Jesus H tap-dancing Christ! I just got a package from fellow-fan EssexWoman. It was not unexpected because she had alerted me of its impending arrival. You see, EssexWoman had been clearing out some of her RAvotionalia and paRAphernalia, and identified me as a potential receiver of a very special gift. But nothing prepared me for the scale of it. Literally. I veered between laughing and swooning when I unwrapped this:

That’s right. My beloved Sir Guy in all his season 1 glory. A poster boy for all that is sexy and dark leather. Hot dayum!

 

That’s the notorious famous Radio Times poster of Guy of Gisborne. I have seen it on websites many times, and once even fumbled it into a RAPS. But it never occurred to me that it might be almost life-size!!! It is. And it is in mint condition, btw. Not a kink ahem to disturb the pristine print! You almost want to reach out and touch.

Thank you so much, EssexWoman – I have not yet regained my speech. *askjhasklhdal* What a lovely act of fandom love. I will treasure this special gift. Sir Guy will take up residence in my study, I think. Least likely to attract unwanted, snide attention from the master of this particular hall, Guylty’s Lord of the mansion. And he better not see which other naughty image didn’t make the cut…

Edit: In the spirit of fandom love – and in this case the love appreciation of the fandom for Mr A as our OOA – I’d like to pass on a message I have just received from one of our fellow fans:

    • 😀 Yep – it’s ridiculous really, but then again, there is nothing ridiculous about people making gifts. How nice of EssexWoman to pass on something that she could not keep any longer. That’s the spirit of the fandom I really love.

    Ich nehme mal an, dass dein Office für heute spontan geschlossen ist, oder? Have a nice time und btw.: den dicken Pulli kannst du getrost ausziehen, es wird dir bestimmt schnell schön warm 😎
    (Ich freue mich riesig, das Schätzchen demnächst in natura bewundern zu dürfen. Das berühren der Figüren …… Ist hoffentlich dann nicht verboten. 😀 )

    • *dickes Grinsen* – naja, nur fürs Foto *pfeif*. Ich musste den Beitrag ja illustrieren. Nun muss ich mich aber mal beeilen, das Poster von seinem gegenwärtigen Standort im Wohnzimmer (und da auch noch auf einem Gemälde, das der Gatte handgemalt hat) ins Arbeitszimmer zu verlegen. Nicht, dass es hier noch zu Szenen kommt…
      Jou, mir war vorhin auch schon ziemlich warm, als ich Guy da so nahe kam. Und ich hab gekichert wie ein Schulmädchen. Mein Gott, wenn das jemand mitkriegt…
      Führung ins Arbeitszimmer ist genehmigt.

      • Dann schwing’ bloß noch ein wenig weiter im Begeisterungsgroove. Du weißt ja, immer schön den Akku vollmachen. Es kommen auch wieder andere Zeiten…. Ach so und achte bitte darauf, dass du dich nicht zu heftig ranschmeißt. Der Gute ist zwar unwidersprochen heiß, nichtsdestotrotz aber nur zweidimensional und die Wand ist hart. 🙂

  7. What a lovely gift. You are certainly not responsible for your fingers having a mind of their own. They saw a tempting package they had to unwrap. Nothing embarrassing happening here, nothing at all.

  9. It’s a wonderful poster I have one, you may not have noticed but Robin and Marion are on the reverse. LOL
    I had the same idea to donate to one of his charities, RA will always come first for me.

    • Would *love* that over my desk, but a) husband’s portable shrine hangs there and b) husband would probably not be amused… It’s on the door of my study.

  13. now this is what i call a gift! of a man 😉 never really know RH was so big in its days that they made these 🙂 let’s make a bet how many of these posters hand Guy side up? 😉 or better, let;s now, Guy always on top.. ‘cough’ ‘cough;.
    I think for further use you need to laminate it though LOL … otherwise all that touching will soon show on black leather :-p
    The update idea/donation sounds very good to me, ie to put the disappointment into something good 🙂 Gotta love fandom when it comes up with things like these 🙂
    And HA! on the poll! that is sweet, hadn’t seen it 🙂

    Now i’m left wondering what does Guy get up to all alone at night in your study…. and Ohhh, is that were you that your photos? You’ll need to cover him other wise you’ll get an increasing number of lamb-eyes, drooling, smitten photography subjects 😉 The boy is destruction and disruption incarnate!

    • Ha, laminieren ist eine großartige und überaus praktische Idee 🙂 Du weißt ja, kössqr sich besser sauberrhaltem und veerlängert die Lebensdauer. Am erhöhten Krabbeleffekt (Löcher und Abrieb) ist schon so manches Papier gescheitert.
      Oh Mann, sorry, aber das geht gerade vollständig auf deine Kosten.
      Sei mir versichert, ich freue mich nur mit dir ❤ (schrei: ich will auch sowas an der Tür/im
      Schrank).

      • Oh, ich übernehme die Kosten gerne. Ich kann mich ja zum Weinen an Guys starke Schulter lehnen. Obwohl das mit den Tränen sich dann auch wieder negativ auf die Lebensdauer des Posters auswirken würde. Die Laminieridee wird immer besser. Gibt es so große Laminiergeräte???

        • Ich fürchte, dieses Prachtstück ist zu groß für jedes handelsübliche Laminiergerät. Und es wäre zu schade, ihn auf A4 runterzukopieren, nein. Da wirst du wohl professionelle Hilfe in Anspruch nehmen müssen. Peinlich zwar, aber wenn’s langfristig der Haltbarkeit dient…….

