Hooray, and welcome to the first of my Twelve Days of Christmas! As explained in yesterday’s post, I am going to raffle a few bits and pieces over the coming week and a half, some small, some a bit bigger. Let’s start with an item which I am really pleased with because it actually serves a couple of charitable purposes. Without further ado, here it comes:
~*🎄*~
Day 1 brings you a chance to win a printed, hard cover photo book of New York.
New York through the digital lens of yours truly, and all in classy b/w. The book contains 24 pages and is a standard landscape format, 10×8 in (25×20 cm), hard cover.
~*🎄*~
My video above is for the quick run-through only. If you would like to take a closer look, you can flick through the book over at Blurb, following this link or clicking on the picture below.
~*🎄*~
This book could be yours – a nice souvenir for those who have been to New York recently, too – just by leaving a comment here on this post. The raffle is open for the next 23 hours – until 7am GMT tomorrow, Dec 14, 2016. (I am shaving an hour off the response time in order to facilitate picking the winner tomorrow morning, in time for announcing the recipient of this item in tomorrow’s post for Day 2 of Twelve Days of Christmas.)
~*🎄*~
Incidentally – by enabling public viewing on Blurb, I have released the book for sale. So in case you are looking for a souvenir, or a Christmas present for someone else, you can order the book via Blurb. If you do, you will be doing good: I am pledging all profits of this photo book (as incurred until Christmas Day 2016) to charity. Disclosure: Profit on the hardback version is 5 Euro; the pdf version accrues 1.50 Euro. (The rest of the price is made up by the printing costs as charged by Blurb.) If any sales occur, these proceeds will be donated in full to Richard’s collection for homeless charity Shelter on JustGiving – which I have chosen in the spirit of the season that celebrates a man who was born homeless 2016 years ago – supposedly. Tip: Blurb regularly releases discount codes with which you can get up to 50% off your orders. Update 14/12: The last code seems to have expired (thanks to info from Jholland), so it seems as if there is no discount right now. I will update you here as soon as I know of a new promo code for “followers”.
~*🎄*~
Recap and small print: Raffle for 1 New York photo book, open to all until 7am GMT Dec 14, 2016. The raffle item will be sent anywhere in the world, no P&P costs either. My copies of the book are currently in transit, so I cannot guarantee that I will be able to send the shipment to the winner in time for Christmas. To enter the raffle, just a leave a comment below. Winner to be announced in Day 2 post of 12DX, tomorrow.
~*🎄*~
Love and best of luck to you all!
Guylty your photos are stunning! I’m not entering the raffle – just wanted to say “WOW – GORGEOUS” out loud 😀

That was in Washington Square Park – the squirrel was just there, and happily munching on the nuts, unperturbed by all the human bustle around him.
Happy memories indeed. I loved NY, and I loved the trip there. And I was happy to meet you 🙂

Tolle Fotos. 🙂 Besonders das Eichhörnchen. *g*

While you wait for me to get my next 5h+ writing in (2 pages of bullets on things to talk about so far…) please enjoy Guylty’s lovely Christmas cheer and daily presents you could win. She starts with this most gorgeous B/W photo book of NY!!! Now i’m sad i didn’t get to see more of the city! 🙂

(not entering as i’ve had enough presents from Lady Luck this year) but just wanted to say how stunning that looks! You’ve given the city a chilled out, homey feel which i know it has since so many people love calling it ‘home’ but didn’t quite get to see in the short time this trip. But it is the other side of the coin i imagined would be there. Stunning! Might treat myself to it though 🙂 (building a small xmas list for myself of things i’ve always wanted to get but never got round to)

Thank you for your lovely words, Hari. I am glad if you like it – even though your glimpse at NY was so short this time…

Passt schon so.

Genau so isses. Passt schon.

Beautiful and artistic. I’m not entering the raffle – but wow – that squirrel. Looks like he was posing for you. I also love the photo of the almost empty New York block. Well, I love them all. IMAGINE that.

Thank you Perry – that is actually some very high praise, coming from a New Yorker, who is familiar with the city, unlike me. The squirrel was just stunning – posed for quite a while for me – I admit, it may look better in colour… Thanks for commenting xx

Thank you, S. NYC is really made for b/w, so I couldn’t resist the temptation. I made another photo book (with 40 more pages *haha*) in colour for myself. This one, however, feels more raw and more New York… Since I will not come back to NYC so quickly, I had to make sure I see as much of it as I could. Hope you get back there and see it again, more easily than I. x

The book is absolutely awesome, B&W is a marvelous choice! I love to the the city through your eyes, a very talented photographer. I didn’t have time to visit many places and my own pictures are either tops of buildings either the BS advert from Times Square 🙂 “Steam”” reminds me of Monet, love your choices. Don’t put me in the raffle, I am already spoiled by your generosity. Your wonderful gift arrived today, I’m all love and tears now! Thank you so much for being the most amazing friend! X

I am so so glad that the package arrived, finally. (Sent on the 24th of November – it really took its time – I was getting so nervous…)
B/W really fits NYC – the geometry and lines really demand pared back photography, I think, because the city is an onslaught in every sense of the word. If you do have time while in NYC again, I can only recommend you go up the Empire State Building, Glady. It is open until 2am, I think, so it can even be done after evening entertainment. Plus, you beat the queues and you pay less. The view from up there is breathtaking, both night and day. Alternatively do it at sunset on a clear day – see the city bathed in pink and orange light. Amazing.
BTW – I would’ve liked to have captured the BS ad from Times Square, but I obviously didn’t have the patience to wait for it to show on the screen. Bad photographer…

I want to do NYC again, I fell in love with it in 2015. I went with my youngest daughter and her illness was just beginning (it’s stable now, but it has been worrying and I feel guilty at all the strenuous walking I made her do around Central Park).
LikeLike
Oh, I hope New York is nonetheless associated with happy memories, Yve. I am not a fan of large cities per se, but I really fell for New York very quickly… It’s a myth as much as a metropolis.
Hope your daughter’s illness continues to be manageable!!

You’ve brought the calmer pulse of The Big Apple to life in a very simple way that evokes its beauty. In that sense, your photographs make me think of Ansel Adams, who did the same thing for our National Parks here in the U.S.A.
Thanks for giving a nod to King Kong, which took me back to the movie’s classic final scene from 1933: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOq8IjDMKIw
I hope you sell many books, not only because you’re generous and caring, but because your talent deserves to be recognized. xo

Aw, thank you, Violet! xx Ansel Adams was a true master – a very inventive photographer who even came up with a technique for photographers in the day and age of analog photography to determine exposure times. His landscapes are just stunning in their deep tonality. Love them!
Thanks for linking to King Kong – there is such a wonderful innocence to that film, looking it from our perspective. The animation, the technology… And yet totally iconic. Brilliant.

These are your photos? How awesome. You have quite an eye. We were talking about your Leeds photos the other day and how you shot Mr. A from the back and were a bit disappointed that you didn’t get better shots. Little did you know you would start a whole new obsession of the back of his neck, an undersung anatomical feature until you exposed its pinkish complexity with little freckles and such.
So an entire memory book of NYC? Shot by you? That would be lovely.
LikeLike
Yup, only a small selection of my photos – only those that looked really good in b/w. (There are many more – which I didn’t convert.)
And yes, I *always* am vaguely unhappy about my shots. Probably the typical over-critical attitude of an “artist”. You are so right – the neck shot turned out into a phenomenon of its own 😉 “pinkish complexity” – love how you have phrased that.
