Have you already been waiting for this notice? I am sorry that I am so late. I’ve been meaning to write a post for the last few days, but I’ve been busy. In the meantime I have received several messages, asking whether the fundraiser is going to happen this August again, and a couple of packages have reached me with items for the sale and auction. So, yes, the fundraiser is coming *confetti* *balloons* *fanfare*

Here is what I am thinking in terms of timeframe and dates: Working backwards from RA’s birthday on the 22nd of August, experience has taught me that we need *ample* time for eBay and Etsy to transfer the proceeds of auctions and sale to my account, in order for me to make the final donation on the day of Richard’s birthday. In the past I’ve had some issues with that, and therefore I propose to schedule the auctions from Monday 8th of August to Thursday 11th August. Once the auctions are finished, I will then open the Etsy store for the sale items from Thursday – either until sold out or until Sunday evening, 14th August. That will leave me 5 business days for the monies to be transferred to me, hopefully in time for the final donation on Monday, 22nd August. Does that make sense?
Just to manage expectations, there won’t be as many auctions as last year. While I have a number of items already earmarked for the auctions, there will be less than the 50 items we had on offer last year. The big 5-0 was a special deal, if you know what I mean 😉.

But don’t worry, there will be lots of interesting bits and pieces, handmade and original, used and new. Sonja’s trusty old Excel sheet has already come out and plenty of fan items are on my list.
And even more exciting, the Etsy sale is shaping up to have a really exciting range of different, handmade items on offer. Without giving too much away, I can already say that Kate has been busy creating her much-loved RA tags, Anne and Ani are collaborating again for some unique items, Poppy has put together some one-of-a-kind pieces, and Esther has been creative with the printers again. I’ll be adding a variety of handmade pieces, too.

If anyone still would like to add something to the auctions or the sale, there is still a little bit of time to do so – but not much. Postal times are rather long these days, so if you want to contribute, please get in touch quickly 😉.
Just one more thing. I have been asked which charity we are benefitting this time round. Personally, I quite like the idea of (consistently) supporting *one* charity, i.e. in this case LOROS who have been our beneficiaries for the last few years. However, I had a look at Richard’s Just Giving site, and the fundraising site in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK which he had opened for Christmas and New Year 2021 is still live. Both causes are personal and close to his heart. I prefer using either one of those as opposed to another/ a new cause because both LOROS via MuchLoved as well as Pancreatic Cancer UK via Just Giving are directly connected to Richard and he will thus receive notification of our donation and birthday message as soon as it is made. Let me know what you think!
Otherwise – sit back, put a few pennies aside, and relax. Fundraiser fun coming your way!!!

YAY!!! I’m very much looking forward to the fundraiser and can’t wait to see what’s on offer this time. Sadly, no jacket…. but still, I’m sure there will be lots of wonderful things.
Luckily I will be back from my vacation with the time frame you suggested, so I’m fine with that. And my vote would go to LOROS when it comes to recipient, I can imagine hospices get less donations than medical science institutions. Just guessing though. And they seemed to be genuinely happy according to their thank you messages!

Glad to hear you will be around for the fundraiser, Jali! Yep, the jacket was an exception 😉 But we will have fun regardless (or jacket-less 😂)
I also favour LOROS as the recipient. I generally believe that we can the biggest difference with our donations when we focus on ONE charity ALWAYS and consistently, rather than splitting it up.

It looks like you’ve got a lot on your plate. I know you’re up for. Looking forward to it.

I am a firm believer in the theory that the more you have on your plate, the more you get done 😉. The fundraiser is a fixture in my calendar.

Yaaaay my first Richard Birthday fundraiser promising all the special items made with love by Talented Hands —and thank you, Guylty, for all your efforts! Can’t wait for the “merch”!

Oh, Sonja, how exiting news!!! I was looking forward to that information. I am sure there will be a lot of items waiting for their new owners. Every single euro, pound, dollar, whatever, will make the difference and we will feel for once more very proud of beeing members of the RA army. And I have a personal reason of beeing extra happy… It’s because on August 13th I have my birthday!!! As far for the charity organisation, I think we can share the amount of money in half. Just a thought…

Oh, that’s going to make it an extra special day then! Thank you for your support and your enthusiasm, Poppy!

Awesome! I was going to do something for it but since I haven’t even started yet I wonder.. ofc I could send the item from here if that’s possible.

If you still would like to contribute something, there is still a little bit of time. As long as I get photos and descriptions in time for setting up the sale and/or auction, I’ll try to include anything that has been offered 🙂

Looking forward to emptying my pockets on this one, hopefully quicker on the trigger than last year!

Hehe, trigger-happy? Well, the auctions run for 3 days, anyway, and for the Etsy sale I will split the items in batches again so that the access is evened out a bit.

