Welcome Back in Europe, Richard!

Richard quotes from Sophocles, Yael Farber attends an Oedipus shoot, and I have just received a confirmation of my own to say I am pretty sure that Richard is back on UK soil. The postman just delivered an envelope stamped 23 March from the UK, containing an autograph request sent to the London address.

Oooh, a gold sharpie! Matches the picture nicely…

For the letter-writers and autograph hunters among you: The request had a turn-around time of three months. I sent my letter on 19 December (just in time for Chrimbo) and the reply was sent from the UK on 23 March. (I just had a bit of a cringe moment when I checked my letter. I had taken a picture of it for my records, and *ugh* I still feel mega-awkward about writing anything to him. However, I felt that it was important to explain that the autographs are for charity auctions, and so I updated RA on the proceeds of the fundraisers so far. Just for your own info: You have already raised a total of USD$6100 so far. Certainly NOT cringe-worthy, that!)

So, anyway, welcome back to Europe, Rich. We’re happy to have you, and Berlin is currently putting on really nice weather for your arrival! 21°C/70°F forecast for next weekend. Better get your peaches ass to Berlin, quick! And thank you loads for granting me the request for autographs. That is much appreciated, and will hopefully enable your fans to support more good causes, soon.

Most fondly yours,

Guylty ❤️

    • Thanks Grati – all credit to the bidders and buyers. And ha – since my very own off-spring completely ignored Mother’s Day yesterday, I had forgotten that it was on – and that RA might be there just to cheer up his mum with pretty face. If true, then sweet indeed 🙂

  1. I know the feeling when you think about the letters sent for someone you admire but there’s nothing cringe-worthy in your charity auctions. Well done, fandom and you.

Just as a side note I wanted to thank you again for the Emergency-RAPS you made last spring. Today is the Anniversary of my mother’s passing and since I always carry the E-RAPS in my bag it came handy again ❤ (I'll probably be needing it again tomorrow as we must take our ~21-y-o-kitty to the vet for her last trip..)

    • I’m butting in to say I want to send you a big hug because I lost my mother too and it’s hard. So, yes, I pray you receive comfort today from someone who loves you. As for your kitty, it’s a terrible thing, indeed, and I’m sorry for both of you. *more hugs*

    • Oh no, the charity auctions are not cringe-worthy at all. I completely agree with you on that, Susanna! Cringe-worthy is my stilted attempt at remaining politely admiring in my fan mail. And the awkwardness stems from my resistance to disclosing my identity.
Is it already a year since your mother passed? I am so sorry if it is bringing back sad memories. (((hugs))) But if the E-RAPS glosses over the sadness a bit, then it fulfills its function. So sad to hear you have to send your kitty on her last journey. (I am feeling really choked-up, writing this.) It is hard to say good-bye to a beloved pet who has been part of your life for so long. But you will be doing the right thing, sparing her the pain… She’ll be hunting – and catching – mice over the rainbow, forever… xx

  2. I absolutely love that autograph written in ‘gold’; hope you raise a good chunk of money for it. Also, does this mean shooting for BS 2 will begin soon? I’m a little worried that – once again – Daniel won’t be the main character; that we’ll get an ensemble piece. Not that I dislike the other actors; here in ‘America’, we are accustomed to seeing one person be the ‘star’ of the show.

Und hast du mit deinem Geraffel ernsthaft schon unfassbare 6.100 US Dukaten eingefahren? Das ist schon ein erster Schritt zur Seligsprechung 😂 Mutter Guylty übernehmen Sie 😇

    • LOL – Mutter Guylty *rofl*.

Ah, I got stamps from Veloce and it’s about time to write him myself. But knowing me, it will take at least 20 tries before I will have something meaningful and coherent written down to be sent out.

  5. Thanks for the information! I do have a question for you. I sent RA a gift (book) delivered to the theater in NYC. I know it was delivered to him. I hadn’t really expected anything back, but everyone is talking about received stuff from him. I did put my address on the letter that I enclosed, but did not include a SASE with it. (I didn’t want to appear that I was requesting a “thank you” for my gift. Should I expect to receive a thank you note, or just continue knowing he received the book and let that be enough? Thank you for your help. Dele

    • Hey Dele – my understanding is, that you will only get a reply if you actually request an autograph AND enclose the stamps. It’s been ages since I heard of anyone receiving an “unrequested” reply – there are probably too many gifts and letters for him to acknowledge them all… So, in my case, I only received a letter back because I had sent photos to his agents for him to sign, and enclosed a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Other than that, there was no acknowledgment that he received/read my accompanying letter. (Which is fine; I did not expect a note.) So the upshot is – I don’t think you can expect a reply, but you can probably rest assured that he received your gift!

      • Thank you, Guylty for getting back to me. If I feel the desire to write him again I’ll consider whether I want him to answer or not. I am quite all right with his just receiving my gift and letter!

        • Good to know that you are not disappointed. I always think the worst thing about sending presents (to anyone) is, not knowing whether they have arrived or not. He always stresses how pleased he is with receiving gifts, so I am sure he appreciated yours, too.

    • Confirming Guylty’s remark that it’s been years since I’ve heard of someone who got a thank you note back. At least three, possibly five in my case.

