This was short and sweet: A week after I sprung the plan of a charity fundraiser on you, the donations and auction prices have rolled in. I have had final confirmation from the anonymous donor “Mr HErmitage” behind the scenes that he will cough up. In fact I had communication from his go-between, and she gives us insight how the generous donation came to pass. Writes she:
Mr. Hermitage and a few actor friends were enjoying cocktails in the Polo Lounge, not the one in Beverly Hills, but the one a little further south in Inglewood. He prefers to go where he is not recognized or pestered by eager fans, and the Lounge is a favorite hangout. As he sipped his dirty martini and admired his long, tapered fingers holding the glass gracefully, he remarked to his friends in his beautifully deep voice. “Guys, I may have screwed up big time.” “What is it this time?” Chris Temsworth asked as he sipped his cucumber mojito. Tom Widdleson and Ben Cumberbund leaned in so as not to miss a word. “I promised to match a charity donation.” His friends congratulated him on his humanitarian efforts and gave him a hearty toast. “You don’t get it. I never thought these women would raise so much money with their love of Armitage (he found it hard to get his rival’s name out of his mouth without his famous sneer.) I am a little short this month and I can’t donate to the cause without having my electricity turned off.” “Dude, when are you going to learn to let the Armitage thing go? So what if his Red Dragon is about to debut. You have that great tv movie for the sci-fi channel coming out, the Blue Lizard, right?” Temsworth said while putting a comforting arm around Hermitage’s shapely and broad shoulders. “No worries, we will help you make up the amount. It’s for a good cause. I never would have thought those women could raise so much money either. I will never understand what they see in that Armitage guy.

The total donation sum may fluctuate a bit according to exchange rate – a number of donations were made in GB£ and €uro, and in a number as grand as this one, the currency conversion will have a noticeable effect. But it is safe to say that the funds raised are an amazing number. I am planning to transfer the money at the weekend and will notify my arbiters Claudia and Helen when I have done so.
On a personal note I would also like to say that it was gratifying to the extreme to organize this fundraiser. I had a great time, watching all those bids coming in, adding up figures, and most of all communicating with bidders and donors behind the scene. I was very pleased to see that the project reached cross-platform (Pinterest, Twitter, Tumblr), and was surprised to hear that a few participants – who were previously little or unknown to me – are regular, silent readers. I respect your decision to stay under the radar, but please be assured that you are always welcome to “de-lurk” and be part of the discussion and chat!

Now, please read on, though, because I’d like to show you something else. First – and in good old, PR-compatible and teasing manner – a few introductory words. Hark up, Armitage, and observe closely what I am doing. This is called “creating suspense while blowing one’s own horn”. Popular marketing strategy that could be useful for your own purposes!! early on in the course of the auction I thought that I should really reward anybody who a) gave money voluntarily or b) bid and therefore risked having to cough up the steeply rising prices. Just a small thank you, for fun. But also an incentive to bid. @RCArmitage: That is another marketing ploy: Bait people with a freebie! I can think of a few things *you* could throw into the ring, and which wouldn’t cost you a thing…
Since I am short of money but rich in inspiRAtion (see what I did there?), I quickly had the idea to put Mimi’s “Altoid smalls” tin to use. Perfect for RAPSoids (n., definition: of similar form to a RAPS, but not the same as. Having the likeness of a RAPS. Suffix appended to “RAPS” to denote the small, simple version of the larger and more intricate pocket shrine variety.) while less labour-intensive for the lazy-bum work-shy Guylty. Also a great opportunity to use up the bits and bobs of previously printed but never used RA imagery. I’ll also add that the whole collection of 16 RAPSoids works as a unified body of work, which is a new approach to shrining that I had been eager to explore. I wonder whether you can spot the rhyme and reason to it? So here I present you –

Also, since I had not anticipated that there could possibly be more participants than I had RAPSoids, I will have to create 3 similar mini-thank you-shrines for the remaining 3 participants. Watch out for the big wave of gratefulness coming your way from happy shrine owners. Thank you for all you do. Be sure that you keep track of where all these lovely artworks are going, since they will have to be reunited for the Guylty Shrine Exhibition at the British Museum in ten years.

yes, i was surprised how well it actually worked, not just as a whole but on each individual subject 🙂 I didn’t guess the right poem off the bat but i did realise it was one looking at them in sequence 😉 It is a really really beautiful one and it covers so many shades and moods; made me realise how many different characters he has played

