RA Pocket Shrine #167 to #174/? – Auction Thank You Minis

I am thoroughly frustrated and need to cheer myself up with a self-indulgent shrine post. The reason for my frustration: I have been working on that long-promised *ooof* for several days now, and now that I am finally ready to upload it, I find that the migration of files to my new Macbook has somehow meant that I lost the edited image I need to illustrate the post. Grah. So there, instead I am going to post some feel-good pictures of a little surprise I rustled up for the kind donors of items to the last RA birthday auctions. The packages with the thank you gifts were sent a couple of weeks ago. I am not sure whether they have reached everyone yet or whether the mail service continues to give me grief, but I just need this now.

You’ve already had a little teaser a while back. But now is the time to see what’s inside these minis.

Colourful and miniscule, these vintage-style mint tins are just too cute. I couldn’t tell you which one I love best, and when I put them in the packages for the recipients, I did not choose them specifically for the individual owners. They are matching mini RAPSes that all convey the same message – a thank you and a dreamy greeting.

Let’s have a closer look – in a slide show.

The quote comes from one of my favourite poems, He wishes for the cloths of heaven, by W.B. Yeats. The poems came back to me when I recently re-visited Yeats’s grave in Drumcliff churchyard in Co. Sligo on Ireland’s West coast on a quick stop while travelling with Linda60.

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Kind of fitting for the fragile fan girl heart? It really built on the idea of creating a series of mini shrines that would all have an image of a chaRActer lying in bed – in order to keep the proper orientation of the RAPS with the mint tin lid on top and the container bottom at the bottom. (Usually, my RAPSes work the other way round, with the lid of the tin used as the bottom – in order to create more depth for the diorama top of the shrine that is meant to be opened up and sit vertically.)

So, a last thank you to all item donors. I hope this gift will make it easier for you having parted with the fabulous items that made so much money in our fundraiser.

Hooray – I better update my shrine gallery now 😁

  1. They are all beautiful and creative (and Richard is clad w stubble or clean shaven hehehe) and crafted with such care by you. So one technical and dumb question I have is for your oof piece does that mean the image or whatever that did not transfer over to the new MacBook is lost forever or saved somewhere in an elusive Cloud or something similar?
P.S. The poem is beautiful, made me tear up, very appropriate for the mini shrines.

    • Yep, I kind of insist on a bit of stubble!RA for these things… just because I have artistic license 😉
As for the pictures – well, I made it sound worse than it is. I can find the picture online again, but I will have to put my edit lines on them again because I lost the edited version of the original…

      • Oh yes artistic license indeed!! The straddled out chestage ones are particular captivating. I did see the last shrine has him in pea coat and bearded so yeah!!! I love the revolving pictures! To me very high tech!!!

  2. These are so wonderful! Your talents never cease to amaze me, dear G. And that poem is indeed perfect. Our hearts can be rather fragile, can’t they? Definitely a theme in that work I’ve mentioned and oft-neglected.

I hope that soon you’ll no longer be forced to sing the technology blues. We need our wondrous genius happy, not struggling with undeserved agita.

    • The tech blues is ongoing. Some things just got lost in migration… But well, everything is replaceable, somehow.
I take it that you have not received a little package, either…?

I swear, I am the luckiest de-lurker in the history of lucky de-lurkers. Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!

I am in especial need of this beautiful gift this week so I really do appreciate your kindness and talent.

  3. Not to disrespect your shrines, but since that confessions website seems to be out of business these days, my I share my most recent recurring “dream” about RA. Not in my bed. You know that BS shot of him sitting on a couch, wearing his little black undershorts, looking at a paper or something? My dream is that I walk into my living room, and there he is. Sitting on my couch. Looking like…that. Feel free to use!

      • What episode was that scene when he is hunched over w the papers?
That site is so cool! I love the doggy coming in to scoop up the cat to break up a potential fight!

              • Exactly!!! I’m keen now to just watch his eyes and his hands in action since I’ve seen BS1 like 5 times already. I will admit S2 with the Neo-Nazi and fascism aspect is tough to watch even knowing Trevor aka Daniel is undercover but I like that Daniel was humanized in S2 and well I know you are not a fan but that beard is just wowwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!thump thump thump…

                  • Hahaha I think you are getting outnumbered here!!! We will convert you yet!!! I agree Daniel was more visible and compelling even humanized if that’s the right word (it’s early here and my coffee hasn’t quite kicked in) esp with Esther. I miss Daniel talking German even Valerie spoke more German than Daniel did in S2. Part of the charm of S1 was the intermix of German culture and language in the story line. I think the writers/showrunners whoever was in charge turned the series more political in S2 which can be good and did make Daniel less stoic (stony hmmm) and gave him empathy and emotional depth.

