#FlatRichie And His 8th Leg

Seriously, are we only eight people down yet? There are 25 participants in total of our travelling shrine initiative, and I have the pleasure of telling you that Flat Richie is currently in mainland Europe. He arrived there last week, travelling from England. I have been told that all is well with him, and that he looked very well padded and wrapped up in suitably black latex *coughs*. Well, or some other kind of almost-leather-y looking material. Flat Richie is currently with Nordlicht, and when she was last in touch on Friday, she said she hadn’t yet decided what she was going to choose from the package… Let’s see if she will give us a clue soon 😉 But for your overview here’s Flat Richie’s European progress:

Zoom in via the + and – buttons!

While we are at it, here is a little Sunday Miscellany

  • It was Mr Guylty’s birthday last week. The man is about the unvainest person I have ever known. *little dig at RA in lieu of a birthday present for the best husband of all* As in: he didn’t want any mention, any presents, any parties for his birthday. However, the children and I decided we were going to ignore his wishes and instead kidnap him and treat him to a ‘spice bag‘ at a chipper where the kids used to hang out after school. Anyway, none of that is important to the blog topic, really, but this: Instead of a blindfold, Mr Guylty was told to pull his hat down, and *whoa*, did I have sudden visuals… (see evidence right). Honestly, I totally get now why the crew was gasping there on the set of Hannibal when RA starting crawling over the furniture with his woolly hat rolled down. I might have to ask Mr Guylty to re-enact the scene for me at home in our bedroom. Minus the lip-smack, though. (The spice bag was thoroughly disgusting, btw.)

  • I have the bestest fellow fans in the world. Check this out:

Is this the funniest tin you have seen yet, or is it??? A huge big thank you to Sparkhouse for this unexpected gift. I have never seen a tin like that before, and yes, even if I *hadn’t* recently come under the spell of the Red Dragon, I would still have considered this the ideal tin for a Francis Dolarhyde RAPS. The ring in the shape of a stag’s head is fabulous, too. Again, imagery from Hannibal. Many, many thanks, Sparky 😘

  • I didn’t think I’d be so enthusiastic about this… especially in light of the fact that I will have to resubscribe and *pay* for yet another subscription, but after listening to the trailer, I am really looking forward to the next season of the Wolverine podcast:

I totally bought that American accent during the phone calls. In fact, that accent is beginning to grow on me *eeeeek*. I think I have been totally brainwashed at RDC5! I’m not sure *what* the guy exudes when you stand in close proximity to him, but it feels as if most if not all my resistance to succumb to his charm has been eroded. Richard Armitage, mutant? Anyway, there’s another audio thing I have to make time for…

  • And yet another fellow fan who has picked me up when I was feeling low. I am still struggling with some rather unexpected nastiness in the fandom, and the best antidote, of course, is the fandom itself. Unexpected and definitely not required, LoLo sent me a beautiful present for a photo of mine I had provided.

It’s a slim Zox strap – and I love everything about it: the travel theme, the adventure theme, the map, the colours… Lololove it. (Wearing it right now. In fact, I haven’t taken it off since it arrived this week.) Thank you, LoLo!

  • Also, in case you haven’t seen it (although the master himself tweeted his thanks last night), Ali has just transferred the latest proceeds from the Amazon referral fees to Childline.

It’s not the first time Richard has acknowledged Ali’s wonderful, generous and regular donation scheme. Over the years she has donated in excess of 14,000 Pounds for a good cause – so I’d like to remind and encourage everyone to use her links if you are ordering via Amazon. I do so, too, even though I have Prime membership. And here’s a handy hint: In order to always generate donations with your Amazon purchases, you can basically save the referral link to your browser!

Doesn’t really matter whether you use Chrome or Safari (as in my example above), just create a bookmark in your browser with the link provided by Ali on her landing page. Every subsequent times you want to shop via the link, just open it in your bookmarks. I have moved my bookmark even into a tab of its own, for easy access. – Anyway, big massive thanks to Ali for continuing to generate donations. And to all the fans for continuing to shop!

