Sometimes it’s almost too much… No, not really too much Richard – but maybe there is so much material out there that we are too busy perusing it and not enough time to do something with it? I know I have been out of the loop with my shrines. I had promised myself to make a shrine for each episode, as it comes along, much like I did with Hannibal. As it happens, I won’t be able to (partly because my workroom has currently been requisitioned as a guest room and I can’t get at my crafting material. Grah, and my fingers are itching… Plus, there will be a lot of travelling in my future, which means I am missing a couple of Sundays. Ah well.
Over on Twitter, we were discussing Berlin Station’s latest promo stunt. And I’m fascinated because this is where my RL work collides with my RA interest.

Apparently there are a few other “personalised” messages from Richard out there, too. (Weirdly, the tweets containing these clips do not show up on the Berlin Station official Twitter feed.) I believe that some people, who happen to be called Chris, or Matt, or Ashley, were taken aback to be addressed *personally*, and suspected some grand, evil automated advertising scheme behind this. I don’t think that is the case because ads on Twitter take the shape of a so-called “promoted tweet” and are always labelled thus underneath the tweet. This one isn’t – which means that Berlin Station are simply tweeting the content themselves. My name is not Chris, and I have seen them on my TL, too – so there is obviously no targeting based on first names either. (Which they would no be allowed to do, I think, as targeting is only allowed in an anonymous way afaik.) Whatever it is – it’s just another indication how copped on Epix’s marketing dept really is. I like what I have seen so far. I am also surprised that RA himself is throwing himself into the promotion of BS on his own Twitter account with such gusto. I doubt that an actor can be contractually obliged to tweet for promotional reasons on such a scale. The conclusion is, that RA likes his work on BS particularly, and is pushing for it to be seen as widely as possible. Imho, it is nice to see him stand over his work so proudly, eagerly promoting the s*** out of it 😉

I thought that was a picture of your home office/craft room. Only fair someone who produces such brilliant RA- related wonders should have an environment to match. The roundup was great, had a lot I hadn’t seen. Favorite was the liquor cart caper. It inspired a lot of silly scenarios in my mind.

I wish I had a massive big office like that. You should’ve seen it – in a big Georgian building, three massive windows, stucco’ed ceiling, a couple of couches in front of a massive fireplace. Not sure if I would get any work done, though…

Seeing how much promotion he’s doing for BS, the Fannibal in me is questioning why he didn’t do anything for Hannibal. Dolarhyde was quite a significant part of the latter half of season 3, yet he did almost no promotion except for a few tweets here and there. Oh and the Comic Con (But the less we say about that the better). Also, he’s not as connected to the Hannibal fandom as the rest of the cast.
Maybe flooding social media is part of his contract for BS?

Hm, I am only guessing here, but I assume that he didn’t get stuck in quite as much because he was NOT the lead of the show. His promotional activity for Hannibal was not less than what he has done so far for other projects he has been involved in. Plus, Hannibal already had a massive promo machine going, didn’t need him. When it comes to BS, he is the lead, and as such there is more at stake (for him). I doubt that an actor can be contractually obligated to post promo stuff on their PRIVATE social media platforms. So I am guessing that he feels more invested and more in charge when it comes to BS. But who knows – maybe this is just the beginning of a new era of social media promotion activity courtesy of Mr A?

Then I assume someone has told him social media promotion is a two way street. He can’t just plop his stuff, he has to also react & interact with people otherwise they’ll lose interest. From what I’ve seen thus far, he isn’t an interacter.

Was just thinking that, Yve – I am going to bed soon, knowing that there is no point in staying up and looking at the live tweeting, since I cannot share in the communal viewing experience. Not his fault, not any of the fans’ fault. But frustrating nonetheless.

Ich muss zugeben, dass mich die Premiere von BS gerade ein bisschen frustriert. Nun sitzt man mal auf der anderen Seite des Atlantik und erlebt, wie das ist, wenn man nicht dabei sein kann. Unschön. Enttäuschend. Ein wenig isoliert.

Gerade lese ich mich durch RA’s Twitter Nachrichten während “Berlin Station”. Mir ist aufgefallen, dass er zu dem Schuss auf Daniel sagt “down but not out”. (Ich glaube wenigstens, dass diese Bemerkung zu dieser Szene passen soll.) Das gibt doch reichlich Hoffnung. Vielleicht liegen wir mit unserer Weigerung zu glauben, dass er schon wieder stirbt, doch nicht so falsch.

Nach seiner eigenen Aussage wurden ja zwei Versionen des Endes gedreht. Ich nehme mal an, dass er in einer Version stirbt, in der anderen überlebt (damit er auch noch eine zweite Staffel machen kann). Wollen wir mal auf letzteres hoffen. Die Kritiken sind ja insgesamt eher durchwachsen. Hm. Trotz eigener Kritik hatte ich mir das eigentlich anders vorgestellt.
RA’s live tweeting fand ich jetzt in der Nachschau übrigens nicht so wahnsinnig interessant. Ich denke, das liegt daran, dass man eben auch live dabei sein muss, um genau zu wissen, was er eigentlich gerade kommentiert.

Live wäre das sicher interessanter gewesen. Nicht immer weiß man im Nachhinein auf was er sich bezieht. Aber neugierig war ich halt doch.
Schade, dass die Kritiken nur durchwachsen sind. Ich weiß noch nicht, ob ich die überhaupt lesen will. Tatsächlich denke ich, dass die Serie sich erst nach und nach entfalten wird. Servetus hat immer wieder auf diese Eigenheit des Autors hingewiesen und ich so hoffe ich auf die kommende Komplexität.
So früh will ich noch kein Urteil fällen.

Ja, da passt der Spruch “You should have been there” – manches kann man im Nachhinein einfach nicht mehr so richtig verstehen.
Ich setze auch darauf, dass die Serie mit der Zeit noch spannender werden und ihren Schwung finden wird. Komplex kann der Steinhauer sehr gut, und in dem Buch, das ich von ihm gelesen habe, haben mich die “twists” auch sehr überrascht. Hoffen wir mal, dass er das auch in sein Drehbuch übertragen hat.
PS: Das mit dem frühen Urteil ist so eine Sache: Gerade bei einer Serie muss eigentlich Folge 1 ein wahres Feuerwerk sein. Denn wer investiert Zeit in weitere Folgen, wenn die erste Folge nicht überzeugt? Nicht jeder Zuschauer hat weitere (niedere?) Motive, sich die Serie anzugucken – was sich in den Kritiken bisher ja auch z.T. gezeigt hat.

Es wäre *fast* eine Versuchung … wenn ich nicht schon so sehr damit beschäftigt wäre, mich bei jedem Anfall von “Eigentlich wäre dies, das und jenes eine Sache, über die du in einem Blog ausführlicher reden/maulen/schimpfen könntest, wenn du nur einen startetest!” immer wieder daran zu erinnern, dass ich sowieso meinen Krempel nicht auf die Reihe kriege, weil der Tag nur 24 Stunden hat. *seufz*
