Armitage Weekly Round-up 2019/10

It’s the weekly round-up everyone…

  1. Only posting this picture of Daniel Miller by jassy2101 because it gives me reason to use a German word. Dackelfalten. Literally: dachshund wrinkles. I think that is so much more evocative than “frown”
  2. I suspect this is an oldie, but just because it fits the scene so nicely… What a Guy wants by nfcomics
  3. Where is this BTS bit of footage from? Richard walking into a room. Don’t think I have ever seen this. Have you? Posted by greatkingunderthemountain
  4. Timely reminder that I was going to write a rewatch review of ITS: First scene from ITS, giffed by riepu10
  5. LOL – the effect of Richard’s nose, described by gingerteaonthetardis
  6. Riepu10 makes the colour test: Which colours suit Richard’s complexion? What do you think?
  7. Deepestfirefun posts a picture of the Armitage family all together, apparently – probably Hobbit BOTFA?
  8. Not sure what “man who can do both” refers to, but the second of the two gifs is just fascinating – seeing the expressions cross his face, you can really tell what he thinks… Posted by rcrispina
  9. OMG, a guy gif for me! Labelled “Sir Guy of UNF” by mezzmerizedbyrichard. Many thanks!!!
  10. Here’s one for Team Shrubbery. Although it’s actually a post about Thorin’s braids. By thewarriorandtheking
  11. Not sure what psicopathya has done there, but this pic looks as if Raymond de Merville is actually laughing…
  12. A beautifully illustrated quote of Richard’s re. NS. Posted by riepu10
  13. And for the chunky-hunk fans, here’s SDCC Richard from 2012. Posted by 3intheam

Hehe, that was a quick walk-through, wasn’t it? So for today’s extra I’ll just applaud Mr A for some open campaigning for LGBT rights.

One wonders what kind of closed mind a leading question like that can come from. I personally don’t think there can be much discussion about the answer to that question. Why did the BBC ever put this question on the agenda??? And why did Mr A watch television at 6 pm on a Friday? 😉

You can ponder all those questions over the next 48 hours. Have a great weekend!

Guylty ❤

Oh, and PS:

Is it any wonder? I mean, with Daniel Miller SPOILER killed off the best bit of the show was buried. Congratulations to Richard for actually preempting his dismissal by letting the showrunners write him out of BS. Over and out,

  1. Thank you so much for all those mentions. 😊 I have second colour test post in my queue (I’m still in Berlin).

#3 that video is from Keke Palmers Instagram when they started to film the second season of Berlin Station. I don’t remember who made that gif.

    • Hooray – Berlin, Berlin – you lucky thing. Hope the weather is good in the Hauptstadt, and you are seeing nice things. Have you been up the Reichstag dome? (Free, but ticketed. Tickets online!) Are you going on a Berlin Station tour? Kind of ironic – for the weekend that’s in it…
Ah, thanks for reminding me re. that clip that I couldn’t remember.

      • We went there on Wednesday and we just arrived back to Finland. I tried to see at least few BS filming places, but my travelling companions weren’t that in to it. 😕 So I need to go back there someday. I managed to meet one fellow well wisher there.

        • Aw, it’s already over?? Glad to hear you were able to put in some BS sightseeing. And cool – you met a fellow fan!!! That’s the coolest thing, don’t you think, going to other countries and being able to meet a local through the fandom!

  2. I love any gif/pic that showcases the Dackelfalten and eyebrow action. The whole forehead area is very fascinating.

#9 is proof the man has actual superpowers. Nobody else could make that mullet UNF-worthy!

    Great Merville. Yum!

  3. Question Time was Thursday evening at 10.35 so if he had had a glass of red wine I wouldn’t be surprised but he is interested in social issues or he wouldn’t involve himself in the charities that he supports. And it makes a change from Brexit lol

    Like

    • Oh, ah – so it was a delayed reaction. Even weirder so…
You are right, he is very much interested in social issues, and Servetus reminded me in another comment feed that he had championed the LGBT cause before when Ireland went to the polls for marriage equality in 2015.

      • They apparently tweet out the questions, so maybe he didn’t watch the show but just saw the question come across his timeline? Either way, I support the attitude! Love is love is love!!

