RA Pocket Shrine 187/? – London Spy Guy [Raffle]

The people have spoken.

I asked you this question in my last RAPS post, and therefore I am now coming up with the goods. I am not surprised the majority of votes went to the Vintage London tin. It is just so pretty – and who doesn’t like London?

I am a bit hazy on the provenance of this mint tin. It may have come from a fellow fan, Judit, years ago, but it may also have been bought by me in Greece in 2016. I can’t remember. Maybe I should start putting little pieces of paper into each of the tins, noting the origins. Anyway, doesn’t matter. But it’s a really sweet little tin, quite reminiscent of those whimsical designs by Cath Kidston. With the title of the post and the background imagery, I am confirming the hunch that Loops already expressed in a comment last week. Yes, this is a shrine that concerns our favourite London spy.

Loitering around phone boxes, looking pretty in peacoats by the London Eye. (I feel that sounds like the first line of a poem…) But seriously, Lucas North, despite his origins in the North of England (didn’t he say that somewhere?) and his eight years lost in a Russian prison, will always be the quintessential London spy for me. Very urbane, technologically aware, easily blending in… I totally bought the spy off Richard… Speaking of whom…

I know. He is not a Londoner by birth. But I have decided that he gets the London guy accolade, because he has said it more than once that London is his home.

Did you notice that this shrine is a mixture of Shrubbery and Stubblitage? Well, just in case, covering all bases. And even I, beard-hater, like that picture. It reminds me of the Summer of Love. 😍 Unsurpassed.

This shrine is up for grabs. Perfect for anyone whose favourite city is London, whose favourite chaRActer is Lucas North, and whose favourite beard is Richard Armitage 😉. To be in the draw, leave a comment under the post. Raffle is open to all; I’ll send the RAPS anywhere in the world, all free of charge. Raffle closes Tuesday, 18 June, 12 noon BST.

Best of luck 😘

  1. Uf, uf! ❤ Love it!

Did you paint the upper interior or you printed it? If you did print it, it's great how it turned out without creases.
I love London, but I am not fond of idea of living there because it's too big and too noisy (unless without a choice). I am more stubble than beard team, but I will take him in any form given, tbh. XD

    • Oh no, I didn’t paint that. It’s actually a photograph from a tourist brochure that I cut out and used as the background.
I basically feel about London the same way as you do. I love going there, and I am very fond of the place, but I would not want to live there. Not only because it is so big but because it is so expensive.

  2. It is a lovely thing indeed!
Good colour choices and classic imagery (those green trousers…rawr!)
Does make me laugh when he says he’s from London but I guess partly because he’s lived there so long but also I think it ranslates easier than trying to explain where Leicestershire is!

  3. I LOVE this one!!! ❤️ The tin is fabulous and Lucas North. . . *sigh* 😍 I miss him. Definitely the best London spy. Exquisite work as always, Guylty! 😘

  4. London is one of my favourite cities, and the one I visit most often. And Lucas is definitely my favourite version of RA. As for beards, no contest!

  5. Omg, I love it! 💜 perfect RAPS, it has all in it! Richard, London, spy…
I miss London. It was almost two years ago when I was there last time and it wasn’t the happiest time to be there.

  6. Lucas North, my favorite escort through London. I’m ready any time. Thank you for a little beard, Richard’s is the only beard I tolerate.

    • Same here, Dele. I am quite surprised that the beard hasn’t turned me off RA yet. Because I really am not a fan. But well, principles are there for breaking.

  7. Perfect melding of tin and subject, as usual! That photo shoot when he was wearing those green trousers is one of my all-time favorites. Done during the time of The Crucible, yes? Ah, #PrimeArmitage for me, but oh! Lucas! Definitely #PrimeSpy.

How is Miss Guylty doing? Exams finished?

    • Yes and yes!! Proctor is the ultimate look and physique and hunky chunky and beardage for me!! Raymond now is a close second w his French speaking as icing on the scrumptious cake!!
I love the green moto trousers and white shirt and sprawled look w combat boots!! Just heart thumping ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧😘🤗

    • I confess I am not a supermassive fan of that photo shoot. (The colour clash really annoys me… and some of the poses are just weird, including the one I used here. Why would anyone stand in front of the door like that? Silly pose!) But here it served my purpose, and I am an opportunist like that 🙂
Miss Guylty has only one more exam to go. On Thursday she has to sit her Music exam.

      • I *think* that one, the StudioBaby on the bed, his photo shoot for the Jackman series and the one with the tie/waistcoat that was used as the magazine cover in O8 are my faves. Only 4, lol, and only maybe. The props and poses may be silly (even tortured in a few shots) but I’m not particular. It is my fave look of his and oof, pretty much anytime he’s in a white button-up or t-shirt, tight trousers and big boots, I’m a goner. Not that horrid white polo but I’d be happy to take that off him. 😳

Glad to hear that Miss G has only one more to go. She can do it!

        • Interesting – I can never really get into the Sarah Dunn photos. They are technically brilliant, of course, but somehow she presents him like a still puppet. The Jackman photos, OTOH, are gorgeous. (Can’t remember which photo they used in O8.)
Miss Guylty is already living it up before the last exam is sat. As a complete first for us, she went out to a club on a weekday (!) yesterday 😂. Mama Guylty will have to get used to her little girl being grown up, now.

