RA Pocket Shrine 148/? – Eargasm

I am in celebratory mood this morning. It’s weigh-in day, and I have just broken my first milestone, which makes me very, very happy. My click finger is itching really badly… (I’ll spare you the diet talk; if you want to read why I’m ready to click, check my post on RABBBWW.) Moreover, I found out last night that my job at my English client is being significantly consolidated. When they suggested that my workload be increased, they asked me the most dreaded of all questions: “What would you charge for that?” Typical woman, I find it very difficult to sell myself, and after much deliberation I finally told them that if they double my workload, I’d expect to be paid double. The fee has been accepted. I’m very happy.

Buoyed by all that, the celebratory mood extends into my RActivities. After much clicking and searching on Audible’s website yesterday (my audio and ad recommendations will be f*cked forever…), Richard’s latest audio work has just been released. Despite mild reservations, Wanderlust has already been downloaded into my audio library. I totally admit it here: I am a bit of a fan whore. I’ll give everything a try, as long as Richard is in it. 😁 I haven’t had the opportunity to listen yet, but even if this turns out to be trash, at least it will provide me with 8 hours and 48 minutes of audio distraction on the daily power walk that I needed an incentive to get into. That could be split into 12 acoustically enhanced daily walks. That’s taking Wanderlust literally – I can’t wait!

So, yeah, even before the release of Wanderlust I had decided to mark Richard’s departure into the light *coughs* genre with a small little shrine. Note: This is definitely going to be SFW, despite the expected eargasm… Yeah, well, whatever gets the muse going. I can’t really choose. It either happens – or it doesn’t. But lately it has been happening in full swing. Since making this shrine, I have already finished two more. Hooray! So here we go…

This one was made with Richard’s latest audio release in mind. You wouldn’t necessarily think so from the outside of the shrine:

Just some love hearts. For those who ❤ ❤ ❤ audiobooks. And the man who reads them.

There’s Richard reading in his little love booth… What you can’t see, is the decoration ‘inside his audio booth’ – the various covers of the audio work he has done to date. I think this calls for a video intervention…

So yes, all of this work, read by *that* voice, can be considered a…

Richard as reader. Definitely worth a little shrine. Even without a candle.

This little shrine needs a new home. Any audio lovers out there? Leave me a comment and you are in the raffle. I’ll (virtually) draw a name from the hat on Wednesday, 7 February, 3pm GMT.

As for Wanderlust – have you splashed out and downloaded it? Looking forward to hearing your views on it.

  1. I still have at least three of his audiobooks to buy, I’m considering to get an audible subscription so I can get them with the credits. 3-4 months of Audible still should be less than buying the three audiobooks without subscription.

    • That’s how I have bought it, Eugeal. I signed up for the subscription for Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde last year, and have been collecting my credits since then. So I am able to get Wanderlust for free, as well as The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

Das ist der, der im Öhrli böhrt.
Himmel, dass ich diesen sauschlechten Kalauer jemals noch an den Mann bringen würde 😁

  3. Gorgeous RAPS! Very ingenious and creative tucking all those titles around the side!
I had pre-ordered Wanderlust, and when I checked my account first thing this morning it stated the book would be in my library 6-8pm AEST. It is now after 11pm and I have been in Audible chat asking why there is still no sign of it. After all, it has been the 6th Feb longer here in Australia than the UK and the US where it’s already available! Apparently I won’t get it until tomorrow now. I grumbled that it was pointless giving the customer an actual time the title would land in their library when the normal procedure meant that they wouldn’t meet that deadline anyway.

    • Grah, I hate such promises that are then only applicable to certain (=core) territories. You are absolutely right to complain. Hopefully the audiobook will make its way into your library soon. I have downloaded it already. And got quite a fright when it suddenly started playing automatically without me clicking play. Boom, Mr A’s voice in my living room *eeek*

      • Our new car has Bluetooth (no more CDs!) and it still surprises me when the current audiobook starts up as soon as it makes contact with my phone. Am off to the city on Friday and not sure if driving with RA reading Wanderlust will be the safest choice, perhaps I should stick to Liane Moriarty or Jane Austen 😉

  4. This little shrine is one of my favorites that i’ve seen that you’ve done. What a tease…that Neck. I could lose myself exploring that neck…*giggles*

  5. Absolutely gorgeous shrine! Once again 🙂 I have listened first 10 chapters of Wanderlust and I’m not sure do I like it or not. Richard in amazing as always, but Grace Grant’s character is too annoying. And maybe it isn’t the best thing to listen to this at work.

    • After 4 chapters, I am definitely still at the “I can take it or leave it” stage. I.e. it hasn’t been gripping.
I am not sure that NOT listening at work makes the audio book more attractive. I listened to it on a long walk, and I had trouble keeping my attention on what I was listening to.

  6. 🎤 Love is in the air…💕 Love this pocket shrine with the hearts encasing the heartthrob! 😍

I can’t bring myself to start the audiobook. Right now I’m re-reading A Discovery of Witches, which I adore!

