Oh baby, it’s cold outside. Ireland is in the throes of ‘the Beast from the East’. Having been bombarded with advance warnings and status orange weather alerts, the Arctic weather front finally made it to Ireland last evening. The snowflakes were tiny, but there were so many of them, it literally only took minutes for the whole road to be covered in white.
Supposedly, this only the start of the bad weather. The snow showers are expected to get really heavy from today. I think I need to warm up.
And how better to warm up than with a little shrine concoction. In all honesty, today’s shrine is not “not that kind of hot”. No naked flesh, I’m afraid, to fan the internal flames. But well, in the whole circus of Armitage roles, even the fully clothed characters can generate some heat.
This delicious little tin came to me all the way from Australia, fancy that! Big thanks to Mezzie 😘. It’s so cute, I loved the colours and the vintage design at first sight. Le manège enchanteur – the enchanting circus round. And then I kind of made a Freudian slip…
Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s called ménage à trois. The spelling is deliberate. Honestly. But hey, who cares about a switched vowel, anyway. Let’s just say that that particular mènage up there really covers all the angles. Someone to keep you warm, someone to love gently and ardently, and someone to pursue possessively. And that’s just the cat *miaow*, never mind that black panther front right!!! 😵
And here is the ringmaster himself, welcoming the adoring public to his circle of influence… or so…
There is space for a candle in this shrine, as ever – but I actually didn’t try it out because the holder is only glued in. The lid was too nice to deface it with a hole for the candle holder.
Please forgive me for indulging, but just because I was so pleased with my set-up, including the beautiful painting I used for it, here’s another one.
If you are interested and would like to see more of the painting in the background, you can see the watercolour study that was the sketch for the painting on the website of the National Gallery of Ireland where it is illustrating an upcoming exhibition on the 250th anniversary of the first British circus.
Whose heart needs warming? Applications by comment on this post 😉. The recipient will be decided by randompicker on Friday, 2 March, 12pm GMT. Shrine will be sent anywhere in the world, no p&p!
Stay safe & warm with all that snow. It’s a pain to deal with.
Love the shrine. Could definitely use Thorin to keep me warm.

I’d say snow has a different meaning to those of you who have weeks and months of it, every year. Over here, it is a rare occurrence, and when it happens, I love it because it reminds me of home. But then again, I have the luxury of living centrally, and working from home, so it doesn’t impact me so much. Nonetheless, I would also like a big, furry Thorin to keep me warm 😉

Lovely shrine, and with Guy in it! 🙂
We are having cold weather too. Here in Verona it doesn’t snow yet, but it did in Rome (and that’s a very unlikely event. I grew up in Rome and I remember seeing my first snow when I was 8 or 9, and then never again until I moved to Verona at 25)
It’s going to snow tomorrow, of course on the day when we have to travel to take our niece to the airport in a city a couple of hours of train from here. I hope there won’t be delays because of the snow.

I saw pictures of Rome covered in snow, too 😳. The cold snap has all of Europe in its grip, it seems. I hope you’ll get to the airport safely. If you are travelling by train, you are at least not exposed to the dangers of the road!

My niece and my mother in law were thinking of going there by car, but I pointed out that train would be safer.

We have at least 10cm of snow now and it’s only today the heavy snow is due to arrive. Somehow I don’t think I’m going to make it into the studio today (or probably for the rest of the week!)

Yep! I hate to think what people outside of towns are faced with this morning. Luckily, over here the schools have been shut down for the day. We now have a status red weather alert, so public life has ground to a halt for the moment. Stay safe, Yve!

Oh, nette Sache. Und ja, sehr passend, denn der Schnee kommt heute wirklich vom Meer. Aus dem Osten. Also ist die irische Ostküste v.a. betroffen.

What a delightful thought, Monica! But wait a minute, do you mean our guy or Guy? I can easily picture RA frolicking in the snow (also cf. the first story here: https://guylty.net/guylty-ficlets/), but Sir Guy, I imagine, would be standing at the side, arms crossed, a smirk on his lips (and secretly wishing he could join in with the fun.)