                    • Yep, totally outnumbered. Which is why I need to establish a beard-safe place somewhere, so I can dream without distraction 😉.
Agree with you on the deplorable lack of more German language interaction by Daniel in S2. OTOH, I was slightly critical of his accent in S1, so chances are that it might have spoiled my fun…

                    • Yeah actually I thought Richard playing w an American accent whose character is half German speaking German wasn’t that bad even though I see your point bec he had that dialect coach there to help him refine it. I think if he had spoken German continuously off hours and (maybe he did?) the naturalness of the dialect would have come out better? I thought the little boy Max was cute in starting off in German I think when they were eating the choc ice cream which Daniel clearly understood what Max was saying then Patricia telling Max “Auf Englisch” and Richard as Daniel chuckling maybe that was ad libbed a bit?

                      Like

                    • His German definitely got better the longer he was using it… that’s kind of a truism, I guess. The more practice one has, the better it gets.
I don’t really think that “Max” and Richard were ad libbing – I actually thought it was a bit of an unexplained inconsistency in the script. Daniel grew up in Germany with a German mother, speaking German. His cousin Patricia is German, too, so it is likely that the two of them “know each other” through the German language. I know from experience with two bilingual children that it is rather unlikely that they switch languages. The language of communication is not based on circumstance but on the person they speak with, and once one particular language is established between two people, they stick with that and are very reluctant to switch. Of course, the series was primarily made for the English-speaking market, so they had to have the characters speak English – but in terms of authenticism it didn’t make sense that native speaker Daniel spoke English with his German cousin – and poor Max was used as an excuse for them speaking English…

                    • Yep that makes total sense then they completely went off script in S2 when Daniel didn’t speak any German not even w Esther. I loved the tet a tet between the lovebirds in S1 esp if they
                      would converse auf Deutsch!!!

                    • 😉🤔hmmm I think you are being rather kind there and I agree w your assessment. I will be curious to see what happens to Daniel in S3 American accent and disappearing German speaking or what little we will probably see of him 😫😭

                    • Yep, I am not expecting much, if only to minimise the disappointment… For his sake, I hope that he has something cool up his sleeve. I really want to watch him in something great again.

                    • Yes fingers crossed that he is negotiating something huge now or spending time w his dad and brother
w something huge brewing. Hopefully not MCU but that seems to be the trend now. I’m sure he’s in a pissy mood too w the council people voting to proceed w the speed track thingy.
P.S. you are up late no? Hope no insomnia not good to have believe me although you would probably make great use of the time as immensely creative as you are 👍👏

  5. I’m amazed how you can take inspiration from a favorite poem and translate it into the theme of a brilliant little collection of shrines. These are all just wonderful and I’m so pleased to have been a “Lucky” recipient of one of them. I’m convinced that this little thank you RAPS was just the extra luck that helped get the second Guy 2 in 1 shrine to me safely. Thanks for all the Guy goodness and for your kindness. ❤️

    • Inspiration strikes in mysterious ways, doesn’t it? I’m not even a massive fan of W.B. Yeats and his Celtic mysticism, but this is my favourite poem from his oeuvre.
That was definitely a LUCKY little box… not only did it make sure that the package arrived safely, it also made the journey much faster than I had thought. So glad it all arrived!

  6. In fact, I saw your post yesterday. But it was too late to write how much I like your mini RAPSes. All are really stunning. ❤ I couldn't choose the most beautiful one. But you know what, I do not have to. 🙂 Today, the postman brought me a package with the most beautiful RAPS. ❤ ❤ ❤ Claude Becker on the beach … hmm .. what a beautiful dream. 😉 Thank you very much, Guylty!

    • Even at the time of posting, I was slightly sorry about taking the surprise away… I usually only post the shrines *after* the surprise has arrived at the recipient, but this time I just couldn’t wait 😉 Glad if you like Claude-in-a-sandbox 😉

  7. These little treasures are wonderful. I love the outsides almost as much as the insides. I would love to offer someone a mint and give them a peek at lovely RA instead. Both are delicious, but only one can freshen your breath. However, the pleasant side effects created by ogling RA can’t be overestimated.
