Happy weekend, everyone! I picked up Mr Guylty yesterday afternoon. He had a really long, good night’s sleep, and it is great to have him back home. Phew. Once again thank you for your kind wishes. If you ask me, they have made a difference! There’s more to this Earth than just what we can see and create with our own hands. There is an added dimension that allows the power of positivity to work its magic. Maybe you can call it the human spirit. In any case, and without sounding ga-ga, I believe that compassion and empathy work. At least for me. Thank you ❤️.
The obstinate parcel I mentioned in my last post, has also arrived. And it contains some amazing goodies for the auctions that you will very much enjoy, I am sure. The saga of receiving it, has actually had one positive effect. At least I now know which parcel carrier *not* to use for shipping Richard’s contribution to our auctions. Yes, it will require courier shipping rather than ordinary mail service… there’s another hint for you.
Meanwhile, in the comments on the last post, we were still discussing RA’s enthusiastically secured and taped package. Which culminated in the idea that maybe, as a token gift, we should have some custom-tape printed for him. I mean, it surely will come in handy in many situations? Not necessarily for further donations to auctions (I do not want to develop any expectations – what applies to all of you, also applies to RA himself: There is never any obligation or expectation that people must donate items.)
The parcel saga continues, however, in that I know of further packages that are on their way from the US to me, sent to me well in time (and before I suggested that further donations may have to go into the December fundraiser) but for some reason stuck in some kind of parcel limbo… But we still have two weeks to go until Point Zero, so I am confident that all will be well. And as I always say: There will always be at least *one* more auction fundraiser 😉

Genau das hatte er mir ja auch gesagt – dass seine Assistentin das dann an mich verschickt. Und dann kommt das Paket hier an, und für mich sieht alles eindeutig danach aus, dass er es selbst eingepackt und ausgefüllt hat. Vielleicht war die Assistentin nur für die Bestellung und Übergabe an den Paketdienst zuständig? In jedem Fall ist das auch in meinen Augen ein weiterer Stein, den er bei mir im Brett hat. ❤️

Das ist aber herrlich, dass er das alles selbst gemacht hat und so viel eigene Zeit der Aktion gewidmet hat. Es sieht wirklich danach aus, dass er das alles selbst zu Hause vorbereitet hat und anschließend die Assistentin nur um die Übergabe des Päckchen an den Paketdienst gebeten hat. Das passt auch irgendwie zu ihm, dass er das alles nicht mit den Händen anderer machen wollte. Offensichtlich wollte er auch seinen eigenen Anteil an der Aktion haben und damit zeigen, dass er das, was ihr in den vergangenen Jahren mit der Aktion erreicht hat, schätzenswert findet. Ich gratuliere euch, es ist auch wohlverdient.

First of all, I’m very glad to hear your husband is back home! I’ll keep my fingers crossed there’ll be no repeat performance in future.
Second, oh custom made tape? Nice idea. Did you mean to send it to Richard for him to use? I like the idea! Some very different gift to what he probably gets otherwise. Might give him a nice little giggle at the very least.
Third, yes that signature very much counts as an autograph!!! So you now have several of them all for yourself. Getting even more jealous*gg*. I can’t wait for the reveal, I really really really want to know what his contribution is.

As for auctioning off the customs forms – I briefly thought about it, but feel vaguely uncomfortable with that as it contains sender and receiver addresses. Not a problem as such – anyone who has ever donated something or won an auction, knows my address. And the sender address is public, too. (It’s obviously not his private address but his agency’s.) But yeah, not sure whether I really feel comfortable doing that. I thought of simply raffling them off – among participants or donors or something. What are your thoughts?

I vote no on that. Yes, it’s not a secret address etc. but it’s the principle of the thing. He sent it to you with the knowledge that you wound see the paperwork, but certainly didn’t have any expectation that that would go further.
As you know I was in favor of splitting up content and box, but this feels off to me. YMMV.

