*yeehah* RA Pocket Shrine 100/? – Jubilation & CommemoRAtion

As I was nearing the magic number 100, I had a “cunning sleeve up my plan”. What if I could not only time it with my blogiversary, but also celebrate with a special project that would bring all 100 shrines together. A review, an anniversary – a reward for myself? That was in September, and I set about planning with gusto… Two months later and the blogiversary has gone by sorry, I keep going on about that, the secret project is currently inaccessible due to computer problems, and the shrines are piling up, so I didn’t even make a special shrine, possibly the first one for myself?, but I am presenting a shrine that was also for Linda60 as another over-due and long-promised shrine she was owed.

Since I know Linda personally, it was easy to make a shrine for her… a little memorial, actually… Linda and I have been to the three Hobbit premieres together. Well, the first one in London, 2012, was a bit of an abortive experience for me – while Linda and Judit had tickets for the premiere, I was going to watch the red carpet outside. But I left it too late and was not admitted into the fan area… In Berlin in 2013 we had much better luck, and we had a glimpse of RA on the red carpet in the Sony Centre. Then last year, reunited in London once again, we were disappointed once more and did not see much. Well, that’s not counting the fun we always have, regardless of RA 🙂 In any case, this is the Hobbit Memorial shrine for Linda:

Inside, the object of desire… with the fangirls in attendance, of course *ahem*. And a very selfish inclusion of a Guylty photograph, this time in the real, colour version. My excuse is, that Linda was there, herself, and therefore the shrine is to remind her of a great event…

Robert Hermitage also sneaked into the shrine…

And to complete the theme, of course Thorin had to feature…

Love… *drool*… *sniff* (with emotion). The memories of our premiere adventures will stay with us always and forever, I hope…

There we are. 100 shrines done and dusted. And in a way this shrine is a fitting object for the special number – celebrating a role that we all have enjoyed watching Richard bring to life, as well as the fun we continue to have together thanks to our shared interest. If it hadn’t been for that first premiere in 2012, I would not have met Linda. And if that, my very first fan meeting (which also included Judit and Agzy), had not been such a fun, positive experience, I would not have engaged with the fandom – and subsequently never made any shrines that now provide so much fun and creative satisfaction to me.

Thank you to all of you who have been following me in my mad endeavour with your kind encouragement through commissions and comments, through taking part in my raffles and auctions. You have set free my creativity!

Here’s to the next 100?!

  1. I love the way this shrine pulls everything together for Linda! And how special to be in your own shrine, along with its creator 😃

I’ve just done a lovely, leisurely trip through the 100 shrines. What a collection! Your creativity is just astonishing 😊 💐💐💐

    • I think it’s quite interesting to see the progression in my work there. The first shrine was still quite “unhewn”, really just a prototype. Number 2 and 3 also had not quite worked out the whole realisation of the idea. I think the first Kennedy shrine was what then set me off on a more detailed realisation of my ideas… In any case, great fun, still, and I am surprised that there are still ideas coming…

  2. Wow! What an impressive line up. I love my own two RAPS but I think if I had to choose one from all of these, I wouldn’t know where to start – they are all gorgeous. Thank you Guylty, I loved the opportunity to revisit them and drool some more. 😉 Here’s to the next 100!

    • Glad you liked the (selfish) overview over the whole, questionable Guylty oeuvre :-). I would find it very difficult to choose a favourite among them. I tend to like the detailed ones best, but some of the smaller RAPS are more personal and therefore also dear to me. Let’s see where the road takes me next 🙂

  3. Belated congratulations on the blogiversary and current kudos for creating 100 beautiful works of art. Linda 60 has quite the treasure. So glad to see Mr. Hermitage snuck in there. I heard he was out if sorts after being overlooked at Leeds. It seems his sequel to UATSC was overlooked. I relate to this shrine because I made a great friend, Miapatagonia, at the BOTFA premiere. Good times. Thank you so much, dear Guylty, for giving us such beautiful RAPS to make us smile.

    • Hermitage was actually quite depressed when he heard that RA had been received with so much love in Leeds. He reckons, he has lost that battle, but he is determined to keep throwing a spanner in the works as often as he can, sneaking into shrines like a ghost…
And it makes me very happy if the shrines make you smile. There is no greater achievement, I think.

    • It really *was* exciting – meeting people I had never seen before, kind of putting myself out there with my RA love, too. You guys were just so sweet and welcoming. It set the tone for me, and I have never had a bad fan meeting ever.

      • Hi Guylty and Judit! (This need be said: a real pity that Agzy has bent off!!)
Just a big and fat THANK YOU 😀 ! I remember us waiting for hours in the cold (!!) at the Green Carpet of The Hobbit-AUJ Royal Premiere in London in Dec 2012. We were so excited and started right away planning to visit the next two premieres. The best prospect seemed the third film, as at that time it was still scheduled for a summer 2014 release. July sounded so much more fun (camping!!) to wait outside for days… However, as we know, it turned out the other way…..Back then it appeared an endless long time until we would be able to see the full trilogy…

        • Total pity that Agzy has left the fold, yes. I miss her, too.
And wow – I had forgotten about those plans for a summer premiere. I think my premiere days are over. Winter or not. It’s all been done. It was fun. Never got the t-shirt, but been there nonetheless. Now on to new shores…

Thank you for the blogiversary wishes. You probably did comment on that before because I have been going on about that since week before last…

  6. Well, I thought so too about spells, but then (and I missed to write ”n” in post above – should have been then, not the) seeing I am still in one piece, I am probably Immune to consequences 😛 – yet I am 100% sure cause will be here for the rest of my life XD. And I am not complaining about that 😀
Anyway, since my birthday is in February, I must order one for myself, no more waiting. Just, gosh, it’s so hard to decide between Thorin, Lucas, Guy, John or RA himself.

