“Auctions over – Guylty out” that’s the tabloid headline for this post, whereas a quality publication would probably focus on the hard facts (the proceeds of the auctions and donations) and the moral dimension (the thanks due to the supporters) of this initiative. Let’s stay classy then and talk about the success of this fundraiser. Because that is what you are dying to know…
Let me torture you precede that by saying that this auction has surpassed my dreams – again. With the previous auction less than four months ago, I did not bank on your ability or willingness to “cough up” again. When it became clear some time yesterday evening, well before the auction was closing, that we had broken the previous record, I was already overjoyed. Confetti. Balloons. 🙂 But overnight new bids came in and then in the final half hour of the auctions, it got really busy (and I had to interrupt my – literally – half-baked idea of baking a cake an hour before auction end… *doh*). All nine auction items/packages crossed the three-figure mark. A fantastic result! Here are the particulars:
- Sinnamin Plushie-Doodle Package………………………..$149
- Lily Red Dragon Tapestry…………………………………….$114
- Picnic RAPS Package……………………………………….$150
- Obscura Tote Bag……………………………………………..$200
- Pat Thornton Thorin Package……………………………….$125
- Guy RAPS Package………………………………………….$210
- Kellys Crucible Package……………………………………..$175
- Dolarhyde RAPS Package…………………………………..$175
- Custom RAPS………………………………………………….$175
- Auction Total……………………………………………….. $1473
This auction would not have been possible without the generous gifts from the auction supporters above who gave items to be auctioned: A massive thank you to them. I’d like to mention that Obscura was instrumental in getting me to put on an auction again and volunteered the first item for the auction – thank you. Edit: And how could I forget Pollysthings from Tumblr who had sent me “gifts for future use” that inspired the three ready-made shrines in the auction! Thank you. I would also like to emphasize that I am more than grateful to Sinnamin, Lily, Pat, Kelly and Kelly for reaching out to me. Upon hearing about the upcoming auction they got in touch with me unprompted to offer items. Further mention to supporters who have chipped in with postage costs, as always unprompted: Perry, CraMERRY, Hariclea, Mimi and SheRA. – The following messages from bidders and donors, which I have received, are for you all: [Click on pics to enlarge]
This is also the point when I can announce the winner of the mini-RAPS which I had thrown in as an incentive to bid in my Half-Way Post. The lucky winner is… Linda60!!! Congratulations! (For the draw protocol, click the blue box.)
A thank you also goes out to all of you who have sent in donations. Many of you sent me bids for auctions, declaring at the same time that you would donate the amount you were bidding in case your bid did not win. Some winners topped up their bid with a donation. Others made a voluntary donation without a bid. And I also know of followers of the auction who donated independently to the cause and have made a contribution already. The preliminary result of the donations collected through #cRAftingForCharity amounts to a stunning $ 915.50.
Lastly, I fully agree with a certain someone who once said “It’s definitely time to give, and that gesture doesn’t have a monetary value to me.” [Punctuation my own ;-P] He added on, “even if you have little to give, a few coins in a box, a moment of your time, or just your consideration, is something.” In that spirit many fellow sisters-in-RA helped spreading the message by blogging, reblogging, tweeting, retweeting and drumming up attention for the initiative on other platforms. I appreciate that very much. Thank you!
So, in case you haven’t added it up yet, at this point in time, the preliminary total, including auction results *and* donations is… *drumroll*
Thank you!!! I will post the final sum that we made with the auctions as soon as I have received the pledged money from all participants. If anyone would still like to contribute, the donations are still open and you can send me an e-mail to guylty (at) photographer (dot) net if you would like to donate. Anyone who donates will be in the raffle for a mini-RAPS, as promised! I am planning to donate at the end of the week. Once all donations are in and I have transferred the money to Save the Children’s Syrian Children’s Relief Fund, I will post on my blog, and my “external arbiters” Helen and CraMERRY will be sent proof of the transaction.
Blown away! You have just really made my day better with this news (and I needed a boost after a rough day at the clinic). Thanks for all your hard work and high fives to all the contributors and artists!

Oh wow! That’s just fantastic :D. Kudos to you and to everyone who contributed to this event. I know the various items will be much appreciated and enjoyed by the auction winners, who can also take much satisfaction in knowing their winning bids are going to such a good cause. ❤

That is the most gratifying thing in this – doing something for fun, and then getting something out of it for a good cause. I can’t wait to send the donation on to Save the Children 🙂

I. Can’t. Even!!! WOW! This is far beyond what I expected to raise. (I don’t know why…it’s not as if this fandom doesn’t have a long history of supporting charitable causes!) Kudos all around – and especially to you and your indomitable verve!!

You are right – the fandom has proven on many occasions that they will gladly give time or money to good causes. And yet, one never wants to be presumptious about that. I am truly grateful to all that helped, whether they donated time or money. It’s all for a good cause. Thanks!

Years ago, Guylty dumped her ‘movie boyfriend’ Keanu Reeves for a certain English ‘tall, gangly bloke’ with a chocolate voice. Since then, she has helmed many a project – gifts and auctions – to help those in need. (Including, I may say, a good number of her RArmy friends.)
Go ahead and read the results of her latest auction on behalf of many innocents who are victims of a few politicians lust for power.
P.S: Keanu would be very proud of you, my friend! 😉

I admit, this kind of thing is such fun not only because we are generating a massive donation but because it is a bit of a community event. And I always meet new people through such initiatives, so I really feel it’s a win-win and I am happy to host such things 🙂
