Before I get to the challenge – seldom was I so delighted in the female hygiene section of my local Boots store as today. You see, I noticed that they are selling a particular brand of sanitary towels on special offer, and it comes with my favourite kind of thin, metal tin. They are larger than the mint tins I usually use, but thinner. Thanks to the increased “square inch-age”, there is more scope for my little scenarios – like these, for instance:
It’s been ages since I last worked with one of those square tins. So yeah, if you see anything like this, and you have need of sanitary towels or a daughter who does, get them. I’ll buy them off you!
My pretties!!! I can think of several “pretties” to put into such a tin.
And now:
N – Which accent/language would you like RA to speak in a future role?
So, coming from the comment thread on yesterday’s #M, I am undecided between two options. Since RA has ticked off my native language German already (for good? Is Daniel outta BS??? The discussion is currently raging on Twitter…), I am now curious to hear Richard get his Irish on. That is not Irish, the language (aka Gaelic – definitely a really hard one to master… I have been living here for 18 years and could not string a sentence together, sadly), but Irish, the accent. RA has made a couple of piss-take attempts at it, and my curiosity is piqued. In conversation with an Irish interviewer, he came up with this:
“T-horin, pushing the t-h-rolley” *bahahaha*. And then there was that handing-over of an award where he did the stage-Irish “beejaysis”.
Can he do more? I’d love to find out. He’s got classic Irish looks (although he’s a bit too tall), so hey, waiting for a good Irish role for him to pop up.
As for a foreign language – I was reminded in the comments that he spoke a few words of Italian in “Romeo & Juliet” and in “The Bloody Chamber”. Since he apparently likes Italy very much, I’d love to hear him speak Italian. Such a beautiful language – and one that requires animation and temperament. Lots of scope for an actor, I think
He spoke some Italian in Romeo & Juliet, I still haven’t listened “The Bloody Chamber”, so I don’t know if there’s some Italian in there as well.
I’d surely love to see him in Italy someday, but I’m afraid it won’t happen. Italy always seems to be out of promotional tours, red carpets etc.
LikeLike
Yeah, I think he did. But I better update my text then and mention R&J, too. Thanks for the heads-up.
Well, even if he isn’t travelling to Italy for PR, it sounds as if he has been there a few times because he personally likes the country. I am sure I have heard him say that somewhere.

I second your Italian nomination. The body gestures and eye movements he could engage an audience with that language. Speaking of eye movements this second clip must make you proud that he is a bit stubbly but barely, nicely dressed and those little napeys going with some waviness there too.

Guylty, I do have a question re if he is out on BS, since I’m not on Twitter, what is the consensus? Is there a consensus? Any intel available or what do you think is going on with Richard as Daniel?
LikeLike
No, not really a consensus. And as usual, there are lots of people who are delighted that RA will be in BS3, and some others who are rather disillusioned already. A lot of the discussion is based on Richard’s own tweet in August when he tweeted that he was leaving Budapest (where BS was being filmed) for good, not knowing when he was coming back. It’s all speculation, of course, but based on that tweet a lot of people think that his role in BS is small and that he may not be in all episodes of the show.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah unfortunately I tend to agree with the lot that says his role is small or 2 episodes only b/c wouldn’t he be filming consistently the show since My Zoe ended production in early August?! I thought maybe there was hubbub going on Twitter of some sort of announcement about his whereabouts or if he was spotted in Budapest again now.
LikeLike
Don’t know about right now but he was definitely in London recently and not filming BS (anyone else reluctant to use THAT particular acronym, or is it just me?) bc he was recording for AudibleUK and somebody from there tweeted he was in LDN.

*coughs* It’s entirely NOT a coincidence that I insist on using that abbreviation. *grins* I am aware what it stands for in American English. *giggles* I know, it’s a bit mean, and the show isn’t really *that* bad. But it isn’t exactly fantastic, either, and so I take the piss whenever I can 😉 Sorry 🙂

That’s another nail in the BS coffin, indeed.
No, I don’t think he was spotted again. The discussions are happening in the wake of the new poster emerging.

For Irish, how did you rate his Finan the Agile from Lords of the North, Guylty?
Interesting that he gave Ragnar a Geordie accent. Maybe that’s how he would have sounded to a Saxon. 😄

Oh, I have to admit that I don’t remember his Irish in LotN. It’s been years since I listened to it, but maybe I should re-listen.
Oh, and now that you mention Irish accents and audio books – he also put on an Irish accent for one of the minor characters in “Their Lost Daughters” iirc. It was subtle but not bad.

If they kill him off in BS, I stop watching the minute he dies. The show just doesn’t interest me that much. Hoping to see that lovely, dimpled backside does, however!

