The Fan A to Z – #S

Have you noticed it? Guylty has been writing daily posts the last week, owing to the fact that I have not enough paid work and there for more time for my hobby. How are we coping with the onslaught? I’m happy experimenting with it, and am surprised to find that I actually have enough to talk and post about. And that is despite the continuing distraction via my junk journaling obsession. I am currently feverishly working on a little recycling project – if you are interested I’ll show you in my next post. Maybe I’ll make a video again?!

I had planned to finish another Hannibal Re-watch post today. The discussion has actually been interesting on the previous two posts. Thank you to all for watching with me and commenting! I have noticed that there is currently a general Francis Dolarhyde/Red Dragon buzz going on. Saw some tweets with pics as well. I am not so presumptuous to believe that it was *me* who revived the topic. Rather, I believe that Red Dragon Con 5 in London is already looming and making spectators itchy. Not a bad thing! However, after a surprising translation job this morning I got behind with my plan of watching episode 3×10 today for a post later this afternoon. So I am postponing that to tomorrow.

So instead I am taking my cue from Kate aka LenM and return for another instalment of the Fan A to Z. Kate tackled U today. If you haven’t subscribed to her blog My dearest Louise  yet, you really should take a look now. Her writing is hilarious. Anyway, S it is today.

S – Which actor would you like to see him paired with in the future?

Emma Thompson as motorbike nanny McPhee

Ok, first of all: I would love to see RA in a classy British production. Doesn’t have to be period, can be any genre. I don’t mind if it is another thriller, for instance. Although I have tiny niggles with Joy Ellis’ writing, I do very much like her Inspector Jackman series, and like many other people (and the author herself) I think that RA would make a perfect DI Jackman. Would Emma Thompson be too old for Jackman’s more-than-a-sidekick Marie Evans? I just love Thompson – she is so clever, funny, downright convincing in any role that is thrown at her. And I can imagine her as the kick-ass DS, leather-clad and motorbike-loving. Yes, a tad older than Jackman (or Armitage, for that matter) but a great team. I confess that I am *tooootally* predictable as a female reader and actually would love some romantic action between Evans and Jackman in the Ellis thrillers. But I know and understand that that is not on the cards…

Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman. They look good together. Maybe we should make it a threesome full-stop?

So without a romantic development on the horizon in the Fenland Constabulary, maybe I should have another go at answering this question? I would love to see RA paired up with a mature, English actor. And by mature I mean a woman his own age, not someone 15 years younger! After watching The Favourite the other day, Rachel Weisz comes to mind. Ok, or Olivia Colman. I personally like the latter better as an actor, but I think in order to be cast as a couple, Weisz would fit better. Just think of those two gorgeous human beings as an item – their dark hair and expressive faces. Ha, they could almost be cast as siblings, but no, I’d like to see them as a couple.

Tim Roth – goodie, baddie, could be both!

As for male actors – I’d love to see him paired with a character actor. Someone who has serious acting chops and isn’t (just) known as a gorgeous face. Plenty of choice there in Britain, and I would love to see him team up with Tim Roth. So good as a creepy, intense villain. So good, in fact, that I wouldn’t know now whether this dream cast would play together as a duo of baddies (modern!AU Robin Hood???? LOL), as two dream team heroes or playing against each other as baddie and good one (with RA playing the latter!!!)???

Dream casting is fun – who would *you* pair RA with? Let me know in the comments.

PS: Little update: Flat Richie has crossed the large pond… Won’t be long now until he visits his next victim 😉

  1. I think The Armitage praised Gary Oldman to the hilt so that would be my recommendation as a mature actor and Oldman would really keep Richard on his acting toes!! I also think if he and David Tennant paired up in a buddy movie that would be great. Tennant uses his eyes and body very well as does Richard of course-maybe skiing is involved too!
As for women Cate Blanchett would be no #1 for me. She exudes just the right amount of coolness that he can play off of. I love Emma Thompson too. Rachel Weisz has great facial expressions and could physically match up with Richard quite nicely. So many choices!!!
Junk journal: please share here. Its wonderful, insightful and endearing… your commentary is so funny and sweet!!

    • I had Oldman on my list, too, but since I wanted to decide on only one actor, I decided to go for the more left-field choice.
Tennant briefly crossed my mind, too, but I think his nervous energy would totally overwhelm RA’s subtleness of acting.
Cate Blanchett is another favorite of mine. I wouldn’t mind if the two of them found a project together!

    • Jenny, yeah I am fixated on her admittedly but I think his acting which is fantastic now would get such a push from something with Cate in it. I just think the personalities would work and the doors it would open for him. Granted I don’t want him to go do theatre in Sydney but she’s come to Kennedy center a few times with her acting company and been phenomenal. I haven’t read the Jackman series so I don’t know if Evans would be something she would like but Cate is just so versatile and not on Social media and speaks her mind and he need to gravitate to people like that in my opinion ..

        • Yes that’s right! I would have love to see more of Claude in O8 intermingling with the ladies esp Cate. He and Sandra Bullock were cute but that back story never really evolved past flashbacks in my opinion.

            • Yep I like Sandy a lot. She and Keanu Reeves had great on screen chemistry and off if you look at their interviews. I think Richard would probably work well with any actress the more experienced the better.. He is the consummate professional!