Die Aufschrift auf dem Klebeband ist lustig. Hoffentlich kommt er nur nie dahinter, wie genau die Analyse war, der das Päckchen unterzogen wurde 😉 Er hat wohl unser Engagement unterschätzt. Sonst wird er uns in der Zukunft noch nur langweilige gekaufte Postkartons zukommen lassen, dass würde und den Spaß verderben. Es sei denn er fand es selbst lustig (sicher mindestens bei der Mr. Porter Schachtel). Eigentlich war es auch der Auslöser…

Oh, ich glaube, er amüsiert sich manchmal schon über unser intensives Interesse 😁. Hoffe ich zumindest, denn so viel Mikroskopie kann man eigentlich nur mit Humor nehmen. Es bleibt ja auch harmlos. (Und ein bisschen hat er selber Schuld – wenn er etwas weniger privat wäre, müssten wir halt nicht so detektivisch vorgehen 😉.)

Ich teile auch die Meinung, dass man dies nicht zur Versteigerung aufstellen sollte. Das war auch nicht dafür bedacht. Es stimmt schon, dass da quasi Autogramme von ihm drauf sind und dass sie jeder auch ohne die Adressen gerne hätte, aber es sind Formulare, die er unterschreiben musste und nicht etwas, worauf er seine Unterschrift hinterlassen wollte, die er auch als Autogramm angesehen hätte.

Ich finde, das ist ein besonders schlagendes Argument, das du da bringst, Graza. Die Schriftstücke waren nicht als Autogramm gedacht, also sollte man das jetzt lieber nicht ausschlachten. Ich mein, klar, wir haben hier unseren Spaß mit der minutiösen Begutachtung seines Pakets, aber dabei belassen wir es mal 😉. So semi-offizielle Formulare sind irgendwie sakrosankt.

For what it’s worth, I vote no too, as tempting as it is and as much as I know how valuable (and not in a monetary sense) his signature is to his fans. May I suggest you keep one for yourself if you want as a memento of the auction since you can’t bid on anything then grit your teeth and put the rest through a shredder lol!

Oh yes, I would have to grit my teeth so hard… I think that I will need to use one of the forms anyway as a way of authenticating the item in question. (My dear but clueless hubster had said to me at the beginning that I would have to pass on the accompanying letter as authentification. No way 😂)

You mean Richard himself sent the package? Filled in the custom forms himself? Four times? Didn’t ask his assistant to do the job? His fingerprints are all over the forms, the package, the tape and the rest? 🤩 And you have now four authentic autographs? Because they do count as autographs! Very exciting!

Hehe, never mind the finger prints, but I agree, I also felt somewhat surprised that he had evidently packed, taped and done the bureaucracy himself. Nice touch – literally.
As for your bidding question – no, as the auction “owner” I can’t bid. Which is fine. Theoretically I would like to as it is an item that is close to my heart, so to speak. But I am pretty sure that my budget will not stretch to where I expect the bidding to go… 🤐🤫😁

Thank you, Dreamer – he’s feeling much better now, and we even went out for a few hours today to take a drive with our kids. Lovely day, and he was in good form, even without oxygen. (The bloody bottle ran out while we were on the road *doh*)

Dann ist also die mysteriöse Sache: nicht groß (bei einem enthusiastischen Verpackungsfreund, da wird noch viel Verpackungszeug in der weißen Schachtel zu finden sein, hihi 😊; ich kenne den enthusiastischer-Verpackungsfreund-Typ ja gut 😉; ich finde es aber toll, dass RA darauf geachtet hat, dass die Sache unterwegs nicht beschädigt wird), musste gut verpackt werden und hat nicht nur sentimentalen Wert (da sie mit dem Kurierdienst weiterverschickt werden muss und bei der Versteigerung kaum zu ergattern ist), dann ist es vielleicht doch eine Uhr, die ich wegen des zu hohen Wertes ausgeschlossen habe… oder ein Fotoapparat von Stay Close, der dir sicher als Fotografin sehr gefallen hätte (eine Fotokamera ist aber nicht so klein)…hmm… das wäre alles außer Reichweite…
Ich habe gerade entdeckt, dass deine Seite mit der Auflistung der Fotografen weiterführende Links zu Deinen Beschreibungen zu den einzelnen Fotos beinhaltet. Die muss ich mal lesen, sind interessant, nur aus Zeitgründen leider nicht jetzt. Allerdings das Foto auf dem RA auf einer großen Kiste sitzt, hat mich an unser Ratespiel erinnert (wahrscheinlich wegen der großen Kiste auf dem Foto und dass RA auf dem Foto lächelt), hmm oder war das das Foto, auf dem er auf einer weißen Schachtel 😉 sitzt… (wohl nicht, da das eher ein Holzblock ist und es ging dabei um die Erklärung wie wichtig die Geometrie bei Fotosaufnehmen ist). Gut, dass Kate diese zwei Fotos zur Wahl nicht zusammengestellt hat (RA trägt da auch keine Lederjacke), da würden die Leute bei der Wahl verzweifeln.
Haha 😊, meine Mülltonne ist schon groß genug, um allen meinen misslungenen Bastelversuchen und allen dabei entstehenden zukünftigen Sachschäden (gestern hätte beinahe schon ein angebrannter Kochtopf in ihr landen müssen) Stand zu halten 😊.