  8. On holiday but just wanted to pop in to say this shrine is fab. Lovely Lucas and Proctor with bearded intensity. Case made for RA being a desirable London attraction ❤️

      • Thanks, G. Actually a combined vacation, family reunion and celebrating my granddaughter’s (Michelle’s daughter) graduation from the University of Washington. I’ve never been in the Seattle area before. It’s beautiful here.
Yes, RA would be such an attraction they’d have to add him to the London Pass lol 😆

        • Congratulations to all you fantastic Widoe women (by extension, so to speak) – it never ceases to amaze me that Michelle actually has a grown-up daughter!!! But congrats to your granddaughter. Seattle sounds like a place I would love to visit, too.
RA on the London pass – oh, maybe I’d even reconsider my prior judgment that I would *never* want to live in London…

  9. This shrine is just so lovely, Lucas is my favourite spy and TV role and he was so amazing as John Proctor so the two combined in this are perfect… I think he once said in an interview he lived in London for 20 years so he considers himself to almost be a Londoner… London has been a favourite city ever since I visited it for the first time when I was 16 and I enjoyed my Crucible weekend trip so much that I took another little trip for four days over my birthday the following year and also went to the Old Vic again… lovely memories I don´t want to miss…

    • When I think of RA and London, I also think of Lucas North and of the Crucible. Although completely different, and also quite different in terms of RA’s acting abilities, I still think they are both very important roles for him. Without Lucas NOrth there would have been no Thorin, I suspect…
I came to London really late… I was 28 the first time I visited, and it did not immediately appeal to me. In fact it was more than 10 years later that I really got into London…

  10. My first sighting of RA was Robin Hood and then looking through Netflix I found MI6 and Lucas and that became my fangirling. Love the shrine. Your so talented.

  11. MINE! MINE! MINE! Okay, just kidding but I seriously love this tin and shrine. I’m so glad I caught this post. My laptop crashed and burned. On its own it reset itself to factory settings. I’m trying to retrieve vacation photos from FB and other places. Will have to rebuild all my RA libraries. I’m sick. But my new tablet has a way to store on the mysterious Cloud so hopefully…
I’m trying to plan a self-guided tour for my upcoming trip to England and Wales so I really don’t need this additional headache now. Still hoping to meet you in Cardiff.

    • Oh, glad you like it, Tommie. And so sorry to hear about your laptop woes. That is absolutely horrible. I hope you can resurrect some of your RA picture collections from the cloud.
As for Cardiff – I’m afraid it won’t work out. I’ll spend most of the summer in Germany, helping my mother move out of the family home.

  12. I love the bearded Proctor look! I’m thinking I need to rewatch MI5. I’ve only seen it once, quite early in my fangirling when I borrowed it from the library. Very cool shrine, with the London Spy/London Guy theme.

  13. Such a beautiful and evocative shrine!
I lived in London for a couple of years what it seems an eternity ago and I miss it so much. And Lucas North and John Proctor will always have a very special place in my heart, so you came up with the perfect combination with this lovely tin.
I think this is the first time I take part in one of your raffles, so I hope I have a bit of luck.
Thank you for your creativity, Guylty!

        • Oh asparagus… I so love (white) asparagus. I already had my share in May when I was home. If I am really lucky, I might get the tail-end of the season weekend after next when I am going to Munich…

    • I’d like a little binge-watch with Lucas, too. I haven’t watched the full series of Spooks since 2013. Not sure whether I still have the video files anywhere 😬

  17. Ah, the lovely Lucas! London girl that I am, this is one of my faves. Spooks introduced me to RA and I have been loyal ever since. The shrine is perfect, with the river and the door to match his twinkly eyes and it is all a secret inside such a pretty tin 🙂 xx

    • Perfect tin for you then 🙂 Spooks is also my gateway to RA – Lucas caught my attention late one night, and even though he is not my favourite, I always have a soft spot for him because he made me want to find out more about that actor…

  18. Awww, the London guy.. always love him, always miss him 🙂 I so miss that Lucas panel at work, wonder what became of it.. it would have fit so nicely on the corridor wall on my new place, guarding us you know 🙂
Speaking of i was at a drama indies panel the other day at a work conference and Spooks was mentioned a lot, always positively 🙂 As in stuff people wanted to watch and talk about every week and how hard that is to achieve these days actually. I/they meant the length of it, these days series seem to survive or be able to gather finance on terrestrial broadcast channels for 2-3 year max. So yeah, we remember and miss Spooks a lot in the industry…

    • It is lovely to hear that Spooks left such a big shadow – and such a big gap. It was a good show, and the fact that the industry still remembers it, speaks for its quality.
Does the BBC not have some sort of archive or storage? Maybe Lucas is down there?

      Liked by 1 person

      • Well, we’ve been allowed to keep things on iPlayer for 1 year now and more things will surface from the archives, Not sure what the rights situation is on Spooks but would be lovely if the box sets came back 🙂

        Like

        • Talking of box sets: I have just ordered season 7 of Spooks on DVD. (And I don’t even have a DVD player 😱. Only just realised… That means I also have to order an external DVD player now for my laptop 😂)