Nr. 7 ist auch nicht schlecht, aber das ist bestimmt schon cRAmerrys Favorit. 😉

Ich hab’s beim ersten Durchgang total verpeilt, hätte aber zu einigen RAPSoids was zu sagen. Für den Fall, dass es da imer noch Probleme gibt, mache ich das jetzt einfach hier. 🙂
Übersicht: Was andere schon gesagt haben: Das wäre ein interessantes Poster. Vor allem, wnn ich mir vorstelle, dass ein Uneingeweihter es sieht und verwirrt davor steht … *gg*

hahaha, doch genau, Resteverwertung ist genau das Wort. Nur das benutzt, was schon ausgedruckt war. Dazu musste ich allerdings dann auch noch in alten Notebooks Fotos opfern, denn es passte nicht alles so, wie ich wollte.
Re. Poster – ok, ich muss das mal angehen. Witzig sieht sowas ja schon aus. Könnte ich ja auch als Blog-Hintergrund nutzen.

Dafür muss ich allerdings dann wohl bei WordPress ein neues Theme kaufen und bezahlen. Aber ich habe mir überlegt, dass es so aussieht, als würde das Bloggen wohl noch eine Weile weitergehen. Da würde sich die Investition dann wohl doch lohnen. Und vielleicht sollte ich dann sowieso mal eine Domain kaufen und das Blog etwas professioneller machen. Allein schon weil mir demnächst der Platz zum Hochladen von Bildern ausgeht… 2.1GB von 3.0 GB sind schon verbraucht…

Ah, I see. Gerade das finde ich an denen so witzig. Aber im Grunde sind sie ja sowieso nicht besonders originell, weil sie maschinell gemacht sind und man immer wieder nur die Auswahl aus denselben Bildchen hat… Ich habe auch schon lange keine mehr gemacht. Andere Leute sind aber noch dabei.

The poem worked pretty well with the idea of creating little vignettes. If I hadn’t set myself the task of using up stuff I already had, I could’ve made this even more fitting for the various chaRActers, but I wanted to strictly stay with my self-imposed impro rule.
As for the success of the project – it was a community project, for *all* of us together. I was the facilitator, and I would do it again, no question. It is great that my little boxes were able to do some good, too, so I am extremely pleased.

Re.RAymond: Ich BRENNE darauf, das verblümelte Teaser-Foto mal richtig in Augenschein nehmen zu dürfen. Die RA-Bartfreundin in mir bekommt schon ansatzweise weiche Kniee. Und die mehrlagige Silhouette macht Lust aufs Auspacken 😉

Oh Mann, stimmt, Das hätte ich dir ja sagen müssen: Den Bart hatte ich mir ganz exklusiv bestellt. Direkt am kompletten Fandom vorbei. Sorry! Aber ich darf dich beruhigen, ich habe die kurzgeschorene Version geordert, die die Gesichtszüge nur noch mehr akzentuiert. Ich denke, die Irritation wird sich in Grenzen halten. 😉 Wir werden in jedem Fall eine “schöne” Version zu sehen kriegen. Da bin ich mal sowas von überzeugt.

Ich denke übrigens höchst altruistisch an Herrn Armitage selber bei meiner Zurückweisung des Bartes. Er hat doch selber gesagt, dass er kein Fan vom Barthaar ist. Ich unterstütze ihn da.

Sprachlos ist wirklich gut – wer hätte gedacht, dass so viel Geld zusammenkommt? Und ich hatte Zweifel, ob überhaupt jemand mitbieten würde.
Hehe, gute Taten machen allerdings süchtig. Man möchte das gute Gefühl, an so einer Aktion teilgenommen zu haben, immer wieder haben. Aber keine Angst, ich werde eure Konten nicht über Gebühr strapazieren. Das würde ja auch irgendwann langweilig werden…

Doch, wir haben alle damit gerechnet. Es hat sich deutlich abgezeichnet, dass dieser Plebiszit v.a. die junge Wählerschaft mobilisiert, die sonst politikverdrossen und desinteressiert ist. Schon im Vorfeld war eigentlich klar, dass die Ja-Stimmen in der Überzahl sind. Ich hatte da eigentlich keinen Zweifel dran.
Jedenfalls ein Ergebnis, das einen stolz macht, daran mitgewirkt zu haben. Dabei ist es eigentlich selbstverständlich, dass ALLE die gleichen Rechte haben sollten.