I’m happy to hear the fundraiser will happen again but also a bit sad about the date of the etsy sale 😦 It seems that I’m not destined to have much luck with those. I’ll be travelling towards Italy for my holidays with the hubby on that day (11/08) so unlikely going to able to “jump” on line at an established time to try to grab the items that I like. Never mind, the important thing is raising money for a good cause and celebrate Richard’s bday at the same time 🙂

Don’t worry, Manu. I am going to split the Etsy sale into batches again so that not all items will go on sale at the same time. I’ll leave 24 hours in between so that others have a chance to buy something, too.

Brilliant thank you 🙂

Oh I am glad that this summer highlight is going ahead. Thank you Guylty for taking up the reins once again. I like your idea of the recipient being the pancreatic cancer charity and funding research. Perhaps we could alternate and donate to LOROS if there is a Christmas fundraiser? Poppy’s
suggestion of splitting the proceeds is a good idea too.
I have one ‘craft’ item to threaten, I mean donate to, the auction, sprung from the five items project and to be posted by me.

Oh, that is an interesting suggestion, J. I am usually of the opinion that donations are most effective when they focus on ONE charity consistently. So I am not so much in favour of splitting the proceeds. But your suggestion is an option that would also provide consistency.
Hooray for your contribution. Glad to have it in the auctions – just send me photos and descriptions in advance and it will be in. Thank you for your steadfast support!!!

Yay for the good news! But, as things are, I will be, probably, only watching and spreading the word. My wallet is stretched to the limit *facepalm*
And the idea of splitting the proceeds sounds great.

Watching and spreading the word is much appreciated, Andrea. We are happy to have you on board. (And we do not want anyone to overstretch their finances, especially not at this time!)

Just a quick comment: There will be Tags and RAngels 🤞🏻and a thing or three for the auction (tbd by Guylty and myself).
I vote against splitting the proceeds. I’m fine with either charity but would prefer one sum. Just my two cents.

I only realised after posting that I wanted to link to one of your tweets with the tags… RAngels *yay*
I am with you on focussing on ONE charity.

I’m sure the BD fundraising will be great fun, and as always you will be a star, dear Sonja! ❤️
Sigh 😔 I can’t participate this time since Russian bank cards are disconnected from SWIFT (no international payments ☹️). Will be only watching 😭

Thank you, Olga. I am so sorry that you have been cut off this year. The situation is really harsh. The postal service won’t even take letters to Russia right now 🥲

I’ll send a few handmade things for the auction. I was hoping to make more of them, but I couldn’t, I’ll try to ship them next week. Is your address still the same?

Hi Ilaria – that sounds wonderful. Yes, the address is unchanged. Thank you so much for your support. Looking forward to seeing what you have made!

I’ve just about finished something I intended putting in for the fundraiser. Hopefully I’ll get photos etc to you next week. No biggie if I’m too late and you have enough items, there’s always the next fundraiser!!

We can always do it in such a way that you send the items to the buyer yourself. As long as I get photos and descriptions in time, I can set up listings for the items.

That’s what I thought, cut out the extra mail travel time, I’m happy to post the items direct.

Yay! Thanks for doing this again! I do have a request, though. Is there any way that the auction items can end on the weekend, instead of on a work day? Not complaining, but just wanted to explain what happened to me last time … It used to be that bidders would bid until they reached their max and then back out, and I was fine with losing out that way. The bidding style in the last few years has changed, such that people are waiting and then bidding 1 euro higher right at the last second. That is not a great way to lose out, when I would have been happy to go higher on the item I really wanted (which was a DVD). What happened was that the bidding closed at 10:30 a.m. my time during a work day, when I was in a meeting and could not possibly place a bid. So, long story short, if there is any way you can have the auction items end on the weekend, that would be wonderful for those of us in different time zones. 🙂
I would vote for LOROS again.

I’ve been eyeball deep in work getting ready for CCI and as usual trying to get caught up since getting back. Although I was selfish and spent several hours imposing myself on Kathy Jones then allowing her to boss me into eating instead of talking to her and her hubs. Even tho eating was not why I was visiting her at her home, it was to talk about what we were wrapping up at CCI and other catching up topics.
Kathy is too sweet and would give me cavities if I let her, but I like her a lot so I tolerate her sweetness even tho it’s her mind that has me wanting to talk to her and see her when I can. Selfish I know, but at least I admit it. Haha
Damn me and my tangents. Hubs asked if I would check something on my phone when I noticed your August fundraiser tweet. Thank goodness!
So IMO, I like the consistency of donations/support of the same charity you’ve been giving the raised funds to, but it’s your hard work girl, so I’ll support your decision.
🌷
For the record, I mostly support No Kill shelters. Hubs told me many years ago to pick one because I can’t afford them all. I do what he says sometimes, shocker, I know.😄

So glad to hear that you had time to see Kathy – even if she made you eat rather than talk 😉
