2018 Armitage Weekly Round-up #35

This might very well be the last round-up of the year. The festivities are coming, and I will be travelling a tiny bit “in between the years”, as we say in German – between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Since London was such a great hit with my mum in April this year, I have decided to take her to Belfast for a couple of days. She has been there already, of course. There is hardly a place in Ireland she *hasn’t* been to yet. Years of visiting her ex-pat daughter mean she has travelled all over the island – without me, I hasten to say. But Belfast is a big city, and there are plenty of cafés and restaurants and shops to keep us busy for a couple of days. And I look forward to spending a bit of time alone with my mum again.

But anyway, after all the excitement of this week (Tweet/Deletes, Q&As and Xmas Messages), the big news on tumblr was – the fact that the new adult content guidelines have come into effect. And I am not sure whether that means lots of stuff has been deleted, but the timeline just looks weird. There is all sorts of Hannibal/Red Dragon stuff in there – which is already several years old at this stage… Tbh, the whole guideline change may have repercussions for this weekly round-up, too. It looks as if tumblr will never be the same again. We’ll see how it develops. Here’s this week’s round-up:

  2. A new tumblr call rcrispina has been born that focuses on Richard’s characters – but expressly states it will not objectify his RL persona. Aha. Ok.

At the end of this I also want to update you that Flat Richie is already on the road again. He only stopped over for one night with Helen and is now on his way to the next destination. I’ve been quiet the last couple of days – getting ready for my mum’s visit. But after a final big translation job today I am now set for the holidays, and I really look forward to it. I want to use some of my free time to craft – make a Christmas journal, sew a couple of presents, do more baking, and practice more watercolouring. You can see my first try on the right.

And I also want to do a little more blogging – there are a few updates to write before we put this year to bed. And I have also just realised that I haven’t sent Richard my usual end-of-year update. (Nope, not a fan letter. Just an update. I insist on that wording!)

But until then – hope you can catch a few minutes of peace and quiet, and be ready for the festivities.

  1. Nice haul! Am I the only one who thinks of Twilight’s sparkly vampires with glitter RA?
    I love your watercolor!! So pretty.
    Have lots of fun with your mum. Spending time with loved ones is the best thing about the holidays. That and—for people like me with 9 to 5 jobs—not having to go into the office. I hope to do some crafting, some blogging and possibly some RA watching during my time off.

    • Exactly, and I really *am* looking forward to Belfast. It’s been a few years since I was last there, and I really like travelling anyway. Doesn’t always have to be abroad; a different city on the same island is actually good enough 😉

  3. The RA tag (and probably others as well) is seriously messed up. Is that what you meant by the timeline looking weird? Even if you filter search results by “recent” and not “top” posts, you still get only a handful of recent ones and the rest are much older. They used to be in order of posting (with endless scrolling) so it was easy to catch up on any I missed, now if something doesn’t appear on my dash there’s no guarantee I’ll catch up with it in the tag. Deleted blogs is only partially the reason I suspect. The whole site is going down the gurgler, but I’m going to hang in there as long as possible because ultimately my blog is my playground, my RA happy place.

    PS And that’s your first try at watercolours?!! I’m envious!!

    • That’s it – the RA tag is just weird. There was hardly anything new in there; and then suddenly all these Hannibal/Francis Dolarhyde posts popped up. It took me a while to actually cop on that these were old posts.
      I really wonder how we are meant to use tumblr then? Just by looking at our own dashboard rather than the tags? But it’s virtually impossible to keep up with a particular topic just via the dash… In any case, they are definitely killing the site. Such a pity.
      Mum has now arrived and it’s so beautiful outside, I have decided to take her out for a walk into town. OK, I admit, it’s also an excuse to buy a couple of last-minute presents…

    • Nee nee, ich kann bei weitem nicht alles. Und malen ist nun wirklich etwas, wovon ich wenig verstehe. Aber ich hatte mich da gestern mal inspirieren lassen von einem YT video, und war dann überrascht, dass es doch einigermaßen aussieht…

    • LOL – no one is going to buy dilettante water colours. But I was happy enough with them and feel happy to experiment more with paint brush and water…

Second I don’t know what dilettante means and stop deflecting b/c you are artistic beyond words and I see I’m wasn’t the only one to praise your water color work. I’m very visual so the photographs you take will nicely translate into the water color project for you in my opinion😘😘Third I’m happy your mum is there now and you can spend time w her. I have Belfast on my travel bucket list so please take pics and post your time b/c er some of us are not on Twitter besides you Kate and the 6’2 tall dwarf to leave comments 😘😘😘😉

    For the record, I love RA and I do NOT ship Bagginshield. At all.

    I think Tumblr just destroyed itself for no reason that we know of. Unless they’ve decided to turn it into a children’s playground. They’ve flagged NFComics as NSFW and now you can’t find it (she’s resurrected as zombiecarrol) and staff IS watching becuase every time someone finds a way around their walls, they hold it up. The tag is a joke, all of it…

    EITHER WAY!

    • Zee thank you for saying the Bagginshield comment I thought it was just me! I’m not on Tumblr so I don’t really get it to be honest but I do like the two beard pics of Richard and the spread eagle one w his combat boots on! Very sexy and dreamy 😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️

      • Yeah, I can’t even take it or leave it. I just leave it. Then again, I’m not a fan of the slash genre. No, I’m not homophobic, it just does nothing for me. I prefer my alpha male with a strong woman. Not an alpha woman and not a push-over, just a strong one.

        • Oh yeah I just don’t care for it and I don’t get the LOTR fan fare anyway but I do like Thorin for the strong male he is sigh sigh and it has nothing to do with homophobia at all so none of us would think that!!! 😘

          • I’ve written LOTR fanfic since 2002???? I started with elves, but quickly found my way to the Rohirrim. I LOVE my Rohirrim!!! I fell in love with the dwarves as well. Sigh. I guess it’s just my love for hairy men!

            (There are people who think if you don’t solely enjoy slash fic, then you are homophobic, because no one in their right mind would like heterosexual fanfiction! Well I guess I’m not in my right mind, even tho I’m right! LOL!

    • Yeah, Bagginshield is not really my cup of tea, either. It’s a case of “I can take it or leave it”. It’s definitely not the main canon in my head (not least because I was always slightly annoyed by the whiny hobbits – both in LotR and in TH)
      WTF . NFComics is porn? LOL, fantastic. Well, that says it all, doesn’t it`? Tumblr is definitely on the way to self-destruction.

      • Yeah – they fixed it so you can’t even LOOK for her. If someone reblogs something, you can pull it up on the side, but not the archive. And there is no arguing with them. ONce they decide, you’re screwed. Last night another ‘fix’ made the rounds, but it looked really techy to me.

    • yeah, i’m not into Bagginshield tbh…i do quite like Thorin fanfic and it’s made me warmup to the character of Thorin alot…we rewatched The Hobbit for the first time since seeing it in the cinema and i still have a massive urge to punch Thorin for being so bloody stubborn..apart from the end obviously

    A quick update… #flatrichie has left the UK (I did wonder if he’d get caught up in the shenanigans at Gatwick airport, but it seems not. Phew!)