  • Have you gotten stuck into the latest piece of audio yet? I was still only half way through The Guilty Ones when Audible notified me on Thursday that my preordered audio recording of The Taking of Annie Thorne was ready for me to download. I actually got a little nervous about the whole thing, not least because I saw that Tudor had been given a shout-out by the king of horror himself, Stephen King. Admittedly, he was talking about her debut novel, The Chalk Man. But a signal-boost from Stephen King himself… Well, it got me worried. Because I have never had any desire to read Stephen King’s brand of horror, and I assume his validation of C.J. Tudor means his horror sensibilities are being satisfied by her book. 😱 Well, I decided to ask her whether she is writing horror or not, and she replied “I write what some have called thriller-horror hybrids. Mysteries with a dark twist!” Well, I think I can deal with that. However, if anyone has finished the book yet – do let me know whether it is long-term traumatising or not. Whatever happened to scaredy-cat Armitage, btw? I thought he didn’t like horror. First Hannibal, then The Lodge and finally reading Annie Thorne. Mind you, I can just about imagine him doing his audio performance thing on auto pilot. In the sense that he can perform it without “hearing” it…

Completely unrelated photo of Richard at RDC5. Only as a little alternative to all that horror talk.

  • Finally – cod, I am missing Twitter! If anything for the quick and easy way of passing on news such as “paypal received” *thanks Linda60*, “Flat Richie arrived”, or “read this”. I read something the other day that was just so fitting, I screen shot it – and then realised I wasn’t tweeting anymore. *drat* Well, now *you* have the pleasure of seeing it here. Just because Brexit is affecting Ireland more than we really want – and some Brits have a rather funny idea of how the whole “hard border” and “backstop” mess could be avoided. As in: Offering Ireland to re-join the United Kingdom. (I won’t use any further adjectives to describe that idea, for fear of upsetting and offending my esteemed British readership… ) This is why Peter Flanagan, a London-based Irish comedian is exhausted about the whole Brexit mess:

Read the whole article in The Irish Times

ROFL. Touché.

Friendly greetings to all and happy Sunday, lads xx

  1. Hah, that’s a cool tin. And yes, I saw pic of your hubby and immediately thought of Francis!lol. Re Flatrichie- so almost 3 months in and only a quarter way through the list? Twitter had definitely reduced in banter since your quarrentine but I understand the need to reduce the usage. Luckily RA isn’t posting anything fascinating! Re the amazon thing-I have to admit to avoiding them as much a possible due to their poor pay/staff handling practices

    • Yep, Flat Richie really takes his time. And I don’t really mean his actual vacation with his hosts, but the travelling time in between. But that is totally out of our hands… Well, no matter. It just means that we have a long-term project going on until – Christmas??? 😂
You know, when it comes to Twitter, it’s not RA’s tweets that I miss. I get to see them anyway, because Servetus always reposts them. It’s the banter with you guys that I miss. I sometimes think that I have given my hater exactly what she wants – she wants me to shut up and die. There’s a part of me that is annoyed that I have given in to that. But well, better to cut my losses than feel even worse than I already do.
As for Amazon, I understand! That’s exactly why I wrote the little word *if*. There is no obligation at all that you have to buy anything there, Rachel. You are totally off the hook. But there are many people who do, and it is *them* that I am appealing to.

      • i promise i’m not moaning about flatrichie-honest! anyway, he’ll enjoy his jaunt in Wales when he gets here-we have plenty of castles for Gisbourne! i didn’t realise the twitter hiatus was partly due to the unpleasant issue you had with another person there-jeez-get back on! (or fuckem as i say) And yeah, Amazon-each to their own and at least if people are buying through them -at least some good is coming of it!

        • No no, I didn’t think you were moaning 😉. Just providing an opportunity for me to blog 😘. Oh, yes, all the castles in Wales… Gisborne will be thrilled!!!!
Yep, Twitter is messing with my heart more than my head.
Amazon – tricky subject because I do know the company from the inside. If I was living in Germany or UK, I’d actually register for a guided tour through the nearest logistics centre, just to see the working conditions for myself.

  2. Thank you for the Flat Richie update! Keep your head up and keep blogging here! Funks are not fun but friends to lift your spirits and thinking of you are the best antidote! 😘😘❤️❤️❤️
Ireland 🇮🇪 I hope she doesn’t get the drunk text or ignores it. Brexit just a shit show although a US president calling for a national emergency to get a stupid wall going nowhere built ain’t much better!
Positive thoughts to you ! 🤗😻😉

    • Yep, definitely returning to regular blogging this week. I’m in a bit of a general funk at the moment – life, work, health, family, blog, fandom. I need a strategy to get out of that.
And never was a truer word spoken re. the various shit shows currently on view this and the other side of the Atlantic. Honestly, when is it all over???

