Goodness me! What an episode! We need to celebrate that. With a (D)RAPS!
True to my word, I am creating a RAPS for each of the Red Dragon episodes. This is number 3 in the series of 6. And you would’ve thought that I would have no trouble choosing images and theme for this pocket shrine. Well, to tell you the truth, there was almost too much goodness (in terms of visuals) in that episode. Plenty of trunk shots, intense staring, romantic hugs, or even stronger stuff *climaxoughs*. And Guylty did not know where to start. I had to do plenty of rewatching in order to come to a decision. Research. Yeah, right. Here’s the start…
I had mentioned on Twitter that I wanted to incorporate the tiger scene in the shrine. Well, I started out with good intentions, although slightly hampered by the lack of tiger-striped material. I even went through three different shops on Friday to get hold of anything with tiger stripes – stuffy toys, scarfs, I would’ve bought a saucy pair of knickers if that would have provided me with some stripes. But – no luck. I settled for something animalistic, though, glued the fabric into place and then found myself floundering. What next? How?
Turns out, the shrine had different ideas to its design than I did. Instead of recreating the intense tiger scene, I suddenly found myself in the bedroom with Dolly…
There he is, curled up in his happy place, cuddling with the Red Dragon. Honestly, I didn’t see that coming.
And with that, the slightly sexy theme was set. Here is the Woman Clothed with the Sun, seen from the other perspective. Sort of.
Candles are so romantic – especially when… – how fitting they are in this shrine.
Yeah, I know, the beast is not exactly what one might want to dream about when thinking of Dolarhyde. I am not sure who has swallowed whom, whole? The Red Dragon Dolarhyde? Dolarhyde the Red Dragon? Or Dolarhyde Reba? Come to think of it, I wouldn’t mind being swallowed by Dolarhyde. He looked pretty good when he was “swallowing”.

Yeah, Dolly really is a bit too much for the cold-hearted monster that Dolarhyde is. Frankie would probably be more acceptable. But not quite as funny 😉

Tru dat…. of course, when I look at Francis as a character, it’s very split for me. He’s more conflicted than Guy is and has two very distinct sides.

Yeah, Guy doesn’t have a split personality. He is definitely conflicted, but he is also a product of the times and his circumstances. TBH – I’m rather fond of my 21st century Guy…. 🙂

Love the whole thing. Who needs a tiger when you can have Dolly in bed? I especially like the hands clutching his back, with fiery jewels radiating heat. And who is under Dolly? Is it Reba or some other lucky lady sharing his happy place? Could be anyone who knows where to buy sunny outfits to clothe herself in.

That is the woman clothed with the sun under Dolly. It’s from the Blake painting – I decided to go for the painting rather than RL Reba because it’ll be easier for the future shrine owner to imagine herself in her place 😀

Ich weiß, ich hab eben schon auf Twitter darüber laut nachgedacht, dass es seltsam ist, wie hot ausgerechnet der kaltherzige Killer rüberkommt. Da ist der Wunsch dann wohl der Vater des Gedankens. Und diese ewige Romantik, von wegen “Ein bisschen Liebe, und der Killer wird zum handzahmen Kätzchen”. Jaja… wenn’s mal nur so leicht wäre.

Ist ja alles mit voller Absicht inszeniert. Nur haben sie halt zu allem Überfluss auch noch einen Meister seines Faches für die Rolle gewonnen. War doch klar (und schon ausführlich besprochen). Bin dennoch hoch angetan, auch wenn die Abgründigkeit schon sehr deutlich ist. Man spürt das Bemühen, uns den Charakter FD sympathisch zu machen (Wink mit dem Zaunpfahl, Küchenpsychologie, du erinnerst dich?). Tja, und RA spielt das ohne einen Hauch von Aufgesetztheit so richtig schön in seiner ganzen Ambivalenz aus. Ich finde, da darf man auch ein ganz kleines bisschen angemacht sein. 🙂

Nö klar, natürlich *sollen* wir uns angemacht fühlen. Ansonsten hätten sie Dolly eben auch Schiesser Rippenstrick Underbuxen angezogen, und nicht diese sexy briefs, die mehr zeigen als sie verbergen. Und ihm öfter mal einen Kimono übergeworfen, wenn er vor dem Spiegel sprechen übt… Wir sind also die Lämmer, die freiwillig zur Schlachtbank gehen.
Allerdings ist die Rollenvergabe an RA ja auch ausgesprochen taktisch klug. Da kann man sich dann nicht nur an Muskeln und Shorts freuen, sondern auch an Schauspielkunst vom Feinsten. Sehr clever. Man kann von Fuller sagen, was man will, aber schlau isser ja.

LOL. I have to ask again: Are you alright, Andrea? Hope you have regained consciousness 😉 I have to say, I did not expect all those Dolarhyde shrines to become the hottest of my oeuvre. So far, I think Porter had been the hottest. And now this serial-killing monster is taking his place. Wishful thinking, eh?

Och nö, kann ich gar nicht sagen. Ich persönlich bin da ja so ganz des Irrglaubens, dass mit ein bisschen Liebe alles getan ist und aus dem Dragon ein handzahmes Hündchen wird. Wuff. Aber so ist das mit Fan Art – alles ist möglich. 🙂

Hehe, das war mal das Schwanzende von einem Ü-Ei-Dinosaurier. Hatte ich letztes Jahr mal aufgehoben, ohne zu wissen, wozu ich den nochmal im Schrein-Business verwursten würde. Tja, man sieht ja – es lohnt sich, nie etwas wegzuschmeißen. Und das, obwohl der Kopf vom T-Rex schon lange verschollen war.
