Armitage Weekly Round-up 2019/8

I’m getting ready for tomorrow…

Paddy’s Day on Sunday – and just to let you know that I intend to celebrate tomorrow in the same way that I always celebrate Paddy’s Day on my blog… *hint hint*.

But before we get to that, let’s start the weekend with a few little gems from Tumblr.

  1. I’m confused. Where does this gorgeous picture of Richard in the recording studio come from? I don’t think I have seen this before. My heartfelt thanks to deepestfirefun for posting this gorgeous shoulders-and-half-profile image
  2. Ok, not new as such, but looking at aidanspace’s gif set, I am thinking that this look of Thorin’s is the stuff of some NSFW fan fics
  3. Just for handy perusal, mezzmerizedbyrichard has put all Starfury’s images of Richard at RDC5 into one set. Thanks for the fan service!
  4. Wow, here is some fan art that I love. Posted by angelpretend
  5. *coughs* What a Guy wants by nfcomics. *coughs* rather… ahem… a handful
  6. Any RPF readers out there? Writerandee writes a RA RPF and is looking for beta readers
  7. Major silver fox alert courtesy of jassy2101
  8. I loved this collection of screengrabs that kind of summarise NS for Mr Thornton. Posted by bashful-heart
  9. Oh, I love this new gif created by riepu10 – really aesthetic. And not only because Daniel Miller is in it
  10. Jassy2101 also shares a crop of a fan photo with RA from RDC. Has a touch of a passport photo if you ask me…
  11. Vampire!Richard??? I confess, I am not a fan of the vampire genre *at all*. But if there is anything or anyone who could tempt me to get into it, it is RA. So whatever fizzyxcustard is planning, I am on board
  12. LOL – majorely dishevelled Guy… Posted by aidanspace
  13. Oooh, interesting scenario with RA and Martin Freeman in a some sort of Red Dragon re-make? Posted by chaostheoryworld
  14. And lastly – dream job?! I’d say there’ll be plenty of competition for this one. A post by thewarriorandtheking

Hope you’ll have a nice Saturday!

Guylty ❤

  1. hah, your St Patricks day gif made me LOL
like #9 -always nice to see people doing new and interesting things with pics and GIFs
surprised the vampire fic idea doesn’t pull on those pics of him in a black polo neck in that hotel shoot where he’s pale AF
#12 long hair Guy is and will always be my favourite

    • Hehe, glad you liked the little Paddy’s Day fun… Not sure if we’ll be dancing tomorrow. In good old Paddy’s Day fashion, the weather forecast is for rain tomorrow. *that’s Ireland for you*
Ugh, don’t mention that *horrible* photo shoot in the NY hotel. So ugly. (But in that sense very fitting for a genre I don’t like *haha*)
Long hair Guy is very pretty-pretty.

      • yeah, i don’t like those photos either but very vampiric!
shame about the weather- we don’t do St Patricks Day though it’s actually OHs birthday!

        • Yep, same here. For me, there are a couple of things wrong with it. a) the styling. A black turtleneck really is never a good choice, even if you *don’t* have a double-chin. b) he looks not only pale but also pasty in this shoot.
In general, I just don’t think the pictures do him justice. He looks older than his years.

              • I’m one of those people — that shoot immediately impressed me when I saw it and although it’s not a favorite, I still am pleased when those pictures run across my feed. But I suspect you’re actually in the majority.

                  • I think the majority view for almost any picture of Armitage, if you surveyed the same number of fans repeatedly about different pictures, would be for “gorgeous,” i.e., Armitage fans as a group are more likely than not to consider any picture of him gorgeous, but there will be a group for any particular photo who don’t like it. And also in the sense that this photo continues to make it regularly into the group of those that are tweeted, posted, regularly, as well, it’s fair to say that it is well liked. However, in terms of what people I know would say about it, I think opinions are definitely split.

                    • Yep, I guess ‘gorgeous’ is the logical reaction anyway. I mean, we are all fans… 😂
I hasten to add that those are definitely not the worst pictures of him. And I completely accept that it is all subjective…

                  • I had the impression that the photos were popular too. They are regularly re-posted. I love how we all love different aspects of the Armitage ( clean-up shaven (yes!)/ beard, boy/man/dad etc). Apart from the NY shoot, the one pic I really can’t stand, is the one where he wears a white crinkly shirt ( I think, can’t look at it) and has wet curly hair falling over his face. His eyes look amazing but I just can’t bear to look at it and yet this image is rally popular and has been used for pillows, magnets etc.

