I am equally excited as well as hesitant about today’s raffle object. Those who follow me on Twitter might have seen the picture I posted last night of the crafty mess on my table. Well, I was working on a truly one-off object. I suspect this is not to everyone’s taste. It’s bling, and it’s big, but it is truly unique. And it may especially appeal to the Thornton admirers amongst you… Without further ado, here it is:
This is a bib necklace, designed and assembed by yours truly. No precious metals, but precious thoughts, maybe? This is your chance to have Mr Thornton very close to your heart… Here are some details (you can click on the images to enlarge):
There’s much to discover on this necklace, and I can tell you that bib necklaces *always* get a lot of attention. (I have a steampunk bib necklace which attracts comment every time I wear it.) Have you not? I’m afraid the trend may already be slightly over… I have had my steampunk bib necklace for several years. But I think it still works as a statement piece.

Exactly – the fun is in looking closely at the necklace, and in discovering the story hidden within. Yellow roses, Mr Thornton’s profile, a couple of wedding rings, a blue book with “N&S” on the cover… it may seem obvious for us, but not for everyone. Which makes it all the more amusing to wear, I think…

Yep, the assembled bits and pieces from all sorts of sources. I should’ve mentioned that, actually – the large majority of my material comes from my fandom friends who have kindly gifted me many bits and pieces for my shrine-making endeavours. They also work for the necklace…

This is amazing. What a work of art to place Mr. Thorton into. It is simply dripping with Victorian extravagance and frippery. It looks to me like a few N & S shrines got together and exploded into this magnificent creation. How fun. Someone will be very lucky to win it.

Victorian. That was one of the thoughts in my head when I made this. The lace, the cameos, the little frame. I like the idea of a shrine exploding – or maybe imploding and more or less becoming 2D?

Aw thanks, Debra… glad you like it. I’m afraid I am not the originator of the idea. If you google “statement necklace” or “bib necklace”, you’ll find lots of examples online. Mind you, I don’t think I have seen any such necklaces yet that actually have a theme… Niche in the market? Next thing, I’ll start an online shop on Etsy 😉

With all those little bits and pieces that I have been sent by my fandom friends, those statement pieces more or less assemble themselves. It’s just a matter of compiling all the matching bits and then shuffling them around on a plate until I find I combination that works 🙂

Inspiration is anywhere, Riepu! It more or less came to me in a shop where I bought those itsy-bitsy golden frames. I immediately knew that I was going to put a silhouette of Mr Thornton in it. After that it was just a question of figuring out what to attach the frame to.

Oh, thanks L! I must say I am thoroughly enjoying my current creative flash. I don’t always make time for it, but the more I do it, the easier the ideas flow. So that’s it, basically: give creativity a try, and practice – and it becomes easier over time.
