RA Pocket Shrine 263/? – Spook-tacular [Raffle]

*boo* 👻

Happy Halloween, everyone. It’s become a little tradition for me to make a Halloween RAPS even though I am not big on Halloween myself. And this year is no exception. If anything, these seasonal occasions provide a motivation for me to create a shrine – something that lazy bum me often just can’t get arsed to do 😉. Butt after a couple of less specifically Halloween-y shrines in 2020 and 2019, I made a proper one this year.

House of Spook? Well, you can probably guess what is coming…

Pale Lucas with his vampire skin was waiting to be enshrined for this occasion. I mean, after all he is a spook. And spooktacular, definitely.

In fact, he’s eerie-sistible.

Sorry for the bad puns, but he was asking for it.

So, are you putting on some sort of Halloween do today? Do you go trick or treating with your (grand)kids? Have you stocked up on sweets to hand out to the little monsters that come to your door? Is your house decorated? – I have to answer “no” to all of the above. No Halloween plans, kids too old to go trick or treating, no children in the neighbourhood who’d try our doorbell, and no decoration in the house except for a couple of bird skulls in my autumn arrangement on the kitchen table.

However and since I am not a Halloween fan myself, this pocket shrine needs to find a new home. Any Halloween fans out there? If you’d like the shrine, drop me a comment below. I’ll draw the winner on Tuesday, 11pm (GMT) and will send the RAPS anywhere in the world.

Oh, and just for completeness’ sake – this is what the tin looks like on the other side:

If you’d like to see some more Halloween content, here is the one from 2017 (actually a personal favourite of mine) and a fun little story that I wrote way back in 2016.

*boo* again 🎃

  1. OMG for an old goth wicked-Armitage ghoulie like me, that shrine is fangtastic – and so are the puns. The bones! And I love artistically-bloodied Lucas. No Halloween do this year as I am in bed with a lurgy (but not Covid thankfully). Happy Halloween or non-Halloween!

  2. I love Halloween- it’s one of the only “holidays” that’s more friend-centric than family or partner. Even after getting rid of a lot of stuff in my house this year, I’ve still kept my bat wings and witch hat lol.

    • Good point about “friend-compatible” holiday. All the others are really family-centric, but Halloween really is about parties with friends. Hope you had a good one and brought the bat wings out 🦇

  3. I love Halloween. Our house has been decorated since the beginning of October (my hubby loves it too) and week by week we add something, until we carve the pumpkin for the great finale ;). I also re-watched Season 3 of Hannibal to get in the Halloween mood with Richard. What a majestic performance his Red Dragon. Not everybody’s cup of tea but definitely a tasty one for a fan of horror/thriller like me. Your shrine is perfect. Have a good Sunday!

    • Nice idea to add more decorations the closer you get to the day. It’s almost like an advent calendar in reverse 😉. Well, today is the big day then.
And great plan to rewatch Hannibal Red Dragon. I should’ve thought of that myself. Not a horror fan at all, but I really liked Richard’s performance as Dolarhyde. One of his best, really.

      • Yes, I loved the way he approached the character and showed not only his blood thirst but his vunerability, his capacity of being swet and caring with Reeba, his change inside and outside. I bet it was a difficult role to prepare for and perform for Richard, physically, phonetically and emotionally. But the end result was just amazing.

        • And yet, precisely *because* all of those difficulties, it was probably an ideal role for him. A character where he could apply his backstory ideas and then really flesh him out and give him many layers beyond the serial killer. He did a fantastic job!

  4. I have put up my spooky wreath—but that’s it.

I won’t be encouraging anyone to come to my door and I also haven’t carved a pumpkin. First I wasn’t sure and then the big ones were sold out. Oh well.

The shrine is lovely. I’m feeling very unmotivated atm, so I’m glad I’m all done with the crafting for December. Well done for using Halloween as a motivation booster. 👻 🎃 That didn’t even occur to me.

    • Aw, that is a really cute wreath, with all those monsters looking out from it 👀
I received a small hokkaido pumpkin in the veggie box yesterday, so we have at least one pumpkin in the house 😂
Well, you have done your bit, Kate. No need to force yourself to craft now. (I went out yesterday *again* to buy more storage crates, and while beginning to organise my craft material yesterday, I have come across so many cool bits and pieces that I feel the urge to craft… Should tidy up more often 😂)

    • Very lovely monster wreath decor 😊. If you won’t be encouraging anyone to come to your door, do not hang it on the front door. If I did it on the corridor of my floor in the block, five pairs of children ‘s eyes would be looking at it immediately after discovering it 😂

        • That’s true the feathers won’t work well in a wet environment. We had unexpected visitors. But they were so quick and impatient that we only saw the cloak waving as they ran away, before we could open the door. Maybe it was better. Oh, I could see the shiny blue RA angel 😊. It will probably be one of the favorites.

  5. This one is definitely spook-tacular and perfect for the season in every detail, I love it 👻👍💕 (and no. 146 is already mine 😊). I´m not really a big fan of Halloween, I just have a pumpkin-shaped terracotta-candleholder and two paper lampions I´ll put up later…

    • Hehe, I know you have 146. As I said, it’s one of my favourites, with the two doors for opening. And glad to hear that even non-Halloween fans enjoy these shrines ☺️

  6. Don’t apologize for the puns, they made me laugh!! I love Spooky Lucas. What a great idea for a Halloween RAPS. Excellent work, as always. 🙂

    • Hehe, I am a big fan of puns. Dad jokes are my thing, although – naturally – my husband is much better at them. And I love throwing puns into the shrines. Lighten them up a bit 💡

  7. Happy Halloween and Blessed Samhain! I’m not planning anything as I have to work today and I think my boys are the youngest 2 on our hill. They’re too old for trick-or-treating & I don’t think they’re doing anything either. If I can remember to get it, I’ll wear my big spider brooch to work.
Richard really should play a vampire at some point – he’d be a wonderful one.