  7. I love it that you have this record of all those shrines that have gone out to fans all over the world. So much creativity there! And the generosity that is one of the most inspiring aspects of fandom. It’s hard to choose a favorite but I really like the one with Thornton and the little train-car doors. Also this most recent one adds a new dimension as the fans themselves have “entered the shrine”!
    Looking forward to more 🙂

    • I always love it when there is something interactive in the shrine – when the shrine owner can open or close a door, remove an item – i.e. when the owner gets properly involved and engages with the shrine. Unfortunately that is not always possible (and it would be a bit boring if every single shrine contained a door in the background…) but it is something I always wreck my brain for…
Fans in the shrine – well that gives me an idea. Maybe I should switch to making shrines to the fandom, rather than just to a figure who is only on the margins of the fandom???

  8. Donorporträts im Schrein — !! Love this idea.

Congratulations on 100 shrines and three years — time has gone by so quickly, but I always love seeing what you’ll do next!

  9. Congratulations on your three year blogiversary! And wow, what a beautiful overview of all 100 shrines. You’ve sweetly put them all in one place for my viewing pleasure!

I have to say however, that I love mine best! If they are in order it looks like mine was number nine. Thorin with the map behind him and the sparkles in his hair. Funny thing, I would never have chosen Thorin but I absolutely love my shrine. Here’s to more shrines – as many as you are inspired to make 😀

    • I am glad that you like your shrine best, Tree – especially because you won it rather than commissioned it, so it was the luck of the draw. I remember being really excited when I made your shrine because I loved the idea of folding the map and making it look 3D. It’s one of my favourites too, because I also loved how the sparkly bits seemed to be *exactly* made for that picture of Thorin. It was meant to be 😉

      • I do love some of the Thornton ones – especially with the train car doors! Then again, maybe Porter. There are some excellent views of Porter 😉 Let’s face it you are extremely creative and you make it really hard to choose just one.

        Like

        • Aw, thanks 🙂 Porter is high up on my list at the moment, not sure why. He was never my favourite, but in the last while he has really pushed himself into the foreground… Let’s see if I can think up more stuff. At the moment I feel slightly overwhelmed by the whole array. Weird.

  11. This is what happens when you try to comment from a phone at the cinema, it doesn’t work. So, what i meant to say in the two comments that got lost in the internet world is:
Thank for being there for the fun years it has been 🙂 Congratulations for the blogiversary! What a lovely shrine to celebrate on, to remind us always of all the fun we have together 🙂
And so glad you put the shrines together as i think i missed quite a few! I could never choose a favourite one, they are all special in their own way. Thanks for sharing your endless creativity with us and the joy and the fun and the giggles and thanks for bringing these to life and giving joy to ours whenever we look upon them 🙂
May it long continue, you must 😉 i still have to decide on mine , ie decide who will Guy share his shrine with LOL
I hope you’ll have time and share the secret project with us at some point, maybe to cheer up January? 🙂 x

  12. What an incredible memorial shrine, not only to Mr. A but to the friendships that have been formed among all of his fans. We’ve discussed this in some Facebook groups; how our mutual admiRAtion brought us together but now we are far-flung friends, occasionally with opportunities to get together. We’ve cried and laughed with each other, and mourned as some have died. Your reminiscing of how you all met at the premieres and became friends brought tears to my eyes. I think that is the best part of the Armitage magic.
And, of course, the shrine is to die for. So, who is who in the little picture? Which one are you?

    • I have to admit that my fandom is becoming more and more important to me. Mr A is paling into marginality… (Sorry, Rich, but there is more in it than just you. My friends are real. You, sadly, are not.) so yes, they need to appear and be celebrated, too.
Thanks for your support, T! Xx

  13. It strikes me that these shrines are like a visual celebration of Mr A’s career and every one is like a beautiful gem in a glittering crown. Each one I look at brings a smile as I recall a particular character he played or a photo snapped of him. I congratulate you for creating these 100 and thank you for sharing your talent and creativity in such a wonderful way. Not possible to pick a favorite but so happy to see mine included in the mix. ❤️xx

    • Thank you, D, for a lovely comment. What you describe, was actually my original intention. I wanted to create a shrine for each character. Not sure how many shrines that would have been, but certainly less than 100. I never thought I’d make multiple shrines… And there are still a couple of characters that I have not enshrined yet. But well, who would want to have Philip Durant?? 😉

  14. Congratulations to 100 lovely made shrines!
And I’m the lucky girl who owns already three of them…
Yesterday, Linda60 told me about this special one, we three in in it, the pic taken from Dana with my camera , nearly two years ago. I will never forget the 9th December 2013…
Also the sign still decorates my bedroom wall, I’m single, I’m allowed to…

    • Thank you Ute – and yes, you are big in there 😉
How nice to think that the sign is still around. I am glad that you wanted it and saved it from the rubbish bin in which I was going to chuck it so unceremoniously…
I’ll never forget the 9th of December 2013, either – in fact I have just booked a flight to Berlin for a reunion with Dana; and I am probably going to walk through the Sony Centre just for sentimental reasons 😉