                    • It really is so funny how different tastes are – and that you can never say that something is “objectively” bad. The example you give – the wet look RA – is an image I like. (Not my favourite, but I do like it.) Whereas the leather shirt jacket of RA in the car, looking down, is one that I absolutely can’t stand – and like you, I can’t bear looking at it. So, hehe, where does that leave the verdict of these photographs? It just goes to show that it’s all completely subjective…
PS: My all-time favourites are the Ascroft pictures.

                    • I second that. I like the wet look. Not so much the composition, but he’s undeniably sexy in it. {It actually reminds me of a Garth Brooks photo. I’ll have to go and make a side-by-side comparison.}
That infamous selfie (if I’m thinking of the right one—sucked in cheeks, seems like he’s looking down his nose?), however, really is one of my least favorite photos ever!

                    • He wears his Mykita sunglasses in it. Looks down into the camera. And has this truly horrible sneer on his face. Or, well, what looks like a sneer to me. It obviously wasn’t that – because why on earth would he otherwise tweet the pic – but he just look so arrogant and spiteful in it, I instantly disliked the image. (It’s long gone now – he deleted it. And for once I was pleased he did…) But ok, just for clarification – it’s this one: https://meandrichard.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/ck_fkghwsaeigmb.jpg

P.S. We’re actually in your living room, so you have to delete the link if you want it gone. 😉

And I can tell you, it was not favourable…)
Yep, absolutely no comparison to the pictures from last night. (Although I am personally not a fan of tongue pictures at all. But that is just me. I apparently have a thing about finding tongues disgusting…)

I will say his Mykitas can make any outfit and selfie look better. He just radiates SEX to me in those Mykitas. I agree I’m not a tongue girl per se but it looks so playful and good hearted and maybe he had some Pinot Noir to help him take the selfie but I found it enchanting and effervescently entertaining of him so late at night UK time which I assume is where he’s at

The Mykita glasses are a double-edged sword. Very fashionable and exclusive, yes. Added bonus: German brand. But I am not 100% on board with the style. (That’s fashion-challenged me…) They are always that little bit too round for my taste – which to me looks like grandpa glasses. But as I said – I am totally fashion-illiterate, so I am wrong and you and Richard and all the Mykita lovers out there are right!
The pics from last night are absolute bomb. Love everything about them – not least that he may have taken them spontaneously at midnight. Big thumbs up to that.

                    • Yep I thought around midnight or there a bit after and I thought perhaps b/c they were a bit goofy and sweet and silly that some PN played a part but good for him that the itchy fingers shared some adorable pics and a confession of sorts finally. His whole perspective seems more upbeat and maybe this project and starting his production co and yes perhaps moving back home closer to his dad and brother/family have done him a world of good in his spirits and outlook.

                    • This is not a comment aimed at you specifically, Michele, but I have to say I am always surprised that any kind of happiness on part of the OOA is often ascribed to the consumption of alcohol. I have heard that kind of reaction quite often, and it grates with me every time. I mean, the man is currently working on a project, so I suspect he would probably not get plastered on a Sunday evening before returning to work again on Monday. It’s what I would expect from him, consummate professional that he is…
(Once again – not a complaint directed at you, just expressing my general response to the frequent “alcohol” accusation)

                    • Thanks for giving that vague feeling of unease I’ve always felt shape. I wasn’t consciously aware of it, but I have felt a niggle every time I read something like that. For one, I don’t believe that his goofiness (which I adore) stems from or needs alcohol consumption. Apart from that he’s said that he doesn’t really drink anymore iirc.

                      Like

                    • Well, I have also heard people say that he has an alcohol problem. I mean, I have no idea; I don’t know the man well enough to detect anything like that, but in any case, I personally never associate his happiness with alcohol, and I kind of dislike it when people do that.

                      Liked by 1 person

                    • I didn’t get the feeling that mood of this post was happy, specifically, or at least “only happy.” More sort of like “wow, still had these things, thought you would like to see them, look how far we’ve come.” A bit of goofy, maybe.

