EDD -15 and the tidying-up frenzy has spread from pre-travel planning to my blog and my RL. I can’t leave for six weeks and leave things in a mess, so I have finally done all the blog-related updates that were long on my list. The “Guylty *ooof*lets” have been brought up to scratch, i.e. the last four *ooof*lets have been added to the page. And I have added Mitchell McCormack to the ongoing List of Armitage Photo Shoots, and updated the *ooof* links where needed. (A lot of Sarah Dunn since August 2014…)
If that all sounds very calm and organised – you have been fooled! Time seems to be passing rapidly at the moment, and I have plenty of things to do in preparation for going away, never mind the blog. Add to that the ever-incoming new tweets and news by you-know-who, and the worry about the future of my fangirling (can I really (afford to) miss Hannibal? should I start re-training my gag-reflex *now*?), as well as a general feeling of excitement and nervous anticipation about this forthcoming trip. Don’t get me wrong, I am super-excited about going on my NZ adventure, I look forward to it and can’t wait. It will be summer over there, and I will be allowed to photograph every day and all day; I will see beautiful sights and (hopefully) meet lots of new, interesting people. But I am also sad about absenting myself from the very community that supported me so much last year, first in my artistic shrining endeavours, and then in my private sorrows. [sentimentality] *sniffs* I’ll miss you!! [/sentimentality]
But hey, let’s make this a light-hearted post!
I went through the house today and suddenly noticed that there are plenty of little things dotted on a window sill here and a mantlepiece there, that remind me – not of Richard but of my fandom. Richard doesn’t need many tangible reminders, anyway – he’s never far from my mind 😉 and even the misguidedly-given Benedict Cumberbatch calendar in my kitchen (yeah, what sort of friends are those who cannot remember my OOA???? Really…) can not distract me… It’s really nice, actually, because it reminds me of the generosity, kindness and friendship of the fandom.
Who’s that? Hiding in the hyacinths? Why, deco-Thorin has survived the post-Christmas cull and is currently fighting the flowers on the mantlepiece. Best thing: Mr Guylty took at least a week until he discovered Thorin lurking in plain sight… I think deco-Thorin is now firmly established in the interior design of Casa Guylty.
Someone gave you a Cumberbitch calendar?????????? I’m speechless 😂

I’m tellin’ ya!!!!!!! A friend gave it to me, as a birthday present. I very spontaneously but ungraciously burst out “But that is the wrong MAN!!!!!!!!!!” I was so disappointed :-(. I wanted to give the calendar away to someone who would properly appreciate Cumberbatch-eye candy but was told off by Mr Guylty. He said it would be rude to do so. A present has to be cherished, even if unwanted. And thus Cumberbatch hangs on the wall – much to my chagrin.

That is so funny! Mr. Guylty sternly insisting that you properly appreciate the Cumberbatch eye candy!

I don’t think there is a printed RA calendar, is there? Someone’s missing a trick…

I’ve been long thinking that, Helen. Maybe the pics are too expensive??? SD could do a nice sideline, though… Or Ascroft.
I might banish Cumberbatch to the side of the kitchen cabinets…

She’s on Tumblr – I’m sure I spelled it wrong. She also goes by RA Characters-Home, or something. She usually puts on this months Richard-artwork calendar the first week of the month and she usually does several. I think she’s doing a Guy-centric one this year, as well as several others. You can take your pick. (I put them ALL in my wall paper cue, now that I’ve learned HOW to do it! )

Oh, you mean the printable ones. I see. I was referring to shop-bought “official” ones… 🙂

I don’t think my Hubby would care to find Thorin in the bedroom, or anywhere else. I inadvertently left my preoccupied photo folder open the other day, and he spotted this. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one eyebrow so elevated… https://preoccupiedwitharmitage.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/stallion1.jpg

No, my hubs would probably raise his eyebrows all the way down to his neck if he found Thorin in the bedroom… but then again, that feels like a bit of a challenge to me *cackles*

Oh dear, (gulp) my hubs would not be happy to see that image at all. He would make it clear who was the king under the mountain in our house. Which doesn’t necessarily mean it would be a bad thing to have a refresher course on… Hey, (as lightbulb turns on over my dim brain) maybe I CAN have my cake and eat it too! Never thought of it that way before.

LOL! Yep. I was smacking myself upside the head. And I do believe Hubby made some sort of comment to the effect of “So you like that sort of thing, do you?” At which point, we were interrupted by the kids and the folder was clicked closed before curious kid questions commenced…. =)

Ah, the fine art of re-gifting is so unappreciated :). To this day a cousin and I dispute whether she re-gifted something I gave her. I have no problem with re-gifting in general, I just thought it was hilarious that she re-gifted it to me! 🙂
Never fear! Hannibal will be here when you return. The one personal fangirling truth I’ve had to establish is that there are definitely times when I am not able to be on the front edge of new Armitage material. I’ve been working on it and am now postively zen about The Crucible download 🙂

Totally agree with you. I think re-gifting is perfectly fine, especially when you know that you will make someone else really happy with an otherwise unsuitable or unappreciated gift. Hilarious, though, if it is inadvertently given back to the original gifter 😀
Yup, Hannibal will be there, anyway. And this whole thing about whether or not to watch it is kind of silly. There is certainly no contest for the “best fan” going on here. Or if there is, it’s not determined on whether one sits through *every* *single* *piece of* *work* by RA. Ha, if anything, it might make me a better fan, just because I have to overcome serious reluctance to watch that stuff??? In any case, I hope for kind fandom members to provide the “Innocents’ Cut” of the Red Dragon episodes of Hannibal…

Six weeks without you ??? How dare you ??? I am joking. I am really happy for you. Don’t worry for your house, Thorin will have a look on it !!! Your story about the calendar made me laugh. Poor guy (and not Guy) I agree with your husband, a gift is still a gift and may be one day you will find a BC’s fan very happy to add it to her collection. And Hannibal ??? WTF ??? I will always be more and more surprised by RA’s choices but this doesn’t mean I am not happy for him and I will follow every step of this new project. That’s really the case to say that if RA in this character is saying to you with a very sexy voice that he will devour you, please be carefull because unfortunately he will “really” do it and not in a sexy way. I travelled from Auckland to Queenstown, so I didn’t see the north of Auckland and The Coromandel Peninsula, the Catlins and Dunedin in the south of South Island.
My top five
– Milford and Doubtful sound
– Glenorchy and Paradise
– The Ferry Cruises from wellington to Picton ( Queen Charlotte Sound )
– The road between Fox Glacier and Queenstown
– The road from Picton to Kairura
To eat – Alleluya Bar in St Kevin’s Arcade in Auckland
– Picnic Cafe in Lady Norwwood Rose Garden in Wellington Botanic Garden
– A bit touristic Cuba street in Wellington
– The Maranui Cafe ( Mr. Armitage HQ ) good food, nice view, nice deco.
– In Picton, Seabreeze Cafe ( good fish, good white wine )
To see – A walk in Auckland central Business District, Auckland art Gallery, Albert Park,Devonport
– Wellington ( “the coolest little capital in the world” ), the Cable Car and the Botanic Garden, the Oriental Bay’ houses, Te Papa, Weta Workshop, Mt Victoria.
– Waitomo Caves
– Matamata, Hobbiton Movie Set ( book a tour at the end of the day , guides are less hurried, and you can look in detail at these marvelous little houses . Don’t miss at the end the Green Dragon and his book of signatures…….)
– Christchurch ( very moving painful and sad )
– Queenstown and Arrowtown
be careful : the sun, and the sand flies( kind of fly- mosquito in the South Island, whose bites itch a lot. )