      • You nailed it 😉. And besides there´s nothing wrong with an eyegasm. Although e.g. that Wolverine snippet was – just wow, really eargasm. But I don´t know whether I will ever change over to audio books. I like reading books but prefer them the good old-fashioned way on paper. I´d say I´m more of a haptic person and like to possess things and be able to touch them. Apart from this I just don´t know how I could integrate audio books in my daily life and find the time to listen.

  7. I can’t buy any of the recent audio books for now – saving for his theater appearance, hopefully, this year. That will have to wait until July, when I won’t be having stretched finances XD.

And this shrine is delicious *swoon* (I am still in awe of his Wolverine, excuse me 😀 )

    • I think you have got your priorities right! A theatre visit is definitely worth it.
Oh and Wolverine blew me away. I am not a connoisseur of that particular series at all, but boy, am I hooked. That teaser has definitely got me going!

  8. It would be a pleasure for me to give the little shrine a new home. It is so lovely inside as well as outside. So sweet with all the little details on the inner sides.
I don’t often listen to audiobooks,

  9. Nice shrine! love the little pictures of his older work. I just can’t find a suitable part of my day to listen to his audio books so as much as I like your shrine this is not an entry, I hope a true audio lover wins it! x

    • Thanks, austoz!
I find it difficult to fit in the audio stuff, too. At least when it comes to long works like this. I need to schedule walks in order to actually listen properly. So yeah, if anything, Wanderlust at least gets me out of the house…

  10. Congrats for both the milestone and the job news, both really fantastic and important things! Well done 😊 really pretty shrine! Though this is not an entry i for one really like and enjoy his audio work. And the more i listen the more i appreciate him as a narrator. I’m glad I’ve found my way back to more books both paper and audio as I’d forgotten how much i like to drift away in a story. And its de- stressing effect is much longer lasting than a show or the like. This won’t be jumping my listening cue but I’ll get to it in 1-2 books. The current one i really love the story and characters although the narrator is not nearly as good as RA. Feels like in this he’s more reader than narrator, which is how i felt about Love Poems too by the way. I’m much more curious and excited about Wolverine! But not everything has to be memorable 😊 not every show is mind blowing, not every TV program is a hit. It’s only a couple of hours 🙂 Suspect in current awful weather it will take me about a week. Too bad the weather is not more forgiving as i certainly have more than enough material lined up for longer journeys.

    • I think that is an interesting point, reader vs. narrator. I’m going to continue the audio book later on my next walk, and I’ll listen out for that, too.
And yes, it has actually hit me as a big surprise how much I loved the Wolverine teaser yesterday. I suspect that is not only because it is a franchise with a big name (and even *I* know something about the character although I have never watched any of the films) but because Logan as a character already provides some obvious opportunities for full-on voice acting. I’m really looking forward to Wolverine – even more so than Tattooist, actually. And that really surprises me…

  11. Absolutely *love* your latest shrine! I’m a huge audio book fan and listen to one or other of RA’s audio books every night once I’m settled in bed. Now that I have to sleep on my back (by necessity not by choice) reading in bed is just not possible. I’ve been an Audible subscriber for a few years now so usually have a few credits I can use if he narrates a new book. I still can’t understand how I am able to buy the whole “Monster Collection” but not just Jekyll and Hyde on its own but as I got it for free I can’t really complain! There are some of his books not available in Canada and that *does* tick me off!!! Maybe I’ll check into Wanderlust if I feel brave enough! 😉

    • Oh, glad to hear you are an audio book enthusiast and the shrine appeals to you, Teuchter. As you describe it, listening to audio books sounds like a real alternative to reading in bed.
Yeah, the Monster Collection pricing/release was weird. I got it for free because I signed up for Audible for it. But I really didn’t want the whole thing, either…
I haven’t reached the threatened meaty bits yet, so not sure whether courage is needed 😉

  12. Cheers to you for your perseverance! Reaching your first milestone plus getting the recognition of your value at work is cause for much celebration. Congrats! The shrine is really sweet and the special surprise audiobook titles are brilliant. I think I’ve listened to almost all of his audio work now except for a couple of the Robin Hood episodes. I hesitate on Wanderlust for the time being. I’m more excited to get the Martian Invasion and Wolverine when they come out. I really love his audio work. Sometimes I revisit some of his earlier narration and I’m amazed at how much richer his performances have become.

    • Thank you, Donna 😘. I’m chuffed with myself, if I may say so myself, and I treated myself to some retail therapy yesterday. (Alas, not what I had set my heart on – but that’s another story…)
I haven’t really listened to all of RA’s audio work, either. Biggest omission: Romeo & Juliet. I have this weird feeling of resistance and unwillingness in me because I was annoyed with RA and Hewson about their pronouncements of Juliet in the Audible interview. As if two middle-aged men can truly understand the workings of a teenage girl’s mind. I found them so patronising in that interview when they talked about Juliet, despite all their praise for her. It’s a “who do they think they are???”-reaction that I haven’t yet been able to overcome.
Interesting comment on his development as an audio performer. I must listen into LotN for comparison, too.