      • I join you in the general funk with all of the above you listed! Mine has lasted since January but I am grateful for the blogging twice a week I do now and the banter here and the great friends I have gotten to know thru the fandom. They have been life savers. I think your mental and physical health must come first and if Twitter brings you an iota of negativity screw it. Who cares if these people think they’ve won? They are pathetic if they get joy in making others feel miserable? Why be around any of that in the first place? You have people here and the various other blogs you follow and comment that love you and are happy for your words of wisdom and opinions. That’s what counts at the end of the day. At least IMO😉😘👍🤗

        • You are absolutely right Michele. I read something the other day that I was going to put to use eventually – as a new blog header or a badge or a message that my hater will never read – but this is it:
“Why spend your time obsessing about something you hate when you can spend your time obsessing about something you love?” Bingo!
Hope you get out of your funk, soon. Tbh, I think it is also the annual SAD. But spring is coming soon, Michele. Over here, the daffodils are out. Last week the average temperature was 14° Centigrade. I notice that the days are getting longer, and the sunrises are gorgeous at the moment. Life is returning!

  3. My goodness, Mr. Guylty bears an uncanny resemblance to the Great Red Dragon. 🐉 Just wow. 😲
This spice bag thing sounds intriguing. Do you always find it disgusting or just this particular one?
I loved the Irish Times comment on one of the most harebrained schemes of the century. Jeebus!

    Like

    • That resemblance is only in the hat *lol*. Otherwise Mr Guylty is actually full-on John Standring.
As for spice bags – it was my first ever taste of it, and I really disliked it. The chicken was of the worst, chewy, processed kind (in fact, when I ate the first bit of it, I actually thought it was a squid ring, not chicken… says it all), and it was way too spicy for my taste. Nope, never again. I’ll stay with plain fish and chips in the future, even if that dates me as a pre-millennial dinosaur.
Yep, Flanagan really is spot-on with his drunk text comparison! (Hehe, I knew *you* would like that. After all you are great at coming up with such similes yourself.)

I’m trying chatting in my guttural German which I’m trying to relearn! So I’m reading as is another great friend Seville Communion now “research” for the Armitage hopefully film role after The Stranger 😘😘😘how are you? Was ist los diese Tag? ❤️❤️😉

          • Waking up early on Sundays sucks. I can only encourage you to use your German Michele. It´s better than you might think. I´m not on any research for the Armitage right now, I´ve to confess. But I´m enjoying my time with FlatRichie that is coming to an end far too soon, unfortunately.

          • Seville Communion: I read the first 15 pages and thought OH MY GOD PERFECT CASTING. The guy is tall, fit, handsome and wears a fabulously tailored suit. YESSSSS. I don’t care that he’s a priest. He’s a Jesuit, and they are the intellectuals, smart ones. YES again. 15 pages was all I needed to be sold. Will wait for the movie to learn the plot. Yes, plot. I will pay attention to that, too.

            • Besotted I tell ya I was sold three minutes in as Quart was described and opened his mouth. I saw Richard totally in this role, movie, plot! I’m on ch 4 and I love the writing, the attention to detail. I have to concentrate on what is happening but the writing is soo good! I mean not to throw cold water on Coben writing but my good friend and I plowed thru the book in a day. Richard has such a blank convas as Adam. Quart is intricate and reflective and I can see Richard just devouring the book with delight!!

              • I agree about The Seville book which is why I was disappointed when I realised RA comments were about The Stranger.
Father Quart seemed multi layered and a perfect fit for Richard imo.

                • Yve yes but I think with The Stranger he’s got a lot of room to really develop Adam Price and mold him. I didn’t read Safe but Michael C Hall is a pretty intense actor and he was great IMO 😉
As the male lead. Also the same team is doing The Stranger for Netflix so I can see why Richard is soooo enthusiastic. I really like the writing and I’m falling for Quart myself in the book!! 😘🤣😉🤗

              • Butting in: With you both gushing about this book (and Father Quart) I am feeling tempted to read it after all. I wasn’t going to because I don’t want to be spoilt (same with The Stranger), but this sounds intriguing indeed. (Mind you, the whole ‘Father’ adage really makes me squirm… I *so* do not want to imagine RA as my “father” – spiritual or otherwise…)

                • Guylty, he’s a Father but he’s very multilayered as Yve said and aloof, and sexy. I am non non religious and the book is more than about the Vatican, he touches on many timely topics. The writing is really good (IMO) and descriptive so an agnostic ( borderline atheist) like me gets what the author is describing,. We see everything thru Quart’s eyes. I found Richard in this role right from the get go. I think he really enjoyed the read and it was like the author had written Quart with The Armitage in mind (again just my opinion folks!!)