      • There are many, many of us Aussie fans who would love to see him do theatre in Sydney! Cate has a long history with the Sydney Theatre Company, including time as co artistic director with her husband. I imagine if anyone could get Richard onto the Australian stage it would be her. One can always hope *sigh*

  2. Wow, Flat Richie crossed the ocean very quickly! 🙂
I’d love to see RA as Jackman too, I’m listening to those audiobooks and he would be perfect.
I’d also love to see him working again with the same actors of Robin Hood, but in something completely different, maybe a light and funny series set in the present time.

    • I was surprised, too, Eugeal! I only posted him last week… hope he arrives really quickly!
I’d love to see him with his old RH mates, but in a complete crack!AU where he is Gisborne but in a good way, and Vaisey gets what he deserves and Robin is a shiny tracksuit-wearing low-life 😂😂😂

  3. Agree it would be good to see RA in a really good, classy British drama – and I’d like to see him opposite Suranne Jones, who is an intriguing actor. I think they’d work well together. Also, it’d be nice to see him being neither cop nor villain!

  4. I know she’s 13 years younger than RA but I would love to see him paired with Claire Foy. She would make a great Marie Evans imo. Most people probably know of her from her role in The Crown but she was also fantastic in the period dramas Wolf Hall and Little Dorrit. I also would like to see him cast in something with wonderful American actress Amy Adams and she’s closer to his age at 44.
For a male actor I would say Gary Oldman would be a top choice. I like your idea of Tim Roth, G. I just randomly came across an older movie with Liam Neeson and Tim Roth recently called Rob Roy. Tim plays the baddie to the hilt as usual. He would be a great pairing with RA in a period drama.

  6. Someone I attended Love, Love, Love with pointed out that you could tell which audience members were fangirls because, while most heads moved from side to side, following whoever was speaking, fangirls were turned the other way watching RA, even when he was standing still and saying nothing. (We paid our $100, and we were going to stare at him for 2 hours, dammit!)

    • Listen I’m sooo jealous that you got to see him. I am hoping with all fingers crossed that he graces a stage any stage this year so I can have the privilege of seeing him in live action!!!!

    • *coughs* Touché. That’s exactly how I would tell a fan from a coincidental theatre goer, too. (And it’s also the reason why I always make a point of NOT looking at RA at live events *lol*. But well, who am I kidding???)

    • A propos de notre expérience familiale, j’ajouterai qu’en plus les fans non natifs riaient non à propos, en décalage. Les rires de certains spectateurs avaient surpris Richard Armitage, à l’époque.

    • So true. I was hoping not to be too obvious in my focus. Oh well. People couldn’t tell it was me from the back. In fact, no one knows me in NYC, except other fangirls and a couple of their friends.

  7. After reading what fans said, now for me it would be a British Comedy with Maggie Smith as mother, James Corden, Claire Foy and Rhys Ifans as very close friends… like in one of my favorite biopic: “The Lady in the Van”.

  8. I’d love to see him in a Jackman and Evans series – each book could be covered by a four to six episode mini series. I’m predictable too Guylty. I want to see a romance with the two main characters.
Failing that, a well written British something anything! – a drama such as Bodyguard which was fabulous, a comedy (I’m still disappointed over Midlife Crisis not happening) or romance (period?!!! not holding my breath for that one). I don’t care what as long as I can watch it and not have to brace myself for ick or horror.
As for co-stars, Cate Blanchett would be my first choice, but I’d also like to see him in something with Emily Blunt, Keeley Hawes, Olivia Colman, Rosamund Pike. A comedy with Miriam Margolyes would be great!
Male co-stars I would have to think about. I’m not a big rap for Ralph Fiennes. I have a wee side crush on Michiel Huismann so seeing him and RA onscreen together would be visual heaven.

    • Oh, I didn’t even think about that, Mezz – yes, several episodes per book!!!! That would have RA’s schedule covered for the next 5 years *hooray*
There’s nothing wrong with a little bit romance. It’s uplifting in a world that is otherwise drab and dull.
Cate Blanchett would be great, not least because they would have something to talk about. I don’t think they ever really met on the set of TH, did they? They didn’t have any scenes together iirc.
Miriam Magolyes – oh goodness, yes!!! That is a great left-field suggestion.

      • No, I don’t think they did meet, no scenes together but they could chat and compare their Hobbit experiences. Then Cate could suggest a play with the Sydney Theatre Company to Richard ha! 😉😊

  9. So…um…er…I guess I haven’t mentioned…in addition to that television series I’m working on, about 3 months ago I started a screenplay that I’m writing for Emma Thompson to star in and hopefully direct. She’s a psychologist leading a therapy group that specializes in PTSD. Her group includes men and women from different walks of life but all have PTSD. And uh…yes…RA is the male lead. There is a romance but it’s between Emma’s sister, who is the reason she switched from being a grief counselor to PTSD, not between Emma and RA. You really can read my tiny mind, can’t you, Guylty?!

    • Well, two idiots, one thought, as we say in German… That sounds like a great premise, btw. I can’t wait to hear more – or rather: see it on the big screen. And as the writer you will have to totally stipulate that the lead can only be played by ET and RA.

      Liked by 1 person

      • I’ve lately become very interested in PTSD and have been doing some research. I have a feeling that this one may come before the TV show. Am not sure but goodness knows I need to get going on one or the other in March! Oh, you know, I will be visiting my mom for about 7 days in March when my sister is in Spain, so I could get a goodly chunk of work done then, couldn’t I? I may need a tiny bit of nagging about then, pretty please.

        Like

        • Oh, no problem with the nagging. We can take that on here… So yeah, good idea to actually work on this script first. If anything because it is shorter and a project that you can actually see through quicker than a whole series. Go on, do it. We want to read more!!!
