After a confusing post a few days ago, which was really only meant to sound out if I may depend on your support, it is now time to *really* ask for your help again, dear friends in our community of Armitage fans. You have proven time and again how generous and compassionate you are, the latest occasion being Mr A’s birthday when a hint by the birthday boy resulted in several thousands of ££ being donated to his latest cause. And you have stepped up to the plate even when it was not a celebrity asking for your kind consideration, but just a fellow fan – you supported the RAPS for Charity fundraiser in aid of Nepal back in May with an overwhelming enthusiasm and generosity.
Now your well-wishing capabilities are needed again. This time for the poorest of the poor – those, who have left everything behind and own nothing more than the clothes on their backs, and their lives: the Syrian refugees who are currently fleeing their country, taking a perilous journey across the Mediterranean Sea in tiny boats, and arriving in Southern Europe with hope but little else. Their plight has motivated many people into action, and if you have not yet done anything but would like to, maybe here is your opportunity.
Announcing #cRAftingForCharity – a series of auctions to raise funds for the Syrian refugees!
Without any prompting, my tentative suggestion of a fundraiser was immediately met with enthusiasm by a number of special supporters of the scheme. I am therefore delighted to announce that there will be nine (9!!!) individual auctions in total which will include some much coveted items by fellow crafters such as plushie-maker Sinnamin and needle-worker Lily whom you may know from Twitter, as well as blogger Obscura and tumblrer Pollysthings, and commentators Kelly and Pat. They all have kindly donated hand-made, original work or coveted fan-items for these extra-special auctions.
On auction will be (in no particular order):
- a unique and one-of-a-kind plushie by Sinnamin
- a hand-stitched Red Dragon tapestry miniature by Lily
- a classic Armitage tote bag by Obscura
- an amazing custom-made Thornton doll plus Armitage fan package including jewelry and a Thorin tote by Pat
- an original Crucible postcard donated by Kelly
- two RA pocket shrines which come in a gift bundle with special surprises, kindly supported by Pollysthings,
- and two further individual RA pocket shrines, including one “Customize your Own”-RAPS.

The auctions are not happening today, and the items on auction will be presented with images properly at a later stage, but this is what is planned:
All of the proceeds from the auctions will go to a charity that benefits the Syrian refugees. I have not yet settled on a charity. If you have suggestions, please get in touch or leave a comment.
The #cRAftingForCharity auctions will start Saturday, 19th September at 3pm GMT. Separate posts will go up on guylty.wordpress.com – one for each item/bundle that is in the auction. The auctions will run for three days, i.e. until Tuesday, 22nd September at 3pm GMT.
Postage and packing of the auction items will be covered, kindly supported by donations from Perry and SHeRA, so all the auction proceeds are for charity.
For those of you who would like to make a donation instead of bidding in the auctions, I am happy to facilitate that. Let me know if you are interested and I will explain how you can send on your contribution.

No auction without rules – so please read through the following small print to make sure you agree with the procedure.
#cRAftingForCharity auction rules:
The #cRAftingForCharity auction is like a silent auction – bids are accepted behind the scenes, but I will post updates on current bids publicly on the blog. The bids are handled confidentially – no names will be disclosed and all your information will be handled with respect and discretion.
If there are any further questions, please ask in the comments or shoot me an e-mail at email@example.com.
DURING THE AUCTION
The 9 auctions each start at 3pm GMT, Saturday 19th September, and end at 3pm GMT, Tuesday 22nd September. Bids are accepted between those two times only, so bids that are sent in before or after will not be taken into consideration.
The auction is open to all and you can bid on all items. You can bid multiple times and raise your bid. There is no guide price for the auctioned items, and any bid is welcome! The highest bid at time of the auction closing will win the item.
All bids must be sent via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please make sure you put the item you are bidding on clearly in the subject line of your e-mail. Format: “Bid for plushie” – “Bid for Armitage tote bag” – “Bid for custom RAPS”. In your e-mail, please state the amount of your bid. I will reply to let you know your bid has been accepted. There is no need to send contact details yet – I will get back to the auction winners as soon as the end results are compiled.
To facilitate fair and comparable bidding across different currencies, I ask you to submit your bid converted into US-Dollars. You can find a handy currency converter HERE.
While I will be updating the bids in the comments (and the post), and irregularly on Twitter, please do not bid through comments or tweets but send me an e-mail with your bid instead! Should there be two or more identical bids, I will write a comment on the blog so that bids can be raised. Should an auction nonetheless end at a tie between two or more identical bids, the person whose bid had been received first will be the winner of the auction. Please make sure you subscribe to the comments on the post of the auction you are bidding on to receive timely notification.
The bid updates in the comments will be anonymous, i.e. the names of the highest bidders will not be disclosed! However, I encourage you to comment on and follow the auction through the comments!
AFTER THE AUCTION
Once the auction has finished, I will e-mail the winners with the good news, ask for your shipping details and send instructions on how to transfer the money. The preferred way of transferring the money is via Paypal, from which I will also be transferring the proceeds to Save the Children. Paypal converts the currencies automatically, btw, so if you are bidding from a non-US$ country, you can still take part.
The winning bidders will be announced as soon as I can in a final post on Tuesday, 22nd September. (If you do not want to be disclosed as the winning bidder, please notify me!) I will also announce the final auction proceeds for all three auctions. Make sure you also check your email so I can contact you if/when you win. If I do not receive confirmation from the auction winners by the Wednesday 23rd September, 3pm GMT, the item in question goes to the second highest bidders.
After the transfer is completed and I have received your shipping details, the item will be sent directly to you – except for the winner of the blank RAPS whose shrine will have to be produced first. There will be no further postage or packing costs!!
ALL the money raised with the auction will be transferred to a tbd charity in aid of the Syrian refugees. I would like to ask my previous independent arbiters Helen and CraMERRY for their services again, and will pass receipt of donations on to them once I have transferred the money to the fund. They will also help in case there are claims re. the auction and highest bids.
The information you provide, including your email address, bids, shipping details etc. will be handled with respect and the information obtained will be treated as confidential.

Money is not freely available to all of us, but helping spread the message about the upcoming auctions is as valuable to me as a monetary contribution. So if you would like to help, please blog and tweet about the auction, or reblog and retweet the auctions and announcements – the more people know about it, the higher our potential auction result. Use the hashtag #cRAftingForCharity, and feel free to use and illustrate your posts with the picture provided in this post.
Blog and tweet the F out of this!!!!
