but we all feel physically exhausted. Towards the end of the day, a girlfriend, Felicia wanted to take some photos of me behind the counter and the hubs came up behind me making What a Guy Wants sort of rude comments so I turned and stuck my tongue out at him. He bent down and kissed it in front of everyone! I was really embarrassed, but turned to smile at Felicia anyway cause she was laughing. I think she got that kiss in a photo, but I haven’t looked at all the pictures she took. What a day.

        • What you describe is really interesting – reminds me of what it must be like for the actors to do a press junket. And sure, of course it is really exhausting to talk all day long, even if it is a topic one is familiar with. Any form of communication takes brain power – expressing oneself coherently, reacting to questions, interacting with another person on the level that they are suggesting… It all reminds me of being a teacher and communicating all day long – I used to be completely exhausted by the end of my school days when I still was a teacher. I needed a nap when I got home…
          LOL – good to see that the hubster can still surprise you.

  7. Huh, I knew why I saved these treats up, just pushed myself through ep 11 of Hannibal S2,phew. Can’t go to bed right now and this time not even tea and Mozartkugeln help, my stomach did churn more than once. I nearly burst out laughing quite hysterically when they got to bed rather then to killing, phew… I was like at the screen: really????!!!! An there was far too much eating in this ep too, nearly brought back my pizza. But at the same time I have to admire how well it is done, even though I am prepared for it, or so I thought the last 2 eps have tested my stomach and my eyes ack!
    I think it will definitely help that hopefully in S3 they will not be chopping up somebody each ep and hopefully they’ll go on a diet! This one has put me of bacon and sausages for a while and that is unforgivable!
    Anyways, my eyes need treats, right now!

    2- Yes.. no… yes 🙂
    3- You mean really not? So all that about foot size and such, no??? neither????
    4- Mumbles.. yes I watched that too… yes, I know, just to hear his voice.. sigh

    • When I read what you (and others) write about watching Hannibal, I get really scared… I am so not going to be able to look at that… I think it will only be the Dolarhyde episodes for me… Context? Ack, f*ck the context… *ggg*

      • Well horror is one of the few genres I’m not at all into. I just don’t want or enjoy being scared. I can deal with some gore in police drama but i always have the comfort of the bad guys being caught Well most times and the actual acts and enjoyment of evil are never as prominent. Whereas horror is all about scarying you and bad things happening sigh. And the books are not that reliable in how this is done either They are doing things to Will i am pretty sure never happened in the books. Everyone and everything becomes evil.. But at least once we hit Francis there should be none if this stomach flipping cooking anymore as he doesn’t do any and Lecter should be in prison. Phew but nothing is really safe… and the fact they said ep 12 or so with FD shocked even crew in term of gore doesn’t bode well for my appetite ehem… there is only one certainty. . We will/should be scared. .. very scared. . Shivers

        • I’ve been wondering about that hint. I think it refers to the scene with Freddy Lounds. Was bad enough in the book. But – gasp – are they really going to recreate that with a female paparrazzi??? Ugh. (sorry, inverse sexism, I know)

          • i thought so too… she had a run in with Will the ep i watched and i thought we might be spared that particular thing from the book, but maybe not :-S for me too that was the most horrid thing, mind you him using those dentures on dead people wasn’t much better.. sigh… might really have to look away, then again typically in Hannibal we see the output and not the actual deed, marginally better 😉

          • so i had a sneak peak at next ep in S2 – just watched 10- and my suspicious seem to have been correct, that scene in the book we are talking about happens much earlier and is not the work of DF, so it will be something else.. shudders.. Decided not to read the ep summaries ahead as it spoils watching it. But i am sad and disappointed they turned Will into a killer 🙂 sigh… but it’s a horror story, i shouldn’t have hoped for a character to stay on the good side..

            • I think we are talking about two different things here. SPOILER I was actually referring to FD taking FL captive, torturing him and then setting him on fire. There were snaps from the set of Hannibal earlier this year, and a picture in an interview with Hannibal producer Loretta Ramos where they showed the burnt dummy used in that particular scene. Weird thing is – in the book I didn’t even find it *that* horrible. Well, I chose not to dwell on it, I suppose. So I am wondering how much artistic license they are going to take with this…

              • SPOILER alert- i didn’t find the talking and capturing scene that bad either in the book, but then it really smacked me in the face when it turned out he did kill Loundis and how… shudders… but i just read S2 ep 11 summary and she turns out charcoaled in a wheelchair stuck to it, just like in the book there already… I guess there are 2 possibilities, the FD story was happening somewhere in the background??? and it was FD who killed her in the end (but i think unlikely…) or actually they used the idea earlier , since she is a female blogger and they introduced the character earlier anyway. In S2 ep 10 she stumbled in Will’s!!! shed upon bits of a killer he just killed and last we see her she runs off screaming but he catches her and drags her off by her hairs.. and in the next ep she’s supposed to turn up like that (ie killed the way FD kills the guy in the book). So this is why i was saying they used that bullet in S2 already so i don’t know what they will then do with FD in that respect in S3, take the whole newspaper guy bit out?
                (Did i say how disturbed and disappointed i was they took Will down that road? they are really riding the idea of Lector and Will killing together and so far there has already been 1 case where Will killed in self defence and then Lector deconstructed the body…. i’m getting the feeling that with Freddie they are going even further than the road with that idea… sigh)

                • What the…??? They have already used that particular, gruesome detail in season 2? But, but… but that was totally out of context? Unless they are now tying it in with season 3, sort of like a flashback or something.
                  Anyhow, thanks for the info. It certainly makes it clear to me that the whole show is only loosely based on the books. Hmph. That means I can basically bin my earlier recommendations re. watching Hannibal or not, based on the novel.

                  • indeed, te novel reflected ‘my’ Will from S1 as well but that has all gone out the window too.. i think the books are inspiration but nothing more, the character relations are very different from the books. However i do think in case of FD they will keep closer to the books. But not in all, as from books my expectation would have been that FD is THE main character of that part and not NEARLY AS PROMINENT as Lecter and Will, as Fuller put it… that is a very different balance than in the book and i do wonder how they will keep Lecter and Will and prominent and effectively still as the main characters without changing the narrative… hm..

                    • Sounds like a bit of a mishmash – reinterpreting Will completely (in order to fit some sort of homoerotic scheme?) but sticking to Dolarhyde as described? Well, I am still entirely torn between curiosity and fear. I will be monitoring the audience’s reactions when the first episodes appear…
