Next up is today’s raffle.

We’re beginning to run out of place for those decorations on the image… Talking of decorations, though… Remember the little hanging frame decorations and the snowball? Well, today’s rafffle prizes are a mixture of the two.

I found these cutesy little photo decorations which are filled with lots of glitter and stars, and I couldn’t resist them. There is something incredibly satisfying about shaking the decorations and seeing the glitter flitter all over the photo, only to settle back down again. It’s hard to describe it, so I made a little video:

Sorry about the massive size of it on WordPress – I’m not sure how to adjust that. But anyway, you get the drift. I chose photos from a series of shots by David Venni from way back in prehistory, because they had a glitter background that was fitting, and because one of my forever-favourites of RA are from that series. However, my printer has been playing up and decided to only print with a festive pinegreen tint. Hmph. (Cf. what I said up there about errors that were slowing me down today.) Sorry. Good news is that you can swap the pictures out of the frames. The pictures are easily removable, and the silver passepartout can be reused.

The other piece of good news is: There are 5 of these frames, and therefore I am extending the raffle to 5 winners today. So one of these frames each will be raffled among the entrants.

Lastly, I am psyching myself up for a week-long visit of mother dear. She will be celebrating Christmas here with us – which is nice. But experience from the previous years tells me that cabin fever is going to set in on day 4 the latest. Wish me luck!

  1. Good luck for Christmas with your mother. I am extremely grateful I only have to see mine for a few hours at a time. I’m very happy to see her, but equally happy to leave.

    • Thanks Hobbit. Yep, I often wonder whether it would be easier between me and my mum if we were living in the same town and we could see each other for short periods of time only – but frequently… Nevertheless, I have to say that I *do* look forward to having her back tonight…

    I understand about your mom. We are leaving within the hour to go home through Tuesday and we’ll be on each other’s nerves by then. Big time. Either she’ll have something to say about my clothes, or the fact I brought the computer and won’t watch NCIS with her. It’s just a no-win.

  5. Merry Christmas everyone, I am still unsure who is coming to lunch on Christmas day the invites were given but I am still wondering! I think I would like to go away one year. LOL
    We have been invited out on the 29th and New Years Day so lots to look forward to.

    • Has the invitee issue cleared up? That’s slightly unnerving, not knowing how many people are going to turn up…
      And yes, that would be an interesting thing to do, going away for the Christmas celebrations. Despite having spent years abroad as a student, and then moving abroad as an adult, I spent all my Christmasses with my parents/now my mum.

  7. Congrats to ValsGal. It’s almost like your printer knew these were for Christmas! I like the festive green with the sparkles too. Actually, RA looks good in any color. I hope things go well with your mother. At 96, my mother has let go of her negativity of the past and has simply just become a sweet dear. Merry Christmas 🎄❤️

    • You’re right, Donna – the green works well with the foliage. Not sure how nice it looks otherwise, but whoever will win these, can always replace the images with better prints.
      And wow – your mum is 96! That’s a tremendous age. And I’m glad to hear that she has mellowed. There is hope yet 😉

    And as for your Mom — try to enjoy your time together. Christmas will never be quite the same when she’s gone. Mine used to drive us to distraction – she was the *hardest* person to buy for – but I miss her presence every year.

    • You are so right, Lady! I really need to remember that every time I’m about to explode. I should take a step back and just remember that I am privileged to have her. I know I will miss her dearly once she is gone. Mind you, I think I’ll have her for a good long time yet. She had me young, and when she is 85 and needs looking after, I will be 65 myself *eeeek*. No rest…

    You have so nice ideas, RA in festive glitter frame, cute.
    Some Moms are a little special, including mine. After one day in harmony we have different opinions and the discussions start. But she is a great Grandma. So I wish you peaceful holidays with your family

      Same here re. mums and grandmas. She’s so much more tolerant and relaxed with her grandchildren. I am very happy for them!

    • Congrats! I’ll be glad if you still like it when you see it in RL 😁. I put it into the post this afternoon, and I have high hopes that it will travel to California pretty quickly. For some reason, mail to the West coast always is faster than to the centre of the country…
      As for RA being faceed with necklace and bag – haha, I doubt he would notice 😉 You are safe!

    These are wonderful ornaments! So sparkly and festive!
    Good luck with your Mom. I know sometimes they can be a real pain (mine was, too!) but try to be tolerant. Believe me, when she is gone there will be a huge hole in your heart. I would dearly love to have mine back to at least give her one last hug. Holidays are sure not the same without her or my Dad. Make treasured memories while you can. You won’t be sorry.

    • You are absolutely right, Debra. I need to cherish the time I have with her, especially since we are living so far apart. I know that she finds that very hard, and even harder since my dad has been gone. Sigh, I wish family relations were not so difficult. I do love my mum, and she has always been the best of mothers. Really no complaint. And yet, she drives me up the wall sometimes…

    • I’m really glad you enjoyed the daily raffles. It’s just a little extra fun at a time of year that most of us find very stressful – the run-up to Christmas, with so many things to do and organise.

  20. Happy Christmas to one and all! I haven’t been commenting although I have been reading all the posts. Hearty Congratulations to all the winners! 🙂 As I have been the recipient of previous gifts I felt greedy posting comments before as I feel so blessed by the things I already own – BUT these glittery frames and the handsome image contained in them have prompted me to change my mind.;)

    Although I share a house with my daughter and her husband and their three daughters (all in their twenties) I have my own “granny flat” as some call it so feel I have the best of both worlds. I’m very thankful to have very good relationships with all of my family and at nearly 80 years old (I still can hardly believe it) I hope I still have a number of years to enjoy them. We have a lot of fun together which makes all the difference.

    The very best of good wishes for 2018 to you all!

      And wow – that sounds like a lovely set-up in your home, having your daughter near *and* granddaughters. Despite my complaining about my mum, I actually do wish we were living closer to each other. I think, things would be easier then.

      • I moved away from my hometown the day I got married then a number of years later we came to Canada. Sadly, my Mum passed away 5 years later without ever seeing her 5 grandchildren again. As I was an only child these were her only grandchildren. I will always feel bad about that, although she had encouraged us to take the opportunity! Thankfully I was able to make a trip back to see her myself when she wasn’t so well – thanks to dear friends who paid my fair! I often wish she was around to see how the seven who moved here have grown to around 40 with more weddings to come! Sorry! Much too verbose! 😉

  23. Good luck with your Mum! I still live with mine so I’m thankful that she is the best. Her mother however… well let’s just say Christmas arguments are normally her fault although the blame always gets put onto someone else!