                      Liked by 1 person

                    • Because you were arguing that those who postulated the involvement alcohol were saying he needed alcohol to be happy. No one said that.

Happy and goofy are different moods, imo. I’ve been in that situation a lot in the last five years — unpacking the past (perhaps for similar reasons, perhaps not, who knows) and coming across things that have a whole series of memories associated with them. In my experience, memories are often shaded and they mean different things at different times and in different contexts. It’s a different thing to say “oh, wow, thrilled to find this stuff again! Let me show it to fans!” than it is to say “wow, I’d kind of forgotten this was here, wonder if it still fits, oh, it does, fans might think this was funny.” To me, the latter impulse (doing or saying something one would not normally do or say) is quite easily facilitated by alcohol. I don’t think anyone was saying he *was* drinking. Just that it would not be implausible to think that alcohol might have played a role.

                    • Guylty, no I wouldn’t want to think he is only giddy because of PN. I just thought the time of day was odd and perhaps he had been having a nice evening and cared to share his giddiness with everyone. I agree he is the consummate professional and maybe has been a teetotaler for a long time so I would never accuse him of boozing the night before a shoot (except for Wolverine by his own admission I seem to recall to get the character’s voice) I am sorry if it came across judgey or snarky because it certainly was not my intention at all. Quite the opposite I was elated that he shared such sweet and adorable pics of himself in “costume” and a confessional sort of tweet.

                      Like

                    • I don’t know whether he is a teetotaller – I kind of doubt that, too. I think he’s just a normal bloke, tbh. And maybe he did have a glass of red last night, but I just don’t believe that it is the alcohol that motivates what he does. And for the year that is in it, he seems to have changed his social media approach – he’s been much more “sociable”, he has interacted with other posts, and he is apparently making an effort at being more entertaining and engaging on Twitter and Instagram. My conjecture is that it isn’t alcohol but the emotional upheaval of last year that has caused the change…

                    • Because (a) he has frequently referred to drinking as a way to relax and/or develop parts of a character (voice) and (b) because this kind of selfie shared with fans is pretty atypical for him, the kind of thing one might do to relax inhibitions and (c) this weekend is the anniversary of his mother’s death and drinking is a frequent response to grief / tension. I personally think it’s a totally reasonable extrapolation in this case, even if he might drink less now than he has in the past.

                      Liked by 1 person

                    • In any case — I don’t know if he was drinking or not. However, you can bet I was drinking a lot more than normal the year after my mother died. I am also way less convinced than you that his recent social media behavior reflects anything more than pressure to behave differently from an employer, but I am willing to be convinced when we see a year of solid evidence in that direction.

                    • FWIW I did not drink at all the year after my dad died – so what point does that prove, Serv? In any case, I really do not want to discuss here in public the likelihood of him getting pissed.

There’s all kinds of evidence about how he has behaved in the past, things he has said in the past. It also has to be understood within its own context (not every statement is literal). No, we will never know for certain. But there are a range of plausible explanations and they can be discussed.

      • That’s the thing. If you beta something that’s good and just needs some polish, it’s great. I beta some of Louise‘s stuff, but she’s a great writer, so no hardship. I’m a grammar and punctuation stickler, which annoys some people, but she is as well, so I’m not needed there. And then there’s bad writing. I could never beta stuff like that. It sets my teeth on edge and I don’t wanna be mean. 😑 Some stuff you read that’s published is just argh.

And I don’t even just mean grammatical and spelling correctness, but also the general theme of the story. I don’t want to be challenged when I am reading fan fiction – I just want my thrill, and fast…

It’s a shame the OP doesn’t indicate their source, although many of them use Pinterest/Facebook and that’s all you find in a Google image search as well. The original source is well and truly buried under a heap of pics reposted time and again.

      • Ah thanks! So when you read Zee stuff as a gamma what is the difference? You were just a third party reader and just giving her advice on what you thought?

Paddy’s Day looks to be wet tomorrow. Ha, old Irish tradition: Must be wet and preferably really cold on national holiday. I’ll sleep in and thank my stars that the days are over when I had to carry our household ladder into the city centre to the parade route in order to provide my children a spot from which to watch the parade over the heads of all the grown-ups 😂