  6. This certainly is the nicest way of tracking whereabouts 😉 and the numbers are fantastic! Glad around me we’re never far from one action or another. It’s always good to be reminded people are still good at heart. And nice signature indeed.
Nice to know he might have seen mum 😊 is always a pretty big deal round here. Was out Sunday and there were families out everywhere and mums with flowers. Nice though it always reminds me of being far and not being able to just pop over.
As to BS wait and see i guess but the promo stuff made a huge deal out if the station chief…. tbh don’t think we can expect dynamics to change fundamentally but hopefully in the time allocated to him we’ll get a bit more insight into character if by nothing else than virtue of little bits accumulating

    • Yes, lovely signature – colour matched 😉
Mother’s Day – that only occurred to me afterwards, that he may have been in the UK for that. I totally forgot – because my “dear” kids completely ignored the day even though I made a couple of snide remarks. Hmph. I mean, I don’t expect presents or flowers. I agree that the occasion is artificial and only a half-arsed attempt to acknowledge the contribution of mothers to family life etc. But I would have liked somebody at least *say* “Happy Mother’s Day”. Instead, when I complained, I was told that everyday is Mother’s Day. Ok…
BS: Well, yes, a new station chief. Let’s see how well Daniel works under a woman. Ahem. In some respects he works pretty well “under” a woman *coughs*

      • Ah yes pretty well indeed though I’d rather he ‘stick’ to Esther…
Ah every day is it? So they wash the dishes do the laundry and help with cleaning every day do they? Maybe you should remind them 😀 teenagers hmm.

        • I really had been looking forward to new relationship dynamics with Esther. But well, at least the writers are surprising us…
Teenagers indeed. It’s pretty easy when mama expresses criticism of Mother’s Day. It absolves them from spending any thought on acknowledging the work that is being done for them…

  7. Speaking of good efforts there is a ‘have a full English with 7 Drs’ thing going on and yes that is 7 DR Whos! Including of course the last 3 all at once. How amazing! Its an auction but also raffle for just £5 per tkt. Made me think of T 😊 and even i am tempted! Think I’ll buy some tkts just for fun. Tennant came to say hi on red nose day straight from theatre… almost totally expected in his case. He was totally excited about the idea it’s what always gets me with the Drs how fond they always remain about the whole thing and permanently into it 😊

Happy belated Mother’s Day for those in the Northern Hemisphere. Our Mum’s Day is in May.

    • Yep. Now I only have to wait for another occasion to put on an auction…
German Mother’s Day is in May, too. Maybe my kids will decide to acknowledge the occasion then? They completely ignored last Sunday…

  9. I think your tracking skills rivals a bloodhound’s. I like to know where he is and what he is up to. Sad to say I lost my cringe-worthy gene shortly after conception. You know if something RA related might cause involuntary cringing in a normal person, I am immune. I’ll be happy to take over any potentially embarrassing tasks for you. No charge.

    • Yup, that should have been going on in London. But I just saw that pictures have surfaced of him at the Berlin Station table-read in Berlin. Either ‘My Zoe’ is already done, or it is another project that has been scrapped before it began… I was searching for it the other day, but I found no references to it being shot in London at all…

      Like

      • There was never any evidence I saw that it was actually shooting. I think they attached his name to it in order to attract a buyer at the EFM. Maybe they didn’t find one, because we didn’t see another report after that. Or maybe they did but time was too short?

        Like

        • That’s what I meant – I didn’t find any reference to the shoot anywhere. Moreover, I was surprised to see a tweet by Luke Evans the other day, together with Daniel Brühl on a project in Budapest – whom I would have expected to be filming the Delpy film in London… So another no-show for Richard??? 😦

  10. That picture is absolutely gorgeous and the signature…all I can say is that you are so lucky to get them! It’s so nice that he knows you use them for a good cause! I’m patiently – maybe not so patiently 🙂 -waiting for my turn.

    • I was really really happy to receive my photos back with his signature. I wouldn’t say that he is endorsing my fundraising efforts as such, but I did mention in my letter what I was doing with the signatures, so if he read the letter, then he knows and at least does not mind me using his autographs as charity items…
When did you send your letter? If he is now in Berlin, then it’s likely he did his fan mail before he left the UK, and your letter may turn up, soon, too.

The same sharpie, the golden one. I sent him two pictures, one with John Proctor and one with Kenneth. I am really happy and I thank you a 1000000 times, this little miracle was possible because of you! Love you dearly! And I love him dearly too!

        • Fantastic news, Glady. So glad that you received your autograph requests, too. It seems to me that RA had scheduled in a whole day for autograph requests and correspondence, worked through it all in one setting, and then had his slaves send it off at the same time. The clue is in the gold Sharpie…
And hey, I have no role in this. You wrote a request, and he signed the pictures. xx

  11. There was a turn around of much the same time when I received my signed pic – sent early December and received April iirc. I actually forgot I had sent the request, had deliberately put it out of my mind so that I wouldn’t count too much on hearing back, so was very excited to get it. 🙂

    • That’s actually the best possible experience ;-). I tend to forget that I have sent off for autographs, too, and when the envelope finally arrives back, it usually gives me a real jolt of pleasant excitement ⚡️⚡️
