It’s a long-standing tradition that I always make a RAPS for Paddy’s Day. When I say long-standing… since 2016. 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020. RA has no known connections to Ireland other than work colleagues (e.g. Orla Brady, Dervla Kirwan) and film locations (George Gently, Pligrimage) Although due to geographic proximity and historic links, almost everyone in England has an Irish great-granny or two lurking in their family tree, and with RA’s paternal family connected to Leeds and the linen industry, there is a strong possibility there because many Irish people came to Yorkshire during the Industrial Revolution and folling the Great Irish Famine. But who cares! Ireland is my adopted home, and everyone is Irish on St Patrick’s Day! So if you like Ireland, then let’s go green today.
These little mint tins of the “Blink” brand are among my favourite shrine receptacles. Reason being that they feature nice designs and only have a small logo “defacing” the tin.
This particular design with its swirly lines reminds me of the sun spirals so typical for the Irish megalithic age, and of the later Celtic spiral designs.
Let’s peek inside.
The Irish theme continues with a twee cottage in the background and a St Patrick’s Cross in the foreground. Richard has gone green for the day, too.
And he has also put on a blue-green plaid. Fun fact: Tea aficionados might recognise the green background used in the lower half of the tin. Fortnum & Mason’s Royal Blend tea bags come wrapped individually in these little sachets. They are so beautiful, I kept one. And now was the perfect opportunity to use it, making use of the gorgeous bamboo frame design to frame Mr A.
This shrine will be raffled away, so leave a comment on this WordPress blog post and I’ll let randompicker determine the winner. Open for entry until 11.59pm GMT, Thursday 18 March 2021.
I will leave it up to the winner whether they want to go more Irish with the shrine and fix a little St Patrick’s Day reference permanently in the RAPS. It is currently not glued into the shrine, because I felt bad about obscuring the luscious, green, velvet arm, but this is what you could do if you wanted an Irish reference:
So, happy Patrick’s Day to everyone. There won’t be any parades in Ireland today – the second year running. But I’ll put a little shamrock in my buttonhole and parade my green jumper up and down my stairs. Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit!
Top of the morning to you G! Another lovely creation. It’s a lovely start to the morning, sadly no parades again.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day💚💚

Happy P’Day to my fellow Irish fan ☺️. Murphy’s Law: Nice, mild, dry and sunny weather outside today – and NO parade. Typical, eh?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I love it! Dark Green suits him very well. I noticed that I have a lot of green clothes in different shades in my wardrobe. So I will wear a green jumper, too, and will accompany you in your staircase to fill up the parade.

Thank you. I’d love to see the dark green shirt (?) properly. It does look nice in this picture.
I’m not a huge fan of green myself – but I have a petrol-greenish jumper that I am sporting today. Also grabbed one of my son’s football scarves that is green and white striped. All counts 🙂

Happy Saint Patrick‘s Day! ☘️🍀☘️🍀☘️ I had completely forgotten, but then again I’m not sure what day if the week it is atm, let alone the date.
Beautiful shrine. I’d go green with HIM any day. 😜
Good luck to everyone on the draw. I’m gonna sit this one out.

Hehehe, you are excused. It’s not as if the day is really that well known in Ireland… It’s really weird that Paddy’s Day has basically been cancelled here today. Usually it’s a big bash and since I live in the city centre, it’s really noticeable. But today it’s all quiet.

Happy St. Patrick´s Day ☘ to you as well 💕… This RAPS is so lovely, the tin is really sweet and the first pic is my lockscreen since he posted it when I was waiting to board my flight home after getting stuck in Heathrow after seeing Uncle Vanya last year… I´d love to win this ☘💕😊…

Thank you – oh nice, your lockscreen. That’s a nice story and reasoning for having that picture showing on your phone!

No celebrations here in the states either, although there are usually several. Like getting together with just a few friends but this year I guess I’ll be having a beer and watching “The Quiet Man” with the cat. Terrific shrine, G, luv it.

That sounds like a great way of celebrating Paddy’s Day! I have to have a little brainstorming with my Irish hubs to see whether we can come up with an Irish film we want to watch.

Happy St. Pat’s! Another lovely RAPS. I am a bad, bad Irish descendant, no green…I don’t think I own any green clothing. Maybe I will go for a drive later in my roomies green car. lol

Yeah, green is a tricky colour to wear… I have a couple of green-ish items which I only keep because they *might* get an airing on Paddy’s Day… If you go for a drive in the green car, well, that sounds as best as a Paddy’s Day parade will get this year!

Those Blink tins are so pretty. Too bad they no longer sell those in here. That tin is perfect for green RA.

They are just perfect for little shrines. Luckily I still have a few in my stash (provided by you?). And this one really jumped at me for Paddy‘s Day 🙂

Gorgeous! And love your creative thinking and using the tea packet as that lovely background. Green is my favorite color, so RA in green is always such a treat.

It‘s a mixture of creative thinking and cheap-skating *hehe* – using free materials 😉 But in fairness I have to say that I love the challenge of working with left-over material.
RA looks surprisingly good in green!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Neat RAPS, S. He looks good in green. I’m stuck here at home but look forward to the day I can go celebrate in Savannah once again. As far as wearing green – does a teal green sleepshirt count?

Oh M, I hope you both recover soon. And that you are not feeling too shitty right now.
The teal green sleepshirt counts big time. Happy P-Day to you!

St. Patrick’s Day has no significance here but lovely shrine anyway! I already have my precious John Thornton shrine so feel selfish throwing my name in for another one but I love the images you used, so I’ll just be brave and go for it. 🙂

Another gorgeous shrine G, green suits Richard. I’m proud of my Irish roots and have beautiful memories of my holiday there. St Paddy’s day slipped by me for a number of reasons, it wasn’t until hubby asked me last night when it was and I checked the date that I realised.

There must be quite a few people of Irish descent in Australia, I imagine. Enough for your prime minister to send a message of greetings yesterday. 🙂

Late greetings from me too. Forgot all about it, even with corned beef and cabbage waiting in fridge for me to cook (once a year.) I’m definitely losing it; if I ever had it in the first place. Loved the shrine , as always. Things are opening up here. We can eat Inside restaurants, and most schools are open in our county. Theaters open next week and Disneyland end of April. Mr. Jones and I fully vaccinated. Hope everyone else can return to some degree of normalcy soon. I have discovered that I can recognize friends in masks in Costco or grocery store. Kind of weird. But nice to have a chat while socially distanced. On the downside, I can’t understand what they are saying since masks have made me hearing impaired.

Great news that you and Mr J are both vaccinated. That is really good to know, and I hope you can return to a more normal life, soon, especially if some restaurants and shops etc. will reopen.
BTW, I have a similar issue with masks, too. I even find myself sound so muffled, I wonder whether people can understand me (and my accent).