        Like

        • Totally support the attitude – but must say that I found his tweets kind of difficult to immediately make sense of. I like that he reacts to political matters and that he is less afraid to actually express his opinion nowadays. But he always does so in ways that are still vague. It’s as if they come with a big, flashing sign that says “Sorry, don’t mean to tread on your toes”. I mean, in this case – the example about the same-sex parents coming to the school gates – whatever does he actually *mean*? Why can’t he just tweet “That question is bullshit, BBC, and you shouldn’t even have asked it!” rather than pussyfooting around.

          • Guylty I’m so glad you said this about his school gates phrase I didn’t really get the full meaning of what he meant I mean maybe he didn’t either but it was rather smoke and mirrors like his selfies sometimes
What did you think about the tweets from last night? He included his essay or diatribe from the immigration center visit

            Like

            • I am actually at a loss what he really meant about the conversation at the school gates. Not least because I don’t believe that he has any insight on what happens at the school gates. (Unless he has a same-sex partner with whom he shares a child and he encounters other parents’ conversations at the school gates on a regular basis when he picks up his child there… ) That’s why I am kind of flummoxed. I don’t know whether he is implying that the general public does *not* have a problem with LGBT issues anymore , or whether they are still as homophobic as ever. From my own experience (as a het.sexual parent who *used to* have to pick up my kids at the school gates), I have to say that in 14 years of having kids in school, I do not know of even *one single* same-sex couple… (and my kids went to a rather middle-class, educated, liberal, bourgeois school…). So what is his point? Have we moved on or not? I am honestly not sure what he meant…
The other tweets from last night – I enjoy the first one with the film recommendation. But after that he first goes to the lecture and then he wheels out the heavy artillery and circles back to the immigration crisis of 2016 for some guilty conscience… Don’t get me wrong – I *like* that he expresses opinion, I am *glad* his opinions are fairly similar to my own. But I neither like guilty conscience tactics nor do I respond well to people implying they are saintly. Talk less and do more, is my motto. But well, I am sure this is a very unpopular opinion, and my haters are going to have a field day with this *waves*.

              • Well I am glad that you said all of this b/c I was confused although flummoxed is a heavy emotion. I think he should be more transparent in everything and not so mysterious and let me give you hints and you figure out what I am trying to say. Same for his selfies although the GoG were adorable and sweet.

          • I think he‘s a bit too clever for his own good sometimes. With the school gate thing, like I said, 98 % of people misunderstood his meaning. IMO, he said “Stupid conservatives, you don‘t want to talk to kids about this stuff. What if mom/mom or dad/dad pick up their kids from school and your kids see that and ask questions? What do you tell your children then? It‘s a fact of life. Deal with it accordingly.“ And everyone thought he meant what is the conversation in the LGTBQ household. Big misunderstanding.

That‘s why personally I would have tweeted “Is it morally right to teach kids about everyday life? Fixed it for you, BBC.“

But hey, his heart is in the right place. He always said he wasn‘t Shakespeare. Baby steps?

            • There we are – so I am not the only one who was completely at a loss? (I sometimes wonder what he is thinking when he is composing his tweets? This is not the first time that he is posting something that his readers misunderstand. His desire to not get up anyone’s nose, really stands in the way of communicating clearly what he believes.)
Of course his heart is in the right place. Baby steps? Eh, well, he has been taking them for 4 and a half years now… Is that still considered baby steps? By all means, he’s not even a toddler anymore, is he?

              Liked by 2 people

              • i think it’s baby steps in that he’s trying to post more stuff from the heart rather than just pretty selfies, but I think he’s so concerned about upsetting people that he gets in a muddle..bit of stream of consciousness…in that he’s not really reading what he’s tweeting-again it’s the problem with one sided conversations..he needs to engage more

                Liked by 2 people

                • Rachel quite right! We wish he would engage more even if it is IG although I am happy if he tweets more social and political issues!! I suspect his views are similar to ours Rachel! 😉👍👏❤️❤️🇬🇧

                • More posting from the heart – that was my impression too, Rachel, but then Servetus pointed out that there hasn’t been a significant difference, and I think she is right. I don’t see how he has really changed very much from his previous MO. But anyway, I think you are definitely right that he is too concerned with upsetting people – and writes himself into a wishi-washi corner. And yes, since he never engages with his readers, he also never finds out how his tweets are perceived… Echo chamber.

