Feeding the Suspense…

With roughly a couple of weeks to go until the #RA50Auctions, I had meant to give you another update already. But then… life happened. As many of you already know, I had to take my husband to hospital at the beginning of the week. Thank you for all your good wishes and prayers. ❤️ It really lifted my spirits and truly meant a lot to me because I believe in the power of positive thoughts. His hope of only staying in for a night, was dashed, though. They kept him in since Monday, and he is staying for yet another night. At least this time ’round he is getting sleep, as he is not sharing a ward with difficult patients (unlike March). Thank you for your continued good wishes 😌!

Meanwhile, I have been kept busy and distracted by fundraiser preparations. I am currently waiting for a big parcel that is due to be delivered from South Korea. It’s a bit of a saga, so I won’t bore you with that, suffice to say that it is quite astounding how cumbersome international courier delivery seems to be… However, I thought I’d give you a little update – with added suspense – on the auctions…

Here we have a mini view of the items donated for the auctions. What a load – massive thanks to you already. I will credit all the lovely donors properly in a later post. You may be able to identify one or two things… But not too much, because the fun is always in the big reveal.

Speaking of which, I thought I’d feed the suspense about RA’s “surprise” a little more. I showed you the outside packaging from an odd angle the other day, and further confused some by the postcard of an old camera that was placed on top to obscure my address. Here’s another little bit you might find interesting:

The shoe fits! We know that Mr A likes his white Axel Arigato trainers…

I am also pleased to say that I have managed to (mostly) remove the clear sticky tape from the mysterious Mr Porter box. And I have decided to put things into perspective and give you an overview over the proportions…

 

That’s an English penny you see there.

Yes, it’s big.

    What an enormous amount of work is needed to organize an auction! I can only admire you and support virtually from afar ❤️
    As to The Surprise…So it’s quite big? Is it heavy? Or light? 🧐 Could it be a small thing wrapped a hundred times? Or Guy’s costume? 🤔 Suspeeeeense! 😁

        Wie auch immer: Ich kreuze nicht nur die Finger, sondern auch sämtliche Stacheln, dass es ihm bald besser geht – und vor allem auch, dass es so gut wie irgend möglich bleibt. (*seufz* Die beste Krankheit taugt nix … 😦 )

    When the First Contact happened I was in a lovely mountain village, in the only bar with wi-fi. Ah, the silent scream of the undercover fangirl! Very very happy, for you (because you really deserve this), but also for us and for him – the 20th anniversary of 30th b-day comes only once!

Jaaaa, genau diese weißen Sneakern habe ich gemeint 😊 Das Foto hast Du schön eingebaut, ist mir sofort ins Auge gefallen, muss immer wieder lachen (wo sind die bunten Socken geblieben 😉; hier hätten sie wohl nicht so gut ausgesehen). Es stimmt, dass der Karton eher nicht von diesem Paar der Schuhen stammt, aber wer weiß… Das muss ungeklärt bleiben. Ohh, ich bewahre manche schöne feste Schuhkartons lange auf 😊, wenn ich sie zur Aufbewahrung von kleineren Sachen nutze oder zu Geschenkboxen durch Basteln mit schönem Papier umbauen kann, aber zugegeben, 5 Jahre das ist schon lang.
    Da wir schon beim Basteln sind. Sonja, wieso musstest Du mit dem Selbstgemachten zum Geburtstagsgeschenk recht haben… 😊 Als ich das gelesen habe, habe ich ganz vorsichtig nachgefragt, was er von einem von mir selbstgebastelten Geschenk halten würde (dabei habe ich vergessen, dass ich ihm mal vorher die schönen von Dir gebastelten Sachen und die Figürchen von Young gezeigt habe) und er war begeistert (er denkt wohl, dass ich auch so etwas mit ein paar Tipps sebst basteln kann). Das ist (wird) ein Desaster… Du kannst schon ruhig darüber lachen, was daraus wird.
    Die Schachtel sieht nach dem Entfernen des Klebebandes sehr ellegant aus. Ich freue mich schon auf die angekündigte kleine Präsentation. Das wird spannend…

    • Die bunten Socken sind immer das kleine i-Tüpfelchen, obwohl ich ja sagen muss, dass ich nackte Füße in legeren Schuhen extremst sexy finde… Und dass, obwohl ich weiße Sneaker persönlich gar nicht mal so sehr mag… Aber mit Schuhen hat es Herr A ja irgendwie. Ist mir schon oft aufgefallen, dass er einen echten guten Geschmack hat, wenn es um Schuhmode geht.
      Ja, ich hab auch ein paar Schuhkartons gebunkert. In diesem Fall ist der Axel Arigato-Karton aber kein Schuhkarton. Das konntest du in meinem Foto allerdings nicht sehen, weil der Ausschnitt zu klein war. Das ist der normale Versandkarton aus brauner Wellpappe, mit Firmenlogo, in dem dann der entsprechende Artikel von Axel Arigato versendet wurde.
      Hehe, noch mal zum Gebastelten – finde ich ja erstmal klasse, dass dein Gatte etwas Selbstgemachtes wertschätzt. Das ist ja nicht immer bei allen so. Welche von meinen Sachen hat er denn schon mal gesehen? Die Pocket Shrines? Du, die sind nicht schwer zu machen. Es ist nur eine wahre Geduldsarbeit, so kleine Fotos akkurat auszuschneiden. Aber vielleicht ist sowas doch auch eine Idee für ein Geburtstagsgeschenk zum 50.? Du musst ja nicht gleich das Superminiformat versuchen. Schau doch mal, ob du im örtlichen Tabakgeschäft eine hölzerne (oder feste) Zigarrenkiste bekommst. (Die freuen sich meistens, wenn sie die loskriegen können. Ich hab mal in München in einem Tabakgeschäft 10 fantastische Holzkisten geschenkt gekriegt – die waren froh, dass sie jemand nimmt.) Daraus kann man super eine “Memory Box” basteln – da druckst du für die Rückwand ein Foto groß auf Papier, z.B. von einem Landschaftsbild aus eurem schönsten Urlaub. Und dann schneidest du dir dich und deinen Mann aus Fotos aus und klebst euch davor und garnierst das Ganze mit kleinen Dingen, die du vielleicht als Souvenirs noch vom Urlaub hattest – Sand und Muscheln, Steine, ein Zuckertütchen, ausländisches Geld… Sowas geht auch toll als Verpackung für einen Geschenkgutschein. Oder für jedes Thema – ggf. mal die alte Spielzeugkiste der Kinder nach kleinen Playmobilteilchen durchsuchen, oder im Euro-Shop (Tedi, Action und Co.) in der Kinderabteilung schauen, was die so für Kleinkram haben… Ich bin sicher, dass du definitiv etwas selber basteln kannst. Wenn du magst, sag mir doch einfach, was *du* gerne basteln würdest, und wenn ich dazu einen Tipp habe, dann teile ich den mit dir 😀