Allan should push him in the snow and then run away so that he wouldn’t be in the reach of Guy’s sword. And then they could begin a snowballs fight 🙂

I think we’ll get more snow yet in the next 2 days and as the temperatures in my house are plummeting company under the duvet or round the house would be very welcome! One can make me tea, the other can cook a stew and the other.. oh well, i’ll find him something to do.. like letting a bath or something ;-))))
My question is, would sensible Mr T have to intervene to keep Thorin and Guy fighting over me????
(no entry as you know…. my Proctor is keeping me warm… though i have to find a bit of cloth to cover the bare chested guy during this freeze, don’t want him to catch a chill ;-))

I think Mr T would be more sensible if he let Thorin and Guy get distracted by a fight – and then swoop in and claim you for himself 😉
Nice idea to set the company of three to work. Right now I would like one of them to warm my feet, another to massage my shoulder, and the third one to just look pretty. Haven’t yet decided who does what, although Guy has point blank refused to do any menial work involving my feet. Pah.

Oh my goodness! Where do you get your ideas? Combining his characters in one tin. An adorable tin. I know I’ve said before that you seem to have wonderful tins with flip lids over there. All we have is Altoids and Sucrets.
I promise it would have a good home here near the Gulf of Mexico. So sorry the Gulf Stream isn’t keeping you warm. I miss the snow. We’re already in the 70s but with good breezes, perfect Houston Rodeo weather. Sadly, this winter destroyed my backyard. Some plants I knew wouldn’t survive, even though I covered them but I’m bereft that my 25 yr old Oleanders that I grew from 100+ yr old bushes that survived the Great 1900 Galveston Hurricane.
Sorry, I digressed. I just can’t stop crying over their loss. And the Sego palms all over the area. I hope your snow covered garden survives.

That is such a shame, when plants that have survived other natural catastrophes suddenly pack it in. They are almost like pets, in that way.
I am seeing the whole freak weather scenario as a big adventure. We are dry and (relatively) warm inside, and since our house is centrally located, I could easily go to a shop and stock up if I need anything. Well, that is if the shops continue to be open. All considered, I think they are overdoing it a bit at the moment with regard to weather warnings. Yes, it’s windy, but it’s not particularly cold, and there is only a thin layer of snow out there. Conditions that are normal where I come from. But well, Ireland is not used to it, so it makes people wary and nervous. I am hoping for more snow, actually.
As for the pretty tins – well, these were from Australia, but yeah, there are plenty of cute tins available here. Actually, I must go through my stash and take some pictures and show them off.

Hehe, you won’t get warmth here, either. It doesn’t usually get below freezing point in winter. But neither does it get particularly warm in the summer (between 55 and 60F tops). If you want wind and rain, this is the place.

It almost sounds like bragging when I say we hit 81 yesterday, although it’s cooler today and the wind is ferocious. I guess I thought you’d have snow piled up like Edinburgh does. If snow just coats the grass blades, everything shuts down. But that doesn’t happen often. Although there was enough back in January for the kids to make little foot tall snowmen…don’t laugh. We have to work with what we’re given.
I also apparently am the only person in the neighborhood that has an ice scraper in my car, one I’ve had since the ’80s in Dallas.

81????????? OMG, that’s tropical. In February!!!
Nope, snow not piling up yet. But just heard on the news that they are expecting up to a meter of snow for tomorrow. Yay – I am looking forward to that. Currently it is not the snow but the gale force winds that I find eerie. They are rattling our old windows, howling in our chimney. A few hundred homes in various parts of Dublin are cut from the electricity, though, and that sort of thing would worry me. Hope the winds will not damage any vital electricity lines for us…

It started snowing here too. In a hour and a half we have to take a taxi to go to the station, hoping that there aren’t cancelled trains or delays. A few days ago some train got 27 hours of delay.
And then we have to take a bus to the airport and hope that our niece’s flight can depart. After that of course we have to go back home.
If it wasn’t for this, I’d have loved to stay at home and taking pictures of mini Guy and friends in the snow…

We’ve had a hot summer here, it was reported that we can’t expect autumn weather to really come through until mid April. Today has been mild, but only a temporary relief, it’s warming up again into the 30C’s. We’ve had very little rain, and everything is so dry, I would welcome some cold, wet weather at the moment!
So pleased you like the little tin, Guylty, and I LOVE what you’ve done with it! I’ve been keeping a look out for RAPS- suitable tins ever since you started creating them, but hadn’t been able to find any. Then, out of the blue, I discovered these in a gift shop – luckily they were empty so I didn’t have to munch my way through any contents before I sent them off! (not an entry)

And thanks again for those tins. They are so cute, and I really wanted to do something with them asap. Whenever I get tins that have non-commercial designs, they tend to spark ideas. In that sense I prefer them to other tins. Like in Australia, such tins can sometimes be found in gift or souvenir shops here, too. I find it hard to resist them…