Gerade habe ich ein Zitat unseres Justizministers gelesen, über anstehende Änderung im deutschen Recht bei Ehe und Lebenspartnerschaft: “Das ist ein weiterer Schritt auf dem Weg zur umfassenden Gleichstellung.”
Komisch, ich kann mich irgendwie vage an etwas erinnern, das ungefähr so klingt: “Alle Menschen sind gleich.” – Wieso muss man da einen Weg zu umfassender Gleichstellung gehen? 😦

You know what I like them all but most of all I like the collection; you know the first photos, of the lot would make a brilliant A3 or similar , square in this case, poster! White thick border and black slim frame and it would look gorgeous on any wall, RA x16 🙂
1- Thornton, always endearing 🙂 not my favourite or rather not the one to create sparks for me but he’s a good lad; like the bottom (of the raps! )
2- See, more of the sweetness 🙂 all pink and purple sparkle :-p
3- You know what Standring is really really sweet, to me sweeter than Thornton above and that smile just makes one melt, total aww Makes one wonder what he will become when HE grows up 😉
4- Ah, so that is what he grows into … sssssszzzztttt (finger on hot stuff ;-)) love the lady fainting away behind him (looking at his behind? :-p)
5- Lets consider the positives.. ‘cough’ .. the cat had good thighs :-p
6- This is a hoot.. of all the poses with.. erm… grace? And the lower one… buaaaa, it still huuuuuurtssss that hand turning the man away… buaaaaaaa!
7- Oh yessss.. arms, hands…. Sigh.. thud!
8- A roll in the hay? I’m up for it!
9- Shoulders, neck, look.. ni… cough, what’s not to like?
10- That face.. the lips.. THOSE lashes.. definitely indecent 😉 and that verse fits perfectly with the expression..
11- I hope that shirt and that neckpiece went up in flames sometime ago.. literally! 😀
12- The lord of his sword, always good for the .. heart 😉
13- Is THE lucky number… that bottom sight is what did me in… shoulders, neck… I am gone! literally makes me drool…
14- Ohhhhh.. my saviour! Literally eh, he used to be life-size on the wall in one the buildings at work; they are now closing it down, break my heart to think in a couple weeks time they will take everything down and I will no longer walk past him on my way to and from boring or stressful meetings, he made me smile many times a week… sigh… It is weird as so all buttoned up would not be my first choice but it felt reassuring every time I saw him, like he was telling me: girl, you can do this 🙂
15- eye and the kiss…. The perfect combo really 🙂
16- just Guy… need we say more? The profile, the liner, the look, the lips… this raps is edible, right?

You know, the idea with a poster/picture of the 16 shrines as a whole, cRAmerry said the same. I’ll think about it. Unfortunately it was the very first of all shrines that did come out slightly fuzzy in the image. Camera shake. And I can’t retake it because it is impossible to get exactly the same set up with exactly the same light again. But well…
Thanks for all your comments on the individual shrines. It’s hard to say which one would be my favourite. In my case it depends on the photos I used – I will forever love that picture of RA that Servetus has on her blog’s landing page. And then there is Guy, no. 16 – because I *am* openly Guy…

Guy is such a giver! i don’t know any bad photos of Guy 🙂 yeah i like that other photo too and although the Lucas in a suit one is not the best and it is reversed i think it just is the 1 photo i am most familiar with of all; nothing quite like walking past a life size version every day 🙂 I’ll miss him

I’ve been out of pocket for almost a week and suddenly realized I’d better check my email notices. Amazing how they pile up.
The RAPSoids are all so adorable! Using Sandburg’s poem was an inspiration. I can’t remember ever having seen that one. I especially howled with laughter over #9 the identification of RA just by his chest hair because several friends are always sending pictures of said hair to me; just the chest. It’s like a test. They know I go bonkers for it; armpits too. Am I not pitiful? LOL

Hi Guylty,
What a wonderful surprise I got today! ❤ A beautiful Rapsoid which I absolutely adore in such exquisite wrapping. I had forgotten that it was coming so that made it all the sweeter. My son was astonished that it came from a friend I had made through RA.(Both my sons came with me to London to The Crucible) but this is what this RA community is all about, kindness and caring, and it trumps every negative that rears it's ugly head at one time or another. Thank you for your thoughtfulness! XOXO
