2015 Armitage Weekly Round-up – tumblr edition #29

The pleasure of the lull is enveloping me. Yes, I actually quite like it when there is a so-called drought. Mind you, there was enough action this week, what with RA’s cheeky tweet. I wonder how he is doing with his German language coaching… I certainly look forward to hearing some uvular fricative Rs from him, and possibly some velar fricative CHs. Sounds dirty? Look it up! 😀 They are, btw, the benchmark upon which it will be decided how good his coaching was. For a native English speaker, those sounds are extremely difficult to replicate – because they do not really exist in (Standard) English. I have full confidence in RA, though, because he is musical, and that will certainly help him first *hear* the sound, and then imitate it. Well, and maybe I shouldn’t expect too much. He’s not playing a German (despite the extremely German name of his character), so I’ll forgive him any possible slip-ups and reverting back to the alveolar R.

It’s no coincidence that I am taking a (rare) tangent to a German topic today, btw, for it is the German national holiday, the “Day of German Unity”. I am not a great admirer of my own country, and I abhor nationalism of any kind, and so I do not celebrate it as such. It marks the day when German reunification was officially ratified in 1990. A more significant date would have been the 9th of November – as in 1989 on that day “the wall came down” and the border between East and West Germany was opened, hence clearing the path to reunification. A number of other events that forcefully influenced German history happened on the 9th of November. In 1918, the “November revolution” sealed the fate of the German empire when the Kaiser was declared to have abdicated and Social Democrat Philip Scheidemann declared the republic in Berlin (beating Spartacist Karl Liebknecht to it). In 1923, the “March on the Feldherrenhalle” in Munich, a Nationalist putsch, was thwarted. In 1938, the “Crystal Night” was a pogrom against the Jews when the synagogues were burnt down and many Jews arrested. The latter event made the day unsuitable as the German national holiday – it would have been cynical to celebrate a new Germany on a day that was the beginning of the most deplorable era of our history. And so it is on the nondescript 3rd of October that Germany marks its reunification.

There, history lesson over. And now let’s entertain ourselves with the creativity and wit of the RArmy. Here’s what I found on tumblr this week:

  1. Bongschur!
*soifz*

Ich bin jedenfalls schon gespannt, was Mr. A da auf Deutsch sagen darf.

Nö, no excuse 🙂

Never mind… freut mich jedenfalls, wenn was dabei war, was dich amüsiert hat 😉

18 -wunderschönes Guy Bild (hatte gestern Abend 3 Folgen ❤ )
    19 – zum brüllen super!!!
    21 I totally agree!! #derBartmusswechunddieHaarelänger
    25 Lol!!!

Gute Wahl 😀

          Like

          • Also Moment mal!!!!

  4. does that look like a tatoo one his side under his arm in the pic as Porter sitting down after his medical exam? Cause it looks like the same thing in the pic with him as FD with Reba.

    Like

      • Fourth pic down in ….I can’t believe I am typing this….”nipple gate 2″ and the sixth one with Reba. You can see a tattoo clearly in the Porter one and a dark smudge that looks like the same spot in the Reba pic. It’s below his arm on the side of his rib cage.

        Like

        • Oh, I see now – you clicked on the link on circusgifs page to get to Part 1 of the collection. No, that is not the same thing. In Porter it is some sort of scabbed wound. In the pic with Reba I actually think it is her thumb.
Edit – hold on, no, there is something there… Does Armitage have a secret tattoo???? 😉

          Like

          • No, I don’t think Porters is a scab….the link you replied to me with is from #7 on your list above, I’m referring to the pics in #8 of the list. Porter is sitting on the table before Dani comes in … you know, when he is looking at his file. There is definitely some sort of tattoo in addition to the one on his shoulder. It looks like 3 black lines. And in the pic with Reba I guess it could be her thumb but it also sure looks like a tattoo concealed with make up. (I think I am studying naked pics of RA a just a little too much!).

                • Exactly. I remember him saying that he would never get a tattoo. Although he also said that the red dragon tat was so good, he would have liked to have it for real. Honestly, Mr A???? Or maybe that was just another example of Mr A saying things he may not really mean 😉

              • ohh, i seeeeee (once i concentrated on the investigation and blocked out the double distraction for a bit ) looks like exactly the same spot… however it could be in Francis the smudge from the tattoo on his back. It is quite possible they applied it to the edges of his back so it would look ok and bits got on the ribs,… but it is interesting 🙂 Do we need to study Francis in more detail? Any more pics of that side???
If he did get one there he is extremely pain resistant as that is one of the most difficult and painful places to tattoo, precisely because there is little muscle to cover the ribs and it is ouch.

  5. Velar fricative “ch” in my experience is not that hard — one’s attention simply needs to be drawn to it (which is weird, because it’s not as easy for a lot of people to hear). The killer is the “r”. I read a lot about this consonant a few years ago, since I have a problem with it in every language other than English. Apparently little kids frequently make this sound but lose it since (as you note) it’s not used in English. However, boys who make machine noises when they play often manage to hold on to it (for instance, my brother has no problem making this sound at all even though he doesn’t use it on a daily basis). Let’s hope he played with little cars …

    • LOL. Maybe he’s born with it. Maybe it’s machinery… Interesting, although it makes total sense that all kids are born with the ability to produce *any* sound. (And thank you for the image of Little Richie playing with his matchbox combine harvester as a boy and going rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrr. Priceless. I wish one of those gifted artists would draw a manga type Richie right now…)

    • Ah, that would make perfect sense. It kind of wraps around his torso a bit. I am glad you are so observant 😉 It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it…

  6. Apologies for the tardiness! But i literally worked my way here from roundup #26! I missed out on two due to travel and work and only now caught up on them, actually yesterday and saved the most recent for the start of week slump 🙂
Ah i tell you it was nice to indulge in a bit of Hannibal nostalgia.
Some really beautiful drawings and i love the mini-plushies!
I never thought i could see Guy as more scary than sexy, but that edit certainly gives me cold shivers… ek!
Circusgifs is really killing us lately 😉 But what a way to day… mmmmm.. and there were 2 parts to it! I nearly feel bad for dedicating so much screen-time to a few inches of skin… glups. Interesting though how time has changed things, as far as i am concerned for the better, all more real and less pretty boy 🙂

And even a beard lover like myself now really really wants the pretty boy hair back!

I am in two minds about the German. I almost hope he is learning it for his couple of months stay there and not so much for the series. So far whenever there was an attempt to make people speak German in English speaking series it has been a disaster if it wasn’t native speakers. I believe the ‘ch’ sound is much more troublesome than the r. However, i do think he can get it right but it will still sound awkward because what usually happens is people slow down in their speech quite a bit to get it right and even if they pronounce it correctly it still sounds unnatural (which i think was the problem with his Russian, it wasn’t completely off, it was just overly careful and self conscious). I’m rather hoping although based in Berlin the agents in the film will use mostly English, because it won’t be just RA. Or they could go for mixed cast in which case we would be saved some audio-cringing. It has been done before in European coprods and when everyone sounds foreign in a way but with different accents it somehow works and isn’t distracting 🙂 But i am curious.

Flower-crown R and Thranduil are a hoot, i don’t even know who makes me laugh harder 😀
Guy’s mock apology to forest boy is just as hilarious :-).
Thanks so much for picking al the goodies for us and serving them up with whipped cream for our enjoyment!