  5. It’s lovely to hear from you Guylty, you’ve been missed. I’m sorry to hear about the nastiness but glad that you’ve had some loveliness on the upside. Mr Guylty is certainly working the Francis look. Happy birthday Mr G! And that spice bag looks amazing. I don’t eat meat but am developing an unhealthy obsession with similar dirty fries. Great analogy about Ireland and Britain – no offence take here. the opposite in fact.

  6. Had never heard of the “spice bag,” but the pictures make it look like it would be my kind of thing. But not if the meat is poorly cooked.

Twitter — it’s just irredeemable imo. It cannot die fast enough for me (although I keep reading these articles about how it’s dying, and somehow it never dies). I’m there because boyfriend and the fandom is there, but I try to limit my exposure as much as possible.

  7. Thanks Guylty! I’m glad the package found it’s way to you (I’m never sure about our Canadian postal system these days) – I know you will create something interesting with it. Regarding your ‘fan’ on twitter – it’s mind boggling that anyone anywhere would find something negative to say about you of all people. It’s hard not to internalize negativity but deep down I hope you know it’s them, and not you.

    Liked by 2 people

    • I looked at the post mark, and I think your package took about a week and a half to get here – not too bad, right?
Oh, I am sure there are plenty of annoying things about me, Sparky. And that’s fair enough. I don’t expect to be loved by everyone. I am just flabberghasted that someone can poison others to turn against me – even though I never had any beef with them. That’s what hurts me more than that one person who apparently hates me.

      Liked by 2 people

      • I guess Canada Post is back on track after their annual Christmas postal strike – that’s good! Wow – I had no idea it had resulted in others turning against you as well. Poison spreads throughout those with herd mentality is all I can make of things like that.

        • And one nasty person avidly lobbying in that direction. It’s disgusting. The only reason they all don’t gang up on me as well is that they’re so in love with their little Berlin Station spy games that they cannot figure out what (or rather whom) the other person is actually referring to. 🤬

          Liked by 2 people

          • LOL – Berlin Station Spy Games – I love that! White T-Shirt Gang….annoying. (RA was our beloved white T shirt man – with a V neck of course – before Leland lovers co-opted it).

            • Just to clarify: My comment had absolutely nothing to do with that particular group or hashtag.‼️ I have no contact or beef with them. (That’s how false rumors start.)
I could’ve just as well said Spooks or James Bond spy games. All I meant was that the haters in question don’t name names explicitly—just talking about “that person, who did such and such” and that some things must get lost in translation that way, because I haven’t been shunned by some of them when Guylty is getting grief. My assumption is that the veiled references don’t point clearly enough in my direction for some people to get the point. (And yes, I’m not naming names either, but that’s because *I’m* not trying to get anyone to engage them, so it’s not pertinent.)

              Liked by 2 people

              • Sorry! I did not mean it as a link between the two – I have no problem with the people in the ‘gang’ – it was just the name of it that irked me. I actually admired Leland’s devotion to the show and trying to build the fan base week in and week out.

  9. Happy to see Flat Richie has made it to his next host. It does seem like slow going sometimes but no surprise there with the miles he’s been racking up. Happy Birthday Mr Guylty. He doesn’t look nearly a frightening as FD in that pic and I’m sure he has much nicer teeth 😆 Re: the Tudor audiobook- I’m no horror fan either and I can tell you fwiw that my impression was it is a mystery thriller with a creepy twist but definitely not horror. I enjoyed it, but personally I liked The Guilty Ones better tbh.
Twitter is losing it’s earlier appeal for me. It’s great for breaking news and pretty pictures (and there are uplifting bright spots) but it seems the negativity is more and more prominent. Seems like people can’t have a civil discussion without it turning into personal attacks. I try to scroll past a lot of it but it’s hard to avoid. I definitely feel more hesitant to comment on Twitter than when I first joined.

    • He really is not taking the fast route, anyway. Instead of doing the rounds in Europe first and then go overseas, he is criss-crossing the Atlantic. At some stage he is even going to go down under!! So yeah, the whole time delay is incidental to the scheme. But maybe the whole serves as delayed gratification, anyway? 😉
oh, thanks for your sharing your impressions of Annie Thorne!! That is great to know. And it sounds as if I really can deal with that. Brilliant!
Yeah, I don’t know, Twitter has lost its appeal for the moment. At least on my fandom account. I am still using my work Twitter. But then again, there is no drama there, so that’s all good.