    Like

    • Oh, he would’ve been great as Matthew Clairmont in Discovery of Witches…
Hope you don’t forget your spider brooch – I like little topical references like that. (Must look in my jewellery stash whether I have anything vaguely Halloween-y – going to visit an elderly relative today.) Happy Halloween/Samhain! 🎃

  8. I just love what you did there! 🎃

Now there’s an idea for a future spooky (or otherwise) RAPS: RA as the perfidious vampire Lestat (only dark, taller and wayyyyyyy more handsome). How cool would that be?! He would totally nail the role of the ancient vampire who has high morals and deadly aim, who has seen and lived through everything over and over again; and now faces his eternal fate with a worldly caustic sense of humour while being Eerie-sistibly devilish! (carefully sharpening my fangs here). THAT is a delectable monster that I would love to knock on my door! 😉

    *boo* 👻 back atcha!

P.S.: I for one LOOOOOOVED your RA Pocket Shrine 227!

    Like

    • I’m usually not really into vampires (or vampire stories), but if RA played one, I’d definitely be on for it. I have only vague recollections of Lestat in that old 80s (?) film with Tom Cruise, but hey, any high-profile role for RA would make me happy.
Oooh, I just realised I left out the mini-boo shrine #226…

      • Best movie vampire ever: Klaus Kinski in Nosferatu the Vampyre, 1979, written and directed by Werner Herzog. Also recommended to anyone who needs to unsee Bruno Ganz as Hitler; check him out as a 1970s hottie in this movie. Includes an disgusting scene with free-roaming rats that a Dutch town, amazingly, apparently knowingly permitted (upon payment of fee from movie company). Or did I read that was the last time anyone trusted Herzog on location.

        • That’s a big classic movie! Not that I have ever seen it. I am such a scaredy cat, and just can’t deal with horror at all 😂. Klaus Kinski was a bit of a eccentric himself… I’ve seen interviews with him where he behaves really peculiarly.

  9. I LOVE it!

I have wicker pumpkins and a few glitter ceramic ones… somewhere. Also pumpkin lights. Wouldn’t know where to begin to look. Folks out here in the swamps (yes, I have moved to the swamps. 7 miles and I’m out of the bustling city – haha – to a dirt road across from a horse farm!) and it’s neighboring little town have REALLY decorated this year. I guess now that Covid restrictions are being rescinded in most places (not that we had a lot) people are going all out. I’m wondering if we’ll have trick or treaters… might need to pick up a little bit of candy!

We’ve not decorated. I’ve not found my front porch. I am going to decorate for Christmas. This house is built for it!

  10. I’m with you…Halloween is not a favorite of mine so no plans for today. Eerie-sistable in deed!! Pale Lucas North is Spook-alious and this RAps is spook-tabular . See puns are fun!! Once again you have surpassed yourself! I absolutely Love LN and would love to be the proud owner of this shrine.

  11. I am also not a big Halloween fan. So my answer to all your Halloween-questions is no. But your Halloween RAPS is very nice and funny, except spiders 😉 but they don’t really belong tot he shrine 😊. I admire you can do such nice things and decors.

  12. Great RAPS again, Guylty! I do quite like the puns. 🙂
No Halloween here either, it’s just not really a thing in The Netherlands.
I commented but you don’t need to include me in the raffle for this one, I think it will feel more at home with a goth/Halloween fan.

Halloween is a massive thing here in Ireland – of course, after all it originates from here. Yesterday evening there were continuous banger noises from 7 until 9 pm – even though fireworks are illegal in Ireland. I’m glad it’s over…

  13. Had a very quiet Halloween this year. I had no trick or treaters here (in fact none last year either) The latest thing of the last couple of years is having organized community events with treats and games and costume contests.
The shrine is boo-ti-ful! I love it. Lucas makes the perfect vampire with his dark hair and pale complexion. It really is a striking contrast with the blood spatters. It was a shame he wasn’t cast as Matthew Clairmont. He would have been fabulous. 🧛🏻‍♂️❤️

    • I imagine it must have been pretty quiet in most places. I don’t think there was a huge amount happening here, either.
Lucas really has that dark look down to a tee. RA would have been great as Clairmont. I had him in my mind’s eye when I read DoW

  14. Hi, Sonja. I love Halloween but sadly I had no kids this year. Granted I only put a wreath out and not my floating ghosts. I was afraid of falling off the ladder before my surgery this morning. Still a pity he wasn’t cast as Clairmont in The ADOW series, but Goode is doing a good job. Still, in the book, it will always be Armitage for me in that role.
It’s funny but I never knew other countries did the Halloween thing until a few years ago. Dias de los Muertos celebrations, All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Samhain. But didn’t realize people did the costumes and candy thing. Have other countries always done this or only recently?

    Like

    • Oh goodness, surgery? Hope everything went well and you are healing nicely. Good thing that you didn’t climb up any ladders!!!
I have to admit, even though I would’ve liked RA to play the vampire, and despite not seeing any of the show apart from trailers, I do think that Matthew Goode looks the part, too.
As for Halloween – Ireland has always done the Halloween thing, after all the whole thing originates here. In Germany it was never a thing when I was a child. But that is ages ago now, and things probably have changed. I have a feeling that Halloween is also happening there now, too.

      • Halloween and Trick or Treating is a big thing in German nowadays. Hordes of kids and teens roaming the streets. I feel very “get off my lawn” about it all. It’s got no basis in our culture. All Saints here is going to the cemetery decorated with lights, not skeletons and spiders and candy. \rant