Also, die große Enthüllung findet ja morgen statt, aber ich kann trotzdem ohne nähere Einzelheiten deine Zusammenfassung kommentieren: Die Sache ist nicht “nicht groß” 😁, größer als eine Uhr, aber nicht zerbrechlich. Eigentlich war deswegen die Verpackung schon ein bisschen zu enthusiastisch. Ist ein Teil, dass m.E. sehr großes Interesse erwecken wird.
Hehe, ja, in meiner Fotografenliste (die, glaube ich, leider schon lange nicht mehr aktualisiert worden ist > muss auf to do list) habe ich ein bisschen Eigenwerbung hinterlassen, zu meinen Fotoanalysen. Mit denen hat mein Blogging damals angefangen. (Da kam ich gerade frisch aus meinem Fotografiestudium.) Auch die Analysen habe ich schon lange nicht mehr weitergeführt. Aber mein Fotobeitrag von heute hat ein bisschen wieder die Lust angefacht. Die beiden Kistenfotos gehören zu meinen Lieblingen dazu. Auf jeden Fall das auf der weißen Kiste (da von Robert Ascroft, dessen Fotos von RA ich allesamt sehr gut fand). Das S/W Foto mehr wegen des großen Lachens, das so selten ist und dass vielleicht auch damit zusammenhängt, dass RA zu der Fotografin einen besonderen Draht hat.
Es lebe der Müll – und die Tatsache, dass man misslungene Versuche verschwinden lassen kann 😉

So langsam schüpfte ich schon den Verdacht, dass bei einem enthusiastischen Verpackungsfreund auch andere Aspekte als Zerbrechlichkeit der Ware (wie z.B. von anderen Päckchen ausgehende evtl. Befleckungsgefahren) eine Rolle spielen könnten. Somit kann es so alles sein. Sogar Guys Handschuhe oder Thornton’s Cravat (jetzt habe ich schon übertrieben 😉). Wir werden es heute erfahren 😊
Ohh, du hast sogar ein Fotografiestudium absolviert. Deswegen sind die Fotoanalysen so fachlich und interessant. Wenn man deine Fotobeiträge liest, sieht man sofort dahinter auch deine Leidenschaft dafür. Deswegen sind alle Leser, auch wenn sie Leien sind, so begeistert. Es kann kein Zufall sein, dass alle jetzt auf einmal bei dir über Fotokameras und Fotografieren lesen. Ich drücke die Daumen, dass Du wieder mehr Zeit dem Fotografieren widmen kannst.
Die Fotos von Robert Ascroft finde ich auch alle wunderschön. Für mich als Leien sieht RA auf ihnen noch viel besser als auf den Anderen. Ich bin fest davon überzeugt, dass ich die Antwort darauf, wieso man diesen Eindruck hat, in deinen Beiträgen finden werde, die ich lesen werde, sobald ich mit meinen Bastelversuchen und mit allem anderen was so ansteht fertig werde.

Danke dir für deine netten Worte re. Fotografie und meine Analysen etc. Das ist echt Motivation für mich, mich dem Ganzen mal wieder mehr zu widmen. Man wird ja auch ein bisschen rostig, sowohl was die Prozesse angeht, als auch das Schreiben darüber.
Ascroft ist ein absoluter Vollprofi. Die Bilder sind natürlich immer gestellt und etwas “hochglanzig”, aber dafür stellen sie den Portraitierten auch wirklich im besten Licht dar. Hochglanz mag natürlich nicht jeder. Muss man auch nicht. Aber für mich ist Ascroft einer der Fotografen, der RA besonders gut abgelichtet hat.
