The god of fundraisers has heard my pleas. Or rather: *You* have heard my pleas. I woke up this morning to the hoped-for breakthrough. Phew. So glad, because that means I didn’t make this edit for nothing. 😉

So, we’ve broken the €2,000 barrier. That is £1690.46 or US$2052.51. Wonderful news. 

We are now in the final 6 hours of the charity auctions. 

I am hoping for a little more movement before the auctions end, just to cover the eBay fees and actually guarantee us a net profit that reflects the amazing breakthrough sum above. FYI, eBay charges one final value fee for sold items. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus a fixed fee per order. The variable final value fee is 11% for the portion of the total amount of the sale up to €1,990 and 2% for the portion of the total amount of the sale above €1,990. In practice that means that we have to pay a fee of €218.90 for the €1,990 proceeds, plus a little more for whatever we make above €1990. The fixed fee per order is €0.35, so €11.90. So our *real* net profit at this point is actually €1,759.20. Ooops, and that doesn’t yet take into account our postage costs. 😬 Hm. I wonder whether the final “tornado” will top up that number a little bit, so that Lucas has not crash-landed in vain 😉.

Actually, I am pretty sure that our final tally will shift a good bit in the last moments of the auctions. At least that is how it has been in previous years. Whatever we make, I am grateful already for your attention, your bids, your tweets and comments.

One last note to all who are still in the running for one or more of the items

There is no need to get in touch with me once an auction ends and you have won an item. eBay will send you an automatic notification that confirms you are the new owner of the item. If you receive that, then there is no need to worry. The winner will thus have been confirmed in the system and no one can take the item away from you. In some cases, buyers receive an automatic invoice. In other cases *I* have to send the invoice manually. I would ask you to please be patient and wait for the invoice and *not* send me messages. As you know, the auctions all end within minutes of each other, over a period of 62 minutes. And at the same time I will also be engaged with live-tweeting the last minutes of the auctions. So I can’t reply to messages *immediately* during that time. There may be a short delay until you receive the invoice but I guarantee I will send them from about 4pm GMT+1. This is also the best strategy because there may be some of you who have bid and won several items and eBay can then create *one* invoice for *all* your items instead of several individual invoices. That makes payment easier for you, and organising shipment easier for *me*.

For all who may be pipped at the post in the auctions – please do not fret! The fixed-price sale with some amazing items will go online a couple of hours after the last auction this evening. I will notify you here on blog once the Etsy sale is live.
