New Project for Richard

Well, hello, if this isn’t worth a second post today:

Erotic Thriller????????? *eeeeeeeeek* See the article by The Hollywood Reporter .

I have a sneaky feeling that I watched the earlier screen adaptation with Jeremy Irons way back when. See trailer below. (Possible spoilers!)

🔥🔥🔥🔥 😱 🔥🔥🔥🔥

*coughing fit*

And as a mini series no less. That will give much more time for development of the whole love triangle. Not sure if my heart will be able to endure such 😬.

But hey, looks like there is still a demand for “dad bods” (my arse!!!) in today’s streaming world.

I can’t wait and I suspect this could be a project that might catapult RA right up there. Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ is where it’s at these days. RA has carved out quite a nice niche on Netflix so far, with two lead roles under his belt. That hasn’t quite catapulted him to the top yet. But a *slightly* scandalous (I wish) erotic thriller might create the attention he deserves as a dramatic leading man… Fingers crossed!

  1. But kidding aside, I agree with you. He is making an impact at Netflix which is key in today’s media landscape. I think there are interesting times ahead…

    • Big time. And this is just the right project at the right age. I mean, he is perfect as a hellishly hot mature man. 🔥 Umph, even just thinking about that makes my stomach flutter 😱

          • It’s as close as we’ve gotten (Harry Kennedy aside), but the focus is probably gonna be more on sex and drama (not that I’m complaining) rather than actual romance which requires a happy ending. But to reprise an acclaimed Jeremy Irons role is great in itself.

Yep, I don’t necessarily see a lot of romance for good ole William. (I remember how it played out in the original.) Quite frankly, I am amused that RA has so enthusiastically taken on this role after whingeing about having to take his kit off 😂. Maybe he just wanted to be asked? 😉

              • (Kein Wunder, bei dem Thema. 🔥)
Yeah, one does wonder. I think he likes getting confirmation that he’s still got it, whatever he proclaims. Maybe the gentleman does protest too much.

  2. I’ve definitely seen the Jeremy Irons’ version, being a fan of Rupert Graves – who, 30 years on, could have himself be playing RA’s role. (Not that I’m objecting, of course!)

    • Rupert Graves was absolutely yummy in that role. (And I suspect he was what attracted me to the film – after first having seen him in “A Room with a View” in the 1980s.) I agree, he would also make a really convincing William.

  3. Amazing news!!! I would also like to enjoy him on big screen and in something romantic (e.g. “Sense and sensibility” as colonel Brandon). Yes, I ‘m always looking desperately for love.

  4. Oh my, just watching the original trailer above, I’m drooling at the thought of RA in those sexy scenes. I’m rapt that he’s getting so much work on Netflix. It’s fabulous seeing him on the cinema screen, but even more so on the TV where I can watch repeatedly and at my own leisure. This looks like one that will definitely be on repeat. 😉
I’m wondering where Now and Then fits into his schedule, if at all, it’s been eighteen months since it was announced. There’s been no news from a film set after his Father Quart role and he’s been narrating audio books which seem to me to fill his down time between projects.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how far they go with the “erotic” thriller… I was discussing it with Mr Guylty this morning, and he pointed out that there has been quite a trend towards very sexually explicit material, sometimes almost blurring the line between soft porn and “normal” explicitness. Not sure how I feel about that… I don’t fully remember the plot from the 1992 feature film, but I just hope that RA isn’t going to be the (usual) villain of the piece.
Now and Then has all but vanished, once again. I wonder what is up with that. Did they ever even set a shooting date? I guess The Man from Rome is in post-production now…

  5. As soon as I saw “erotic” thriller, the prayer started: Please, please, pleeeeeeze let him be the subject (or initiator!) of the eroticism, not a side role as some youngster’s dad…YESSSSSSSSS, it is so. Oh joooooooy. And after the trailer, OMG HE WILL BE PERFECT IN THIS ROLE!!! More time for the love triangle? MORE SCREEN TIME FOR RICHARD ARMITAGE. And he’s way sexxxxier than Jeremy Irons!!! (And doesn’t have that annoying posh accent.) I can’t wait for this!!!

    • Haha, it never even occurred to me that he could be anyone other than the obsessed father of the fiancée. He’ll be great in that role – he has got the look, including that hint of danger. If they keep the characters much like in the original, we might see a very suave, besuited politician… I hope that Netflix is going to do lots of promo from the set!

  6. I do remember the film, most especially the heat and intensity brought by Irons. Even though I’m anxious to see how they handle the sex scenes (it’s not like we haven’t seen Richard’s bare bum before), I’m more interested his portrayal of obsession beyond all rational thought. Yes, this could be the role that catapults him to stardom.

    • Netflix being a private streamer, I suspect there will be a good bit of “naked truth” involved. I confess that I am somewhat curious how that will play out, but I have no doubt that the portrayal of the obsessive dynamic will be far more interesting to me. And I am sure that he will excel at that. He has proven how capable he is of playing that hint (or more) of madness as Thorin and as Dolarhyde. I wonder what is on his playlist this time ’round…

  7. I was going to say hold your horses, he’s probably going to reprise his classic role as Man in Pub. Until I read the Deadline article. Colour me disappointed – NOT. 😂

Guylty – sorry I’ve been AWOL. Much love to you and your family, and congrats on the magnificent fundraiser.

  8. I remember the Jeremy Irons, Juliette Binoche film version. At the time, it seems like it was pretty explicit, but I might be remembering it wrong. Maybe the explicit aspect is the Irons/Binoche affair? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Also don’t know if I can handle watching it with the hubs with RA is playing Dr. Stephens part. Might require a more mature mind than either of us have. Yikes!

  9. By now I have the feeling the statement “not going to take my shirt off because age” (or something along the lines) was some weird British humour that went straight over my head. Ever since he did take various items of clothings off… a lot. And this is just the cherry on top. I mean… I am not complaining. Just wondering and also being amused.

    • LOL – I think I will join you right there, Owl. Mind you, I never believed a single word of his “I’m looking forward to 50 because then I don’t have to take my kit off anymore”. Trawling for compliments – or weird British humour 😉