      • Jetzt sehe ich, dass der Axel Arigato – Karton kein Schuhkarton ist, sondern ein Versandkarton aus Wellpappe. Bei genauem Hinsehen kann man das erkennen. So etwas wird nicht lange aufbewahrt, höchstens ein paar Tage für die eventuelle Rücksendung der Ware. Das heißt aber, dass die Mr. Porter Schachtel größer sein muss, als ich ursprünglich dachte. Die weißen Sneaker sehen in der Tat selten gut aus, aber auf dem Foto präsentieren *sie* 😉 sich ausgezeichnet. Hihi, ich meinte doch, dass die Socken hier fehl am Platz wären und dass Du das Foto schön eingebaut hast… 😊
        Vielen herzlichen Dank für die Tipps zum Basteln 😊. Du bist ein Schatz und ein Genie!!! Seit gesterm zerbreche ich mir den Kopf darüber, was man aus Fotos basteln könnte (das war das Einzige, was ich mir zugetraut habe) und es ist mir nur ein lustiges Fotoalbum mit alten und neuen Fotos eingefallen; was endgültig beweist, dass ich mich da nicht ran machen sollte). Die Idee mit der Holzbox mit den Muscheln, Sand, Playmobilteilchen usw. ist einfach brilliant!!! Er mag Boxen aus schönem Holz und das Meer (somit habe ich schon die von uns gesammelten Muscheln und Sand parat und begebe mich auf die Suche nach einer Holzbox). Bei Dir sind ihm sofort die Minibücher ins Auge gefallen, weil er Bücher sehr mag (aber denk mal nicht in einem Traum, das ich mir so etwas zutrauen und es auch schaffen würde…). Es ist schon lieb von ihm, aber wie kann man von „*den* Geburtstag versuche ich zu ignorieren“ (klingt ja irgendwie bekannt 😉) zu dem Satz „ohh, ein von dir selbst gebasteltes Geschenk, das wäre aber nett“ so schnell übergehen.
        Ich hoffe, dass Dein Mann heute schon nach Hause kommt. Sollte ich keine weiteren Fragen zum Basteln an Dich haben oder zu der kleinen Präsentation der Überraschung nicht erscheinen, dann bedeutet das eindeutig, dass ich mich selbst an irgendetwas mit einem Sekundenkleber (ist er für Muscheln und Sand geeignet?) festgeklebt habe… 😉

        • Ja, die Porter Schachtel ist definitiv größer als eine, in die die von dir in einem früheren Kommentar angedachte Mykita-Sonnenbrille hineinpassen würde 😉. Aber was bedeutet die Größe schon bei einem so enthusiastischen Verpackungsfreund wie Herrn A? 😁 Es bleibt noch ein bisschen spannend.
          Ui, und ich freu mich, wenn ich dir mit meinem (ungefragten) Rat einen kleinen Anstoß geben konnte. Ich finde ja, du solltest es einfach mal versuchen – und wenn’s dir nicht gefällt, kannst du es immer noch in die Tonne kloppen. 😀
          LOL, was das schnelle Umschalten vom Gatten angeht. Ist jedoch ein wunderbarer Beweis, dass es ihm wahrlich nicht um finanzielle Werte geht, sondern um etwas Persönliches, Einzigartiges, etwas von DIR! Und ja, stehe jederzeit mit Rat und Tat zur Verfügung 🙂.

    i find it interesting that he previously has given the impression that he doesn’t know much about clothes/style but if you check his Instagram follows, he’s definitely got an interest in men’s fashion

    • That was my question, too. 😂 Probably recent purchases, right?
      Ah, I have no idea about his IG follows. But he has definitely started taking much more of an interest in what he wears, even if with the (occasional) help of a stylist. I do wonder, though, whether celebs like him would also receive gifted designer gear, a bit like influencers do?
      Hoping to pick up Mr Guylty from the hospital today. Fingers crossed!

  15. Hoping all is well with Mr Guylty and he will be coming home to continue his recovery in your good hands. It looks like the donations coming in are phenomenal and the suspense is starting to mount. It’s going to be especially exciting to see all of them revealed bit by bit. That’s a mighty special package RA has generously donated -I’m sure whatever it is -he has given it his always thoughtful consideration. This years auction is gearing up to be as special as his milestone birthday. What fun!

    • Thank you Donna 😘. I was able to bring him home yesterday, and the swelling in his legs is much better, so he continue his recuperation at home.
      The items for the auction have me all excited, too. Not only Richard’s but also the items from our fan sisters are all really cool. Lots of unique things, and many things never seen before, so that will actually be really exciting to see.