          • Wie könnte ich das nur machen? Oder ob ich selbst Hand anlegen sollte? Ich bin ja sonst mit Selbstklebefolie nicht ganz ungeschickt… Aber selbst die gibt es nicht im A1-Format. Probleme…

            • Aber es gibt doch sicher Leute, die professionell z.B. Poster aufziehen. Selbstklebefolie könntest du natürlich von hinten anbringen. Dann ist es auch unkritisch, wenn du anstückelst. Das verleiht wenigstens ein wenig Stabilität. Du müsstest dich halt beim Ansabbern ein klein wenig zurückhalten.

                  • Na, bei der Vorlage ist ja klar, dass ich auf das Wort “Anliegen” kommen muss… Und die Horizontale ist ja angesichts von Guy niemals wirklich weit entfernt vom Fangirl-Bewusstsein…

                    • Hatte ich das mal erwähnt: A.D. 1983 habe ich mal ein Tourplakat von David Bowie von einer Litfaßsäule gerissen. Und da musste ich mir auch kreative Gedanken zur Reparatur und Haltbarkeit machen.

                    • Nachtrag von heute früh: dieser Vorsprung ist nur meinem minimal höherem Alter geschuldet. D.B. habe ich das erste Mal bewußt 1981 im Film “Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo” wahrgenommen. Das war auch die Zeit, in der er relativ schick und cool daherkam. Und nicht so künstlerisch verfreakt wie in den 70ern. Das kam mir als vergleichsweise konservative Nase auch ziemlich entgegen 😀
                      Aber das Poster war echt cool und das Konzert in der Frankurter Festhalle mein Erstes überhaupt. Unglaublich, da wurde gesoffen und gekifft vom Feinsten……Das ist heute auf solchen Veranstaltungen nicht mehr denkbar.

    • Oh, I love your last sentence here. “The boy is destruction and disruption incarnate” – calling him a boy, and then combining that with destruction and disruption… You could be right, though, things might end tits up in my study. Ooops, well, figuratively speaking.
      I like the lamination idea – I would hate for the poster to get damaged. Not so much by me, but who knows what jealous husbands get up to? Add devil ears and moustache?
      As for Guy’s influence on my work – nah, no mushy-eyed sentimentality. I think he’d give me a bit of edge, push me to dare…

    • Habe gerade mal die Kommentare überflogen …

      Warnung!!!
      Es gibt zwar Klarsicht-Klebefolie in breiten Rollen (mindestens bis 60 cm breit), ABER: Nach meiner Erfahrung greift der (oder nur mancher – aber wie du das vorher wissen?) Klebstoff Papier und Druckfarbe an. Es kommt dann nach einer Weile zu Verfärbungen und der Rückseitendruck scheint durch oder solche Scherzchen.

      Solltest du trotzdem selbst Hand anlegen wollen (mit der Folie! Tststs.), roll sie vorher mal ganz auf – ich hatte schon welche, die Herstellungsfehler hatte – und wir wollen doch keine häßlichen Knicke in der Folie.

  18. Well Guylty – I certainly didn’t expect you to dedicate a whole blog post to my ‘gift’ to you! I actually turned puce reading it. Anyway I’m so pleased you received it & in pretty quick time too. I knew it would be in appreciative hands – you’ve certainly proved that in your photos!!!
    I must admit when I originally received the poster I didn’t expect it to be so big either.That put paid to putting it up in the office & I couldn’t hang it up at home because Mr EW would have taken the p**s. So it has languished in the spare room cupboard all these years though I’ve occasionally taken a peak at his magnificence!!!
    In answer to April73’s question, IIRC, the poster wasn’t in the actual Radio Times magazine. I had to send away for it & it was free – all you had to do was pay the P&P. So getting a copy of the RT mag won’t be any good – you need to find someone who actually sent off for the poster. Hope that clarifies things.

    • Hello EssexWoman – glad you found this post. I really should’ve written a personal e-mail, but I have just been snowed under with work and administration… Anyway, suffice to say I was and am delighted with the poster, such a literally great surprise.

    • LOL. Damn. Man kennt meine dreckigen Gedanken also schon… 😀 Das war irgendwie unvermeidbar. Allein aus fotografischer Perspektive bot sich das an. Yeah right.
      Und deine Reprint als 3D Idee ist fantastisch. Warum ist da noch keiner drauf gekommen? Das wäre doch *der* Hit!!!!

          • Immerhin könnte man den Wunsch nach einem Hologramm noch irgendwie künstlerisch verbrämen. Während der Schrei nach der ordinären 3D-Version ausschließlich aktiver Hechelei geschuldet ist.

                    Aber wenn dun es denn partout jugendfrei willst: das schwere Atmen ist ja auch nur dem pseudo-lasziven Abhängen im Baum geschuldet. Ist bestimmt anstrengend,wenn man ständig Frauen mit sengendem Blick in die Augen starrt und sich dabei krampfhaft im Geäst stabilisieren muß 😉

                    • *hüstel* Ok ok. Ertappt. Dabei hatte ich wirklich hehre Kunst in den Gedanken. (Hab sowas mal bei einer Kunstinstallation gesehen – fand ich toll.)
                      Und jetzt muss ich echt mal aufhören mit dem Witzeln – ich habe bei deinem letzten Satz nämlich schon nicht mehr “Geäst” gelesen, sondern “Gemächt”. Hat zwar auch irgendwie im Sinnzusammenhang gepasst, ist aber deutlich unter der Gürtellinie. Ähem.