Oh, same here. I am not going to waste anymore time on that show once the only interesting thing is gone. (And that is only “interesting for the actor – not the character”).

I don’t know. I think Richard is doing the best he can with what’s he’s being given. I like Daniel enough okay, but I REALLY didn’t like the ‘Trevor’ persona.
unless we’re talking about Trevor Belmont – if so, we’ll he’s a descendant of Sir Guy, no doubt!!!

Daniel was only ever a sketch. Even Trevor was more defined than Daniel.

Daniel is not my all time fav character that goes to Sir Guy but I like the mature look of Richard as Daniel and my alarm bells went off locking eyes on Richard as Daniel which led to everything else here so I may be the lone wolf out here crushing on Daniel 😍😍💗😀

I am the proud owner of one of those square shrines and I never knew its origin story. That product is unavailable around here. 😦 My tin is extra special since I had RA sign it on the bottom during a stage door encounter. I would have loved to have shown him the inside, but he moves way too fast for that. As for accents, I don’t have a preference. Maybe an American southern one would be interesting. Andrew Lincoln has mastered it and sounds great. Of course he has had eight years on the Walking Dead to get it right. I wonder if RA would commit to a project that lasted eight years?
LikeLike
That is truly an extra-special RAPS you have in your possession, Kathy. It has been ennobled by the man himself, unknowingly, of course, but the signature makes it definitely unique 🙂
You know, I would actually be curious to hear RA master a distinguishable American accent like the Southern one, too. Didn’t he say, though, that he doesn’t like to commit himself to anything longer than three years?
LikeLike
That sounds like something he would say. But if he was the lead in the number one show in America, wouldn’t he be tempted to continue, as long as quality of show remained high? BTW, if his three season limit is accurate, then isn’t that proof that Daniel will most likely bite the dust this BS season? And if lightening strikes and BS becomes hugely popular, wouldn’t the producers/network want assurances that he would stay onboard?Or have the option of retaining him? Just thinking aloud.
LikeLike
There are so many question marks when it comes to RA. He says one thing – and then he contradicts himself with another. He has said that 3 seasons is his limit – yet he also says that he takes anything that comes his way. The moral: I have stop believing what he says.

I agree. The man clearly cannot be trusted to give consistent answers. I bet he secretly likes cats more than dogs, and beer more than red wine.

Well, how far apart are those contradictory comments? I’ve not yet mastered the timeline of quotes and interviews. I just think that maybe for us as fans, everything he ever said is much closer together in our minds than for him. If he said something 10 years ago, he may have changed his mind or his circumstances might have changed. For us it might still seem very immediate and relevant because we read it (again) not too long ago. Just a thought.

Excellent point! Maybe some of the circumstances of doing a 3 season stint in a particular show where out of his control (ie Spooks)

Eh, he *did* 3 seasons on Spooks. And then he called it quits.

Oh I thought he said in an interview he didn’t know if Lucas was going to live or die and they offed him but Richard actually wanted out of the series or are you being facetious (🤔😉)!and I’m swimming under water?

Yep, that was exactly what I was referring to. But ok, maybe it wasn’t his decision to exit Spooks…

I mean I don’t know. Did he have Strike Back waiting in the wings as a back up or he knew he would be offed and Strike Back fell into his lap? I look st that stretch of time in 08 and 09 and he was very busy even from 10 to 15 he had movie projects. So maybe this idleness now worries him? Idleness in the sense of movies, theatre and tv not Audio
LikeLike
Hm, I can’t quite remember that. I think he had SB already lined up, but I am not sure.
I’m sure he doesn’t like being idle – and the audio activity is evidence of that. I suspect he does not have to worry about periods of “unemployment” after starring in the Hobbit trilogy, though. I think he’s got his nest feathered…
LikeLike
Oh yeah and if he is frugal then not a money issue. I was more thinking idleness like state of mind not being able to just lull and mull about doing willy nilly. That he needed to be creative and escape so to be speak into a character or project bec of a desire or passion to work hence the Audio kills two birds with one stone pardon the cliche

Your hygiene products come in tins?? No wonder you find all these wonderful tins. Everything seems to be in tins where you live. I think any accent he uses will be wonderful. I loved his accents in Lords of the North. But Scottish accents drive me crazy in a good way so that’s what I’d like to hear.
Speaking of Scottish accents, Outlander is about to start so I’ll leave you now.

Nah, not all of them come in tins. They are just really a marketing gimmick, because you can supposedly keep your sanitary towel discreetly hidden in the tin… They are much better for storing hidden shrines, though 😉