              • Well that’s interesting. I thought that he just meant, how are you going to say that those are Johnny’s two dads when kids ask if you are not even allowed to mention an LGBTQ “issue”. (My older son played hockey with a kid who had two mums. Not at the school gates, but at the hockey rink.)

                Like

                • Yeah, I think I got that completely wrong. The more I think about it, the more I believe you (and Kate) are right. That’s what he meant. (But the fact that some people misunderstand is already a comment in its own right. He should’ve been clearer.)
Mind you, I think his comment misses the point of the initial question. There is a massive difference between what a state-run school teaches its pupils, and what parents teach their children.

  4. First Mezz is just wonderful in her gif making!! UNF indeed! Second I’m all for more Raymond pics and gifs and I know I’m not alone in that 😉
Third any and all hunky chunk of Richard is fantastic and always welcomed!
Finally I am happy BS is cancelled. I like my fanfic ending much better anyway and Richard has certainly moved on to greener pastures!!

Oh I wonder if he stays in Manchester on the weekends or flies back to London?

    Great round up!!

    • Agree – so glad everybody is sharing their gifs and photos etc.
Yeah, I am not really sad that BS is over. I wouldn’t say I am happy either – even though I didn’t like it that much, I do appreciate that they tried their best. I am glad he has got something else to apply himself to.

  5. Number 8- man who can do both? Look like a mardy arse and look like Norman Wisdom? I don’t know! Lol
    Number 13 is lush
Re the BBC. ..they’re jut etymg more and more untrustworthy quite frankly and stuff like that question piss me off

    Liked by 2 people

    • LOL – mardy arse… So, “smoulder vs geek”?
“lush” indeed. Even I, not on Team Shrubbery at all, concede that.
Posing the question like that was unnecessarily provocative – and leading and discriminatory. But I think the BBC got quite a bit of pushback on that…

  6. What a shame about BS, it had so much going for it at the beginning, but they threw it all away.

I’m with SueBC about #2. He’d better not get too close to that giant candle in his metal casing or he’ll end up even hotter than we’d like. 🔥 Oh, and I LOL’d at another of the WAGW posts when I scrolled down. If only…

Smiling Raymond was awesome. He must have had his lighter moments, I’m sure. Perhaps… Maybe… On rare occasions… Am I going out on a limb here???

Thanks for this, Guylty. Lots to enjoy here. And I have my copy of the windy movie at the ready for whenever you are. 💨 🌪

    • Yeah, I loved the idea of BS – but the execution? Not so much. I am slightly sorry that RA is associated with it.
Raymond – it would be interesting to explore the character pre-Crusades. That whole expedition probably changed the man forever. And for the worse.
Arrrrgh, the wind film. I think I know now what I will be blogging about today.

      • Guylty Zee and I can vouch the wind film is underrated! Watch it s few times it is quite clever in its shout outs to other films!! Plus Gary is human in it relatable !! Except those trousers! Those were awful!!

        Like

        • Eh, I have seen the wind film before, Michele, and I can vouch that the film is *not underrated* but was received exactly the way it should be: it was meant as a summer blockbuster, nothing more, nothing less. It didn’t quite make the “blockbuster” adage, but it was harmless, mindless desaster film fun. Not more, not less.

  7. My favorite was Thorin’s braid-fest. Don’t really have a strong opinion on his hair style, but fortunately a view of his braids comes with a view of his face. Nice scenery from so many sources this week.

  8. Thanks for the round-up Guylty. Re 4 and the ITS breakfast, It looks like he is looking up the answers to his crossword on his tablet. No wonder he was annoyed at being filmed! 6. Black, black, black. 11. I think Raymond is smiling sardonically at the extraordinary sight of a plain rock .

    • LOL – nice interpretation of the intro scene in ITS, dreamer!!!
I suspect in 11 Raymond isn’t smiling at all… Sometimes, when you click “screenshot” at the right time, facial expressions come across as smiles but really are just a split-second of articulating the sound “eeee” 😉
